This beautiful home offers a low bank, making it perfect for families with young children or retirees. Swim or fish off the dock, make s'mores by the campfire, nap in the hammock, or relax in the screen porch. The cabin is located in the opening of a little bay, which is great for kayaking (we provide 2), canoeing, (we provide 1) bird watching and pan fishing. There is room for the whole family, with a large loft bedroom upstairs, 2 bedrooms and 1 bath on the main floor, plus another bedroom, bathroom & rec room in the basement. Birch Lake is connected to Big Chetac, which combined offers over 2,000 acres of great fishing, boating, restaurants & bars. Only 5 miles from Tagalong Golf Course and restaurant, 2 miles to the town of Birchwood.

About Eric & Lori Borg
We (Eric & Lori) purchased Lakeside Paradise while pregnant with our daughter, Ella. Eric has been coming to Birch Lake with his family since 1976. Lori grew up on a lake in northwestern Minnesota. Now with two small children, one in college, and our many activities, we do not get to the cabin as much as we would like. When we are at the cabin, we do not want to go anywhere else! We hope that you enjoy it as much as we do.

Why Eric & Lori Borg chose Birchwood
Location, location, location! The fact that ours is one of the few cabins on Birch Lake with a low bank to the water is really important to us. The cabin is at the end of a private road with very little traffic. We are in a bay which has little boat traffic as well. These factors make our cabin perfect for keeping children safe. Our cabin also is a wonderful blend of modern conveniences and up north privacy.

Overall, the house is nice
Although the house is big and near the lake, there are a few things we wish we knew before we rented.
We had 7 adults in our party, so we needed to use the bedroom in the basement. To say the basement is "finished" is a bit of a stretch. When you open the basement door, there is a definite musty smell. The sitting area downstairs is passable, but the sleeping area or "bedroom" has concrete walls that are covered by thin sheets. The poor soul who slept there said that every time a toilet is flushed upstairs, it was so loud it woke him up. I went down to listen and it is LOUD. It sounds like water is crashing down on you.
The kitchen is fairly well stocked however when we opened a lower cabinet to take out a toaster, there were crumbs all over the shelf.
The screened in porch is very nice, as well as the deck.
The fire pit is nice and big, but beware sitting on the rustic log benches. One tipped so badly that one of our party almost fell off. The chairs that are provided force you to sit all the way back, making it fine to look up at the stars, but not so much for looking at a fire in front of you. The volleyball net in the picture is not there, just a few poles with the net lying in a tangled mess on the ground. The frame of the hammock was there but the rest of it was in the basement.
We like to fish, so we had higher hopes for the lake. The water clarity is very low and green. We caught a small Northern and two 12 inch bass between 7 of us. The rest were tiny pan fish under the pier. A neighbor told us that there are big Northern in the lake eating all the decent fish. Don't know if that is true, but according to what we caught, it sounds believable. In our years of fishing trips, this is common. You really have to fish on the lake to find out how void of fish it is.
The rowboat had a small leak, but that did not create a problem.
When you leave, make sure that when cleaning, go over everything several times. I washed all our towels, and put them away, more than requested per the contract. I washed and put away all the dishes. My husband swept. And they did kindly mail a CD back to us that we left there, telling us they would take the postage out of our deposit. But they kept a portion of our deposit for "extra cleaning." All we can think is that we didn't bag all of our garbage. We threw some plastic containers and cardboard in the garbage can without bagging it.
Beautiful place, very clean. Owners were a text away from any questions we had. Can’t wait to come back!
Great location and lake!
My family and I spent the week here making meals together, playing games, and swimming in the lake! We ate almost every meal on the screened in porch and enjoyed the amazing views. The cottage was exactly like the pictures! So clean and neat and so much to do while you are here! We hope to return!
Our family really enjoyed this place and the owners were very gracious!
Lakeside Paradise is right!
We really enjoyed our stay at this rental. Listing description and photo very accurate. Everything was very clean, the beds comfortable. Owners were pleasant to deal with and quick to respond to question. One of the items that drew me to this place was the screened in porch and it didn't disappoint. The porch even had ceiling fans which helped on the hot humid days. Great fishing off the pier. We enjoyed the Pizza Den restaurant in town and also took the opportunity to rent a pontoon for the day from a Bay Vue resort on Big Chatec Lake. Highly recommend!
Katie, we are so glad that you enjoyed your week at our cabin! We appreciate the great review. (we love the screen porch, too!)
Thanks for being such great renters!
