About Alec Atkin
Our family has owned this cabin for 6 years now. We primarily use it in the winter for XC skiing but due to busy summer schedules with our 3 children we are not able to find time for ourselves. We are in the Sacramento area and just a little over an hour to Serene Lakes.
Alec Atkin purchased this Cabin in 2010
Why Alec Atkin chose Serene Lakes
We are avid XC skiiers and bought our cabin due to its proximity to Royal Gorge. Outside of winter, we enjoy getting away from the hot temperatures of the Sacramento valley. We bought in Serene Lakes because it is one of the most family friendly areas. It harkens back to the 50's and 60's when kids could be kids and just play outdoors. There is a beach area that our kids spend hours in the water or just building sand castles. The nights are extremely quiet and you can see the Milky Way at night.
What makes this Cabin unique
Our cabin is just across the street from Serene Lakes. There is a view from downstairs and an even better one from the second floor large master bedroom. The street is level and, if you sit on the porch, people will say hello and maybe stop to talk with you. The cabin was built in the late 60s and is the old style "big beam baby" with its large beams visible on the first floor. The second floor has vaulted ceilings. Open the windows and a nice breeze will blow in.

Great Winter Get-Away
Really enjoyed visiting this house in Serene Lakes. Well-equipped with propane heaters and woodstove that cranks out heat & relaxation. Our family loved all the games, and appreciated the well-provisioned kitchen. The owner Alec was SO helpful, providing detailed info about navigating through the 15-foot snow drifts and giving info about the local sledding hill. House isn't new construction, and living area is on ground floor which means no natural light with the snow piled up outside, but we'd rent again anyway. Fabulous location next to lakes, would love to stay during summer!
Charming and well-equipped cabin, the 8 of us spent Xmas holiday and we had a great time. We loved the wood burning stove (sorry Alec we burned through the whole stack), and Alec had just installed 3 brand new propane heaters that made the cabin super cozy.
Heads up there is only one shower, the bathtub upstairs is very romantic but a bit impractical with 8 people trying to get ready at the same time. Other than that we had a great time!
Alec is a great host and we look forward to staying again.
Super cozy, pet-friendly cabin in a great location.
We had a great time, the cabin was just our speed! Alec the host was very responsive and helpful. Will definitely come again!
A great cabin!
We really enjoyed this property! Kitchen was well equipped, there were lots of games to play and there were very comfy bed linens. Owner was very responsive and provided helpful information about the cabin.
Kids’ First Trip to See Snow
Great cabin for my family of four — with two little ones under 6. Kitchen stocked with everything you need to make all the meals, and a wonderful fireplace for us to enjoy after a day of sledding outside. Lots of board games, which my children loved, and very spacious — we ended up not using an entire bedroom. Large dining table, enough for 10 people. Would love to bring the family back and make this an annual winter trip. Thanks for making my kids’ first experience with snow so warm and welcoming.
Lovely, clean, lots of fun games and well equipped kitchen, well stocked fire woods!
Owner is very thoughtful, provided clear instructions on the property. Well equipped kitchen, lots of spices, well stocked fire woods. Good location, great fire place, good quality down comforter with heating blanket. Big dinning table, lots lights, really everything you need will be there!
