  • 5 of 5

The space is fun and functional with enough privacy for three couples. The photos of the lower level don't show how spacious it is

Delightful alternative for Business and Personal travel!

  • 5 of 5

Delightful, peaceful stay in the garden (street level) flat. Location was ideal! 2 blocks from Amtrak's Back Bay station AND the Subway, which made getting there easy and getting around all of Boston easy. Nearby restaurants and shops are filled with friendly helpful people who have been live in the community for a long time. Unit itself was very comfortable. It is two floors, with a fairly narrow winding staircase, but there is a bathroom and small kitchenette on the main (street) level. Definitely enjoyed the feeling of staying in a traditional brownstone flat! Plenty of personal space, room (and doors) to support 6 people. Wifi worked perfectly as did the TVs and appliances.

Owner was very thoughtful, helpful and kind!

Only stayed two nights - was a last minute alternative, given there were no hotel rooms to be had, but I will definitely be back! One of my favorites!

Fine, once we adjusted our expectations

  • 3 of 5

Let me first say that we really liked the location of this unit. It is in a quiet residential area and street noise was never an issue. It is within a 10 minute walk of some prime dining and shopping areas. It's also close to a couple T stops, which made getting around the City very easy.

The unit itself is also comfortable enough, and we enjoyed our stay once we adjusted our expectations. The place is a bit like a basement apartment with a walk-out garden. Street level has 2 bedrooms and a full bath. The main living area, the kitchen and the 3rd bed are all in the lower lever, and they are all in one room. A curtain is the only divider of the lower level, so anyone sleeping in that bed will have kitchen noise to deal with. Also, contrary to the VRBO description, there is no 2-twin/King bed. All 3 beds are queens. There are air mattresses available for additional sleeping.

Another adjustment we needed to make was the fact that because of the age of the unit (and its electrical wiring) we were constantly having to reset circuit breakers (e.g. if we ran the dishwasher and microwave at the same time, or toaster and dryer, etc.). This was not a huge deal, but a bit of an inconvenience.

As stated, the unit is comfortable enough and in a great location. You just need to know what to expect going in.

Disappointed with owner, place was fine

  • 1 of 5

I have rented many, many VRBO locations over the past 5 years in both Europe and the USA. Ingrid's auto email said she would send detail instructions to us before our stay. We never received them so 4 hours prior to our arrival we texted, email and call Ingrid with no response. We used the VRBO locator to find the vicinity but her exact address was not in the system so it gave us 81-87 address which includes 4 apartment buildings each with about 4-6 apartments. So, we sat there for 45 minutes in a hot car waiting for help. I finally sent my daughter out and said just check the mailboxes and see if you can find anything. On the very last building, a gentleman came out and said "are you looking for Ingrid's place". I jumped out of the car and said "Yes!". He said "she left you a note on the door, the entrance is under the stairs here." How are we supposed to see a small sticky note on a door hidden under the stairs (this is a walk out basement apt) I said "where is Ingrid, we have been calling her." He said "She is in class but is on her way". Just as we were walking in, Ingrid arrived. I said Ingrid we have been trying to contact you. She was very dismissive, said she left a note, and did not apologize or anything. She just said have a good stay and walked into her apt upstairs. I thought this was just bad luck. But to top this off..... on our last day (we rented for 3 nights), she knocked on our door at 950am and said "garbage has to be out on the street in 10 minutes and you need to be out at 11am or pay more". Again, you couldn't tell us the night before. Text me????.... Then at 10:50am, she walked right in to see my mother-in-law changing clothes and said "you are not out yet". I have NEVER written a poor review. This lady is something. Never did she say "sorry" or "I am having a bad week", or anything most people would say. The apt was fine. The location is great. I don't expect to become friends with the owners we rent from but I do expect them to be responsive and respectful and not just demanding and act like we are incompetent or a burden to them. We paid a good amount of money for our stay.
