About Shelley Whisler
I am a single woman who has owned my home in Popotla, Playas de Rosarito, Baja California over 10 years now. I have decided to offer my wonderful beach home getaway to couples and families looking for some special time at the beach together so others may enjoy the area as much as I do. I am a native Californian currently sharing my time between my San Diego residence and beautiful Baja. I am retired from the technology field where I spent 25+ years. I am a grandmother of 3, enjoy performing in and attending the theater. I love concerts, outdoor festivals, reading, cooking, mosaic arts and jewelry making. I am a world traveler with 30 countries visited so far and dreams for many more.
Shelley Whisler purchased this Mobile Home in 2006
Why Shelley Whisler chose Rosarito
I fell in love with community, the home and the wonderful view and oh, so relaxing environment. It is so peaceful. In fact I have been told that the word "Popotla" means "peace" or "little peace" in the native Indian language of the area. My home is cozy and sweet and brings a lot of joy and happiness to myself and my guests. And a fabulous view! I love the location as we are just a 10 minute drive into Rosarito Beach but away from the crowds and traffic and noise in town. The best of both worlds! Our grounds are beautifully manicured and well maintained with a full gardening staff on-site. We also have a wonderful staff of guards who are friendly while taking their responsibilities seriously. An on-site management office keeps things running smoothly at the bar, restaurant and throughout the park.
What makes this Mobile Home unique
I have a $1,000,000 view. I don't just see water, but actually see the waves crashing on the black lava rock below and all framed through the lovely palm tree's in front. You can sit on my front deck or even just stay on the couch in the living room and take it all in. Close enough to see through transparent waves in the early evening. Many dolphin come very close in and linger in the front of the house where the kelp beds are to enjoy their dinner. We often see whales too during migration seasons in Fall and Spring. You can enjoy the view from many rooms in the house too. I also really love the fenced backyard especially in the summer when my grape arbor provides lot's of shade and you still get the ocean breezes. Lot's of room to barbecue or enjoy the lounge chair with your favorite book and beverage. I hand tiled the outdoor fireplace myself and it provides nice ambiance on a summer evening too.

Beautiful Views of the Ocean Day and Night
My partner and I had a wonderful stay at this home away from home. The two bedrooms, two bathrooms, are roomy and comfortable, not to mention squeaky clean. The Kitchen spacious, fully equipped also with views of the ocean. Living room, and dinning with peaceful setting. Could not say more about the views of the ocean from all three rooms, and a nice size front porch. Off street Parking. The security were on site 24/7 and courteous. The Restaurant with awesome views of the beach/ocean. What wonderful way to spend a vacation.
Thank you so much for staying with me. I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay and my home and our community. You were wonderful guests and I would be happy to welcome you back anytime. Cheers.
We really enjoyed sitting on the front porch watching the waves and the sunset. The home has a cute beach theme and the beds were very comfortable. Shelley was really easy to work with.
I can't thank Shelley enough for her hospitality. She was extremely accommodating, accepting our reservation request on such short notice. Her home was perfect for our long holiday weekend. The Popotla mobile home park is an excellent location - you have the private beach located directly below at the southern end of the park and at the northern end, you have the non-stop action of the fishing village (a must-visit). There is an onsite restaurant and bar, which we didn't try unfortunately, but the menu looked delicious and the prices were great. Next time, we will for sure try the Sunday Brunch Buffet for $15. The neighborhood is so friendly, while we sat out on the front porch enjoying the fabulous view, everyone that passed by was so nice. The house itself was just what we needed; clean, comfortable and convenient. The park is also extremely secured, which can be assuring for some. We visit the Rosarito area quite frequently and this is the most secured location to date. I look forward to staying at Shelley's again in the future as her place will definitely be at the top of our list for south of the border trips! Thank you again Shelley!!
Thank you Kris for the kind words. I am so glad you and your family enjoyed my home and our community. I enjoyed being your host. Please come again soon.
nice renter but horrible landlords
The home is in a community that is managed by very rude and dishonest individuals. I had no problems with the owner of the home but because it is a private community the people that are in charge gave me such hell that instead of staying 3 nights I cut my vacation short to 1 night. Nothing was the fault of the owner of the house, but the management of the property will make you regret you didn't rent directly from them and make your stay very uncomfortable.
Will not come back.
It was very unfortunate that there were so many misunderstandings and miscommunications. I did try to contact you many times that day as you know and was unsuccessful. I'm sure misunderstandings could have been resolved in a much better way. I have happily rented my home to hundreds of families over the past five years who have had wonderful vacations as the rest of the reviews can testify. I also have many repeat renters who not only enjoy my home but our peaceful community in general. I am sorry this was not your experience and I wish you well in your future travels.
Fun in the Sun
Stayed the month of February to get out of the snow in Big Bear. Everything was just as I hoped it would be. The weather was good, house was great, and all the people I talked to while walking my dog very friendly. Many asked when I would be back. I assured them next February and maybe sooner. Thank you Shelley.
Thank you so much for choosing my beach house for your winter sun and surf getaway. I am so happy to hear everything was satisfactory for your vacation. I look forward to your next visit down our way. Kind regards, Shelley
Exceeded Our Expectations!
Shelley's home (yes, a mobile home, but it felt like a house) exceeded our expectations. What a stunning view of the ocean from the comfortable front porch which graces nearly the length of the mobile home. The splash of subtle, but fun colors inside, made the home very cheerful. Everything is there. We didn't lack for anything. I was most amazed that the owner had everything spelled out for us on VRBO. We weren't left in the dark about anything, and had no need to contact the owner or the office.
My mom, sister, and I had a great mini-vacation. We shopped in Rosarito, north of the Rosarito Beach Hotel. You can eat lunch or dinner at the El Nido Restaurant, known for its garden-like setting and tender steak. It's located right on the free road. Their food is great, kinda' pricey, but you can park in front of the Restaurant, enjoy your margaritas, and then shop next door. Don't let the shop fronts fool you. They go way back, and there's plenty to see.
We ate one night at the Popotla Restaurant - beautiful view, great food, and friendly service.
All in all, the photos don't do this vacation home justice. The inside is perky and cute, but not so nice that it's stuffy. You can definitely tell it's been lived in - a real homey feel. One evening, we had friends over, and had plenty of room for 7 of us to play Yahtzee. Oh yes, and it's a gated community, so security in the park is very good, with security guards patrolling on bikes. Thanks Shelley; we will come again! (Please don't think this is an ad; I have never met Shelley)
Thank you so much for all of your kind words Deborah. I know anyone considering my home for their Baja vacation will find all of your comments helpful.
I do try to strike the right balance of nice amenities and the cozy, comfort of a home that is to be enjoyed and shared.
I'm so glad you all had a great stay and a relaxing and fun time. You were terrific guests and I would be happy to welcome you back any time.
There are great surf spots nearby including right in front of my home. There is horse back riding on the beach in front of the Rosarito Beach Hotel and I can arrange horseback riding further south in the La Mision area for both short and longer rides on the beach or in the hills. There are many festivals and art shows throughout the summer. The Guadalupe Valley wine country, just East of Ensenada, now boasts 100 wineries and many wonderful restaurants nestled among the vineyards. Places to visit are detailed in the Guidebook in my home. Our Popotla Fishing Village can be walked to up the beach and is interesting to watch what the fishermen bring in in their panga's and great fun to pick your fish off the boat and have it cleaned and cooked right on the beach.
