It is unique in that it has a large family/extra living room downstairs making it perfect for a large family with "kids downstairs, adults upstairs," 4 couples or an executive retreat. It is a big 4-bedroom home located on one of the most sought after streets in Santa Cruz. From the spa to the fire pit to the outdoor shower to the beach cruisers, boogie boards and beach wagon, it is all set up for fun! Plus, spend the evenings cooking in a fully stocked awesome kitchen and then relaxing in front of a stunning new linear fireplace. This house is a great blend of functionality and nearly impeccable, sophisticated, modern luxury.
Enjoy new graywashed hardwood floors, comfortable hip furniture, a fantastic new kitchen and designer bathrooms. Sleep in new beds with fine linens (all 540 thread count) and enjoy the two gas fireplaces and two home theater systems. It is super clean and is full of fun amenities.
It is on a quiet street that is a short walk to the beach and 3 minutes by bike to Pleasure Point or the Yacht Harbor and a 12 minute bike or 5 minute drive to the Boardwalk or Capitola. Note that our street, 24th ave. has a great viewing bench at the end of the street, but no stairs down to the beach - so it stays uncrowded and kids can play on the street. It is a 1 min. 30 second walk to 23rd street to enter Santa Maria beach. (Note that due to recent flooding from our record breaking storm that you may need to walk to 22nd street until the overflow from the lagoon drys up.)
This had been a very popular and highest rated 5-star rental home that our large family had rented via VRBO. We had rented a number of beach houses in Santa Cruz, and this was easily the best. When it came on the market we were fortunate enough to buy it. We completely remodeled it with help from a professional designer - and wow - it turned out spectacular!
Kitchen - New and fully stocked with Sub Zero refrigerator, Bosch gas cooktop, large pantry, Keurig coffee maker, stainless oven and microwave. Included is a new set of pots and pans, knives, silverware, glassware, BBQ utensils, bowls, cutting boards, toaster, popcorn maker, and dishes. The cabinetry has dynamic colors, quartz countertops and a glass tile splash.
Living Room - New linear gas fireplace surrounded by stone and mahogany cabinets, 55" flat screen TV, Home theater system, Apple TV, DVD player, universal remote, large modern sectional couch and two reclining swivel chairs.
Dining room - New custom dining table and chairs with gorgeous ocean, mountain and sunset views.
Front deck - New Webber gas grill, dining table and swivel chairs for enjoying the view
Upstairs Master - New firm Cal King mattress with gel infused memory foam topper. Flat screen TV, two closets, stunning master bathroom with large shower, walnut cabinets and fantastic tile surrounding a floating mirror. There is a hair dryer, a makeup mirror and an iron & ironing board.

Upstairs guest bath - Gorgeous mahogany cabinets, exciting finishes and bathtub with rain shower.
Laundry room - Full sized new LG front load washer and dryer, laundry sink.
Downstairs King Room - New European Sleepworks Cal King Mattress with matching latex memory topper. Right side tuned plush, left side tuned firm. Large closet.
Downstairs Queen/Bunk room. One queen and three twins (one twin is a high-quality folding bed) in a large fun-shaped room with a large closet.
Downstairs living/family room - 55" flat screen TV, DVD player, Home theater system, Gas fireplace surrounded by custom cabinetry with built-in desk. Large doors lead to outdoor patio. Tile floors.
Downstairs Bathroom - large two-sink bathroom with a good-sized shower.
Back patio - New fire pit and gliding chairs, lawn and Hotsprings Spa, highlighted by a creative outdoor "surfboard shower."
Garage - Full garage with parking for one large and one small car. Included are 4+ new Electra cruiser bikes, a wagon for the beach, 6 beach chairs, sand toys, kids wetsuits, umbrellas and a 3-sided tent, beach BBQ gear, 5 boogie boards and more. Surfboards can be arranged.
Front - Parking for 4 cars in driveway plus one on street.
Free "blast" cable wifi, telephone landline with free domestic calling.
Keyless entry for front and back and garage doors with personalized code for security and ease of going to the beach, etc. without having to take keys. Great for kids!
The house is stocked with beach towels, shampoo, soaps, cleaning supplies - so you can travel light.
Please note that our county vacation rental permit allows for a 10 person occupancy limit with an additional 5 people allowed allowed as guests for a day/short term (non sleepover) visit. The county also enforces quiet time from10 PM till 8 am.
We love this area and particularly this street in Santa Cruz. This is one of the "banana belts" in Santa Cruz and it is often warm and clear here when it is cold and foggy on the West Shore or down towards Aptos. The dead end street is very quiet and kids often play out front. The neighbors are great and the bench at the end of the street is like "instant zen." We often see whales, dolphins, seals and otters from the bench. You can watch surfers and sailboats almost every day. It is a short walk or bike ride to world class surfing at Pleasure Point, 26th and 38th ave and the "Hook." Santa Maria beach is less than a 2 minute walk, and since there is no public parking, it is very uncrowded and seemingly super safe as a result. Sunny Cove is right nearby and it is the best body surfing/boogie boarding beach in Santa Cruz. There is a brand new library a short walk away that overlooks the lagoon. You can jump on the beach cruisers and be in Capitola, the Boardwalk, the Yacht Harbor/Crow's Nest, the 41st ave. shopping area (Mall, Whole foods, surf shops, coffee shops, theater, etc.) all within minutes - then return home and enjoy a stunning sunset, and a restful, quiet evening just minutes away from the "hubbub."
There are several great golf courses, all within a 10-12 minute drive. There is fishing on the beach at the bottom of our street, or you can fish from the Capitola or Municipal pier or go by charter or rental boat from the piers. Sunset Sailing excursions available at the yacht harbor. Monterey, Carmel, The 17 mile drive, Monterey Bay Aquarium are only 45 minute away. There is hiking a short drive away in the deep redwoods at Henry Cowell Redwoods, Big Basin, and the Forest of Nicene Marks Park in Aptos. The area offers many other activities from live theater to professional basketball to paddle boarding to great local wine tasting. There are "activities for everyone" or you can simply snuggle up in front of one of our fireplaces and enjoy listening to the waves break.

