About Yosemite Mountain Escapes

Cheryl grew up and raised her family in Mariposa, and is the proud mother of two and grandmother of 13 grandchildren. Most of her family resides in the Mariposa area. Cheryl is well known in the community and has worked for CAL FIRE for 20+ years. Chris has always had a knack for entertaining people and was a guide for Salmon and Steelhead fishing on California's most pristine rivers. As a guide his sole mission was to give his customers a once in a lifetime experience that they would remember forever. We are approaching the vacation rental business with the same goals. We want you to have everything you need, so you don't have to worry about the little things and can focus on your vacation itself. We will be here to help you with anything you need.

Yosemite Mountain Escapes purchased this lodge in 1995

Why Yosemite Mountain Escapes chose Yosemite Area

This beautiful property has been in our family for many years. We built The Whispering Pines House in 2001 so that we could be close to my Grandmother. We took care of her for 11 years before her Alzheimer’s got so severe that she needed more care than we could give her. She is now in a beautiful, quiet, private home with 4 other ladies that she has fun with and is able to receive the medical attention she requires. She is still a huge part of our family and we love her dearly. Now we are choosing to share our scenic home with others and provide them with a wonderful vacation spot in our beautiful country we are proud to call home.

What makes this lodge unique

Our property provides the peace and serenity of the mountains and we are thankful to call this our home. If you sit outside and just listen or look you will hear the birds singing and you might even see a deer, fox, turkey, or possibly a bear. Over the years we have seen them all. The town of Mariposa offers small town quaintness with its unique shops and local history. The surrounding areas, including Yosemite, offer many outdoor adventures and you will never get bored here if you enjoy the outdoors.

Loved our stay !

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for space and everything you'll need for your stay this house has it all!! It was a wonderful stay and we appreciated the owners attention to detail. It was our son's 16th birthday and we arrive and had a cake waiting for him. Also a beautiful fruit platter and wine to welcome us :-). That was extremely kind and thoughtful and a trip my son will never forget. It was a great location - we hiked Yosemite for two days and it took us about one hour to get to the valley floor. Also adorable town five minutes away with everything you'll need.

Perfectly amazing!

  • 5 of 5

What a peaceful, quiet and relaxing place to stay! This home is really beautiful, comfortable and cozy! It was just perfect for our family of 6! Chris was friendly, helpful and a wonderful host! (His taxidermy skills are out of this world as well!). The house amenities are a special bonus! Thank you so much for a wonderful stay! We will return one day! If Florida wasn't so far away it would be on a yearly basis! 😄?

Amazing

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful place, quiet, and peaceful. Far enough from town where you don't get the noise, but close enough to go get dinner. Very friendly host that went above and beyond to make sure our stay was great. Only an hour drive from doorstep to curry village in Yosemite (deep inside Yosemite), which goes quickly because of the beautiful drive along the way. Definitely a place I plan on staying again!

Great stay with an adventure to tell

  • 5 of 5

My two sons and I really enjoyed our stay in Chris' and Cheryl's house. There was a lot a room and the taxidermy animals and the two fish tanks make for a great decor. The kitchen is spacious with enough cookware and utensils to satisfy anyone. We saw jack rabbits in the yard and turkeys down the road. One of my sons and I swear we heard peacocks.

Now for the adventure part. We arrived on 14 July 2017. On the afternoon of 16 July about 13 miles northwest of us what became known as the Detwiler fire started. On 17 July ashes were falling in Mariposa. On 18 July Mariposa was evacuated. We were in Yosemite Valley when we heard of the evacuation. I called Chris and he told us to come back to the house. We did and after we got the car packed Chris came over and gave us his recommendation to stay based upon his knowledge of the fire's current position and past fires. The sky had actually cleared to the north. We were without power and Chris said he would get us a generator if the power was out too long. I cooked dinner on the gas grill. Later in the evening Chris came by and told us we needed to evacuate. He told us the best way out to the south and recommended we go to Fresno, which we did. We later headed to Monterey. I really appreciated Chris' attention to us during a time when his own house and his two vacation houses were under threat. He refunded me the cost of the four nights we couldn't stay there and arranged for some clothing we left to be shipped to us.

Chris' and Cheryl's attention to their house and their guests is unsurpassed. I would recommend staying with them to anyone.

Everything you need close to Yosemite.

  • 5 of 5

Chris and Cheryl were great to work with. At the time we were scheduled to arrive, the area was evacuated due to the Detwiler fire. Chris let us know as soon as we could get into the home safely and continue our vacation as planned despite his circumstances. The home is clean and very well equipped. There were even some extra touches such as fruit, local coffee beans, local wine, etc. Chris made sure that we were comfortable and showed us the features of the home personally, what a great host. The home is about a 45 min drive to the arch rock entrance of Yosemite. Mariposa is a quaint little town with a grocery store that offers everything you need to as well as many restraunts and shops located about 10 min away. We would highly recommend you choose this property when traveling to Yosemite.
