2 bedroom, 1 bath simple cabin on the water - get away from it all!
About Margie Cochran
We own several properties in the area and this cabin is one of our favorites. We have lived in the Adirondacks since 1991 but have been part-time residents since the 1960s. We even attended the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid! We can offer suggestions for activities unless you simply want to rest and relax in a cabin.
Margie Cochran purchased this Cabin in 1991
Why Margie Cochran chose Saranac Lake
This is the most scenic area in the east! It is an easy place to rest, relax and enjoy life at a slower pace. Kiwassa Lake is an idyllic and quiet lake and most guests return year after year to get away from the hustle and bustle of a faster pace. The cabin offers a wonderful deck with seating that allows guests to put their feet up, read a book and soak up the view of the lake. Often guests will take in a sighting of our lake loon and its beautiful calls. Other guests have said they have seen eagles, deer, fish jumping, wild types of birds, etc…
What makes this Cabin unique
Our property is a dream come true. While there , guests enjoy bird watching, reading and traveling by boat to the nearby Village of Saranac Lake. Often guests will take in a sighting of the lake's loon and its beautiful calls. Other guests have said they have seen eagles, deer, fish jumping, wild types of birds, etc…
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
A quintessential Adirondack vacation spot
A quintessential Adirondack vacation spot. A cozy cabin surrounded by a deep dark forest of Hemlock, Cedar and Birch trees right on the water. Great location with close access to restaurants in Saranac Lake and Lake Placid.
Great lake, friendly staff - NO Outside FIRES
Firstly, the kids had a blast! And that is really what it is all about. The cabin was great, if I were to do it again I'd be sure to pack matttress pads and a fan. Otherwise you have everything you need. Bringing/renting a boat is a must! Fishing was amazing (nothing big) the kids caught a fish every time they cast - by the dozen!
Only downside was NO outside fires...which is a bit of a bummer, because sitting outside around a fire would make it perfect!
There is no outside lighting- so if you sit outside you’ll need a lantern.
I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the bathroom- the water pressure was great and we always had hot water.
Overall, great place.
Glad the kids enjoyed their camping adventure! Sorry we cannot allow outdoor fires due to insurance and especially our woodsy property. Charcoal grills are provided for your smore making!
We have found that outside lights attract bugs so have opted for the use of lanterns and/or flashlights for minimal night time use.
Fans and mattress pads are both provided and am sorry you didn't let us know there was none in your cabin.
A real sweet taste of the Adirondacks
The hosts were friendly, the cabin clean and the setting beautiful - what more could you ask for? We were in the area for a weekend of mountain climbing and boy did we appreciate a hot shower at the end of the day! (Not to mention a stove and a fridge.) The nice thing about it was we had those creature comforts but didn't have to sacrifice the "feel" of camping. We could hear the loons from the deck and the mornings on the dock were beautiful and peaceful. The nights were dark and quiet - the way they are supposed to be! If you're looking for a great place for a family getaway, you have found it.
Up for an Adirondack Adventure?
After, during or apart from your stay, take a canoe/camping trip. Park your car at the cabin property and transportation will be arranged for you, your gear, including canoe/kayak, at Lower or Middle Saranac Lake where camping is available on an Adirondack island. At that point, your adventure will begin! Navigate your way back to Kiwassa Lake through the Lower Saranac Lake locks including, if you desire, a night camping during your trek back. Camping will need to be arranged by you but if you are interested, we can direct you to the reservation site.
What to bring
The property is amidst 20+ wooded Adirondack acres. It is wise to bring flashlights and sneakers as the path to the cabin is naturally wooded. Other items: binoculars for the beautiful scenery, hiking/boating gear, food, linens (except pillows), charcoal if you plan to grill, games or books for entertainment (no TVs).
Internet and Cell phones
Due to the Adirondack wooded preserve, Internet and cell phones may not be accessible at your cabin. However, the nearby property and greens are WiFi compatible. Feel free to bring your laptop and set up on the porch (or on a cozy Adirondack chair on the main lawn area).
The property is located on Lake Kiwassa Kiwassa Outlet, 3 miles by paved road from the Village of Saranac Lake, which has supermarkets, restaurants, sporting goods stores, Adirondack gift shops, taxis, churches, garages, banks, golf courses, tennis, basketball courts, hiking trails, and Laundromats.
From the property you are able to travel by boat, to the Village of Saranac Lake. You may also enjoy a waterway trip 40 miles through scenic Adirondack lakes, ponds, rivers, streams, and go through State locks into the Adirondack State Preserve. Adirondack lake stream fishing for trout, bass, perch, northern pike, whitefish and panfish is available as well.
The Other Stuff
Not far away are the Adirondack Mountain attractions such as Whiteface Mountain and chairlift, the North Pole, Great Escape Adventure Park, Ausable Chasm, Adirondack Museum, the Olympic Center and the Lake Placid Village, Six Nations Indian Museum and the N.Y. State Fish Hatchery.