After renting vacation homes in Santa Cruz for many years, we finally decided to buy, design and create our dream beach house. We rented THIS house in 2013 and had a fantastic time. It was the best of several homes we had rented through VRBO. When it came on the market in 2014, we were really excited, and purchased it right away. We have since finished an extensive remodel and really love the way it turned out.

Very family friendly!
Beautiful home with all of the amenities. John was super easy to work with and the home has everything you could wish for. The house felt like home. The location is very convenient to so many activities. Beautiful views and an open kitchen got everyone involved. When the wind kicked up, we retired to the sheltered and sunny backyard. I hope we are lucky enough to return one day.
The PERFECT family getaway
We could not have asked for a better spot for our family vacation. We had folks in their 20s, 30s, 60s and toddlers and there was something for everyone. The house is close enough to enjoy the beach, the boardwalk, and walking paths - all with amenities nearby and cute surrounding towns to explore. John was super responsive and had thought of everything for the house we could have needed. The kitchen is fully stocked with gadgets and utensils, there are more than enough towels, the beach gear is top notch, and the backyard (hot tub, fire pit and outdoor shower) is so welcoming. If we have the chance to come back to Santa Cruz, we will definitely be staying here again. Thank you John!
Great house, easy to feel at home.
Just ended a great weekend at the house. We have stayed on this street for over a decade in other houses and enjoyed this new house as it was a true upgrade. Easy to get into and everything was ready. Lots of space to relax, large kitchen and dining area, hot tub was perfect in the evening, and I loved the use of the garage to store bikes, etc. Check out was a breeze.
Thanks for the great review and thanks for leaving our house in great condition! Thanks also for pointing out that our house is an "upgrade" from the typical beach house. Our guests often text us with a "wow" when they first arrive and are surprised at how amazing it is! And - yes our garage is super clean, stocked full of lots of beach gear and ready to hold one normal and one small car. We even provide garage door openers! (There is also room for up to 4 cars in the driveway.)
High school senior trip
We really enjoyed our stay. There was a group of 5 teenagers and they never got bored with the bikes, boogie-boards, and the beach. Would stay there again if we are ever in the area.
We really enjoyed hosting you and are delighted to hear that the teenagers had so much fun! One of the reasons we love our beach house is that there is so much to do right there! We provide cruiser bikes, boogie boards, several wetsuits, and lots of other beach gear. There is also a new surf shop just around the corner that offers comprehensive "learn to surf" packages and rentals for more experienced surfers.

This house is perfection!
The house is immaculate, clean and modernized. Certainly a little bit of luxury at the Beach. Beach house rentals can be shabby, so if you are looking for a top-notch luxury rental this is the place for you! Fits 10 very comfortably, and would be ideally suited to two families sharing as there are two bedrooms on each of the floors and two living rooms. Comfortable beds, clean pillows, and mattresses.
The house has everything you need for your stay, so no need to pack heavy. Beach towels, wagon, wetsuits, bikes, beach chairs, it's all covered. The kitchen is well stocked and spacious.
The lack of clutter and the great organization with labels and instructions made the vacation seamless! I'm a sucker for labels ;o)
The owner John was so understanding after my son accidentally broke a lamp in the house, and was very informative and easy to contact if needed.
Would certainly love to go back!

- Please check with us prior to booking a trip starting on Sunday, as we need to make a special request for housekeeping. - Our vacation rental permit allows for a 10-person maximum occupancy limit with an additional 5 people allowed allowed as guests for a day (non sleepover) visit. Unfortunately we can't grant exceptions. The County sheriff also strictly enforces excessive noise after 10 pm - so no large, loud parties are allowed.
