Overview

About the property

3 bedroom, 1 and half bath cottage with 100' of private beach

The Space

The newly updated, light and airy 1940s cottage nestles into a beautiful, accessible, lively Magnolia Beach. The cottage welcomes you with three bedrooms, two plush queen beds and one bunk room (a bunk bed and one pull-out), an open living area, a nicely-equipped kitchen, and a large dining table with expansive views, one and one-half bathrooms, fire pit, and outdoor seating areas and propane grill. Vashon's Burton Beach Cottage feels like a world away with its serene beach, comfortable and clean accommodations, and sweeping views gorgeous--interesting in all seasons.

Guest Access

This is a private home with over 100 feet of private beach easily accessible in what used to be a brickyard's boat ramp. We'll leave the key for you--step in, kick off your shoes, and enjoy.

Interaction with Guests

My name is Tiffany and I am the cottage caretaker and manager. I live just a few minutes away, and am almost always available and happy to answer questions or help in whatever ways I can. Once your reservation is confirmed, I offer my phone/text information so that you can easily reach me at any time before or during your stay. I adore the cottage and our guests and I hope you love the island and the cottage as much as I do!

The Neighborhood

Vashon is a very special place that has so much to offer--beaches, water, rural vistas, hiking, biking, farm stands, artists' studios, live music, and fresh air. The homes near the cottage on Magnolia Beach are a mix of full and part-time, friendly residents, along with an occasional renter.

Getting Around

The 118 bus does go right by 24410 (check the King County Metro schedule). The bus will stop wherever someone is waiting (don't need to be at a stop). There is no taxi service on island, but supposedly Uber was going to give a go here on Friday and Saturday nights. You can also bike, but Vashon is not flat, at all (carved by glaciers many, many years ago). The marina is about a mile away, so you could potentially get a spot there and walk down. Burton, with a small store and coffee shop, is 1 mile away. Center is about 4 miles away. Uptown, with the major shopping, is about 5 miles north.

Other Things to Note

Very few waterfront homes on Vashon are without many steps in or to the beach. The cottage's property is level, with only one step up to the exterior door, and one step within the home. The beach is accessible via a ramp.

Getting to Vashon requires a ferry ride. A mid-sized car and its driver cost about $23. A passenger in the vehicle is $5.20, or $2.60 for a child or senior. You only pay to get onto Vashon, it is free to leave.

Some house rules:

This is a quiet island and area. We do have neighbors nearby, so ask that you observe a quiet hours from 10pm-8am. The main renters must be a minimum age 25 years old.

Please bring slippers/socks and remove your shoes when possible. Sand and salt are everywhere and do a number on floors!

This house is not child-proofed and has open access to the beach and road. This home requires constant supervision of all young children.

Water toys: Feel free to bring your own that can be walked down the ramp to the beach. The water at high tide is often a few steps away while low tide can expose a hundred feet of tidal flats. There is a canoe and life jackets on the property for your use, but you assume the risk. Know the water! Renter assumes the full liability of loss or injury during use. The Sound waters are cold year-round, and wind can come up quickly.

There is a fire pit and propane grill available during your stay. If there is a burn ban, please abstain from building a bonfire--there is a $1000 fine for air quality that you would be responsible for paying. Please look up the Vashon fire department website or inquire with Tiffany if in doubt!

We have a sensitive, fully-functioning septic system. Nothing but human waste and TP can be flushed. Do not flush wipes of any form, or any type of feminine products. Renters will be responsible to any damage to the septic system or plumbing.

You assume all liability, risk and responsibility for any accidents or injuries to yourself or others in your party, regardless of cause, that may occur while you are on our property as part of your booking the cottage.

We leave a booklet with additional information on the table upon your arrival. Please take a look and notice the checkout instructions on the last page. We ask that you leave the cottage in similar condition that you found it. Enjoy, but please take kind care of our special place.

Why Tiffany Blasingim chose Vashon Island

The house is recently updated and has everything you need for a visit. It's easily accessible (with only one step) and has an amazing, alive beach. We hope you'll love it too!

What makes this cottage unique

There aren't may properties that have this much accessible beach. Vashon is a big hill, but this property allows you to drive right in with a few short steps to you the front door!

The birds put on a show all day. Whether it's the eagles scouting for breakfast, or the herons wading in to wait patiently, or the gulls and crows clamming, to the harbor seals making their home Outer Quartermaster Harbor. It's all here. Just sit and enjoy!

Guestbook comments from the owner

This family stayed at our cottage for two nights. There were wonderful guests! They stopped by to purchase a dozen eggs from our girls, left the cottage tidy with the beds stripped down (thank you!), and were great communicators. We were happy to have them as guests, and know they'll find their way to Vashon again.

The weather was rainy but cottage was fantastic. Doesn’t matter the weather, this place is great for indoor and outdoor relaxation and fun. Canoe, fireplace, games, full kitchen, cozy blankets.

Comfortable cottage and relaxing location

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful cottage! It is beautifully decorated with artwork and décor that fits perfectly in a beach cottage and the beds were very comfortable! The kitchen has everything we needed and lots of beach towels. There was an awesome fire pit with Adirondack chairs around it. During low tide we walked a mile down the beach and at high tide we launched the canoe and paddled around the bay. This is a very relaxing place to stay, we'll be back. Thanks!

Wonderful family getaway!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is lovely: well-stocked, nice finishes, comfortable with lots of space to play outside for adults and kids. We had a wonderful weekend, despite the 90 degree heat. The manager brought us extra fans and we all took a dip in the sound to cool off (to our surprise, with jellyfish!). The home is right off a busy street, but the property feels surprisingly quiet and private because of the orientation of the home and windows. We weren't even aware of the traffic. I highly recommend this place!

We came for a long weekend with a group of friends, and loved this little cottage by the water! It has all the necessary amenities (including AMAZING towels), and is a perfect location to go into town, or stay a bit tucked away. Such a gem!

Vashon is a gorgeous treasure of an island nestled between Seattle and Tacoma and accessible by ferry (drive-on) only. The Island's beauty and rural ties make it easy to relax, take long bike rides or hikes, or just sit by the beach. Vashon's Burton Beach Cottage is located just 1 miles south of the Burton 4-way stop, where Sandy's old-time convenience store and the Burton Coffee Stand are located. A few more miles north is the Island Roasterie, and a few more miles north is Uptown where art, music and restaurants, bars and groceries are available.
