Overview

About the property

4 Bedroom, 3 1/2 Bathroom Home On the Lake, Only 100 Feet to the Lake

Trees and water surround this light-filled lake home. The house is close to the lake and we always have deep water at the dock. If it's a family get-together you're looking for, this home is spacious enough to sleep eight people comfortably. The house itself is set as close to the lake as possible and offers complete privacy from the quiet, cul-de-sac road. This is truly a hidden retreat for you and your loved ones.

In addition to offering a master suite on the main level, the home has a half bath on the main level, with two bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs. In the basement is a rec room area with wet bar, another full-size bathroom, and a large bedroom. The open kitchen overlooks the eating area and family room. There's wi-fi, a big screen TV with DirecTV in the main living area, and another large TV in the master bedroom.

Our screened in porch is great for bug-free relaxing with your morning coffee or evening drinks. In the fall you can watch football all weekend long and gather everyone around the wood-burning fireplace.

The extra-wide deck spans the full width of the house, and the deck stairs take you to a path that leads to the lake. From the deck you can grill your meals overlooking the water. (but if you'd rather not cook, there are still four casual restaurants within a few miles of the house.)

The house overlooks an extra-large cove, and the land on the other side is undeveloped, so from the house or the dock, all you can see is blue water and foliage. In the cove, there's room enough to water-tube, knee-board, and water-ski. The water is 30+ feet deep out there!

The dock has a covered open slip for your boat. It also includes a swim platform, dock light, 2 power outlets, and a jet ski float dock if you decided to bring your jet ski or rent one. Also, enjoy paddling around with the canoe at the dock.

Harbor Light Marina is a 5 minutes away by boat and 10 minutes by car. Boat rentals are available at the marina.

*100 feet away from deep water.

**Covered boat slip with power

About Todd Stiff

Although we bought the lake lot in 1998, we didn't start building on it until August of 2014. The home was completed in February 2015.

Todd Stiff purchased this house in 2015

Why Todd Stiff chose Fair Play

This lake home is close to the water and surrounded by trees. Lake Hartwell is a lot more laid back compare to other lakes. The area where our home is located is extremely quiet with little traffic and/or road noise. We have added a newly finished basement to the home, which includes another bedroom, bathroom, and rec room!

What makes this house unique

Very close to us are a few restaurants that we often frequent: Palmettos Pizza & Subs, The Spotted Pig (BBQ), and Anelo Grill (Outdoor gourmet hamburgers). The liquor store is next to Palmetto Pizza & Subs. In the same general area you can find Dollar General (for those "I forgot" items) and an Exxon gas station. If you want more restaurant selections, we recommend driving into Anderson, SC. You'll find all the commercial chain restaurants there. If you drive 30 minutes into Georgia, you will find the outlet malls of Commerce.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much for letting us stay at your home. Your house is so beautiful and the lake was awesome. We had a really great time in SC.

We did a little sight seeing...Chattooga Belle Farm, Issaquenna Falls, Stumphouse Tunnel and some of the scenic highways.

The Spotted Pig and Puerto Nuevo were spot on really good food.

We definitely relaxed on the deck and enjoyed the views. We did some fishing off the dock and used the canoe a few times.

My best friend has bragging rights, for the first person ever to catch a walleye on Captain Jacks boat. My brother has bragging rights for the biggest bass, a whopper at 5 lbs and I have bragging rights for catching the most fish (and ping pong champ).

All 5 of us caught fish and we hooked a couple of gar on our fishing trip with Captain Jack.

Again we can't thank you enough for sharing your home with us.

Awesome house! Wonderful get-away!

  • 5 of 5

This home is clean, bright... and beautiful! The main floor has an open floor plan with huge windows and tall ceilings -- so when you are cooking or lounging you can still see out to the sparkling water. Lots of room on the spacious deck! I'm a kitchen/interior designer, and picky -- this home was perfect! Screen porch a bonus if the weather turns. We stayed in early April, so no bugs or heat -- glorious! We actually used the fire place on a few of the colder evenings -- wood burning with stacked stone -- so nice. . The house has Direct TV, a pool table that flips over to enjoy air hockey, and a ping pong table. We had no issues with internet -- maybe a little slow -- but no big deal. AND GREAT CELL SERVICE! We have Verizon and had NO ISSUE! If you are seeking a beautiful, spacious lake home to rent with family or friends, then look no further! I think one of the other reviews mentioned the steepness of both the driveway and the path down to the dock -- and yes, they are steep, but it seems like almost all of the homes in this area have this same issue. We rented a pontoon boat to explore Lake Hartwell, and saw that most of the homes we viewed from the lake had much steeper and longer climbs. Also, the home is nestled into a nice, quiet cove (no crazy jet skiers tearing through!) There is a well appointed Dollar General, ABC (liquor and wine), pizza (no delivery), and BBQ place right up the road. We did go to Lavonia (maybe 15 min max) to the IGA (grocery store) a few times. Todd was wonderful in communicating with us -- NO COMPLAINTS! My only suggestions -- and these are PETTY!

1. Owners supply beautiful white turkish towels -- maybe add/supply some "brown" washcloths and handtowels for dirty kids/makeup?

2. Ax for firewood?

3. Outdoor table for deck? -- we brought a folding table for dining alfresco

4. More pillows/pillow cases?

5. More cleaning supplies/vacuum? LOL...Only for those of us who are clean freaks and respect this beautiful home!

6. Map of Lake Hartwell

Again -- those are petty! Thanks Todd so much! WE LOVED IT!

Owner's Response: Ashley - Thank you for writing such a detailed review to let people know about our Hidden Retreat lake house. We will look into purchasing a deck table and chairs; there's certainly enough room since the deck goes across the width of the house! It's funny you mentioned that about the white towels. We used to have brown and also gray towels, but the maid that we use suggested we switch to white because she can bleach them. But I still have the old ones, so maybe I'll put some back! We also love how quiet our cove is, and we do hope you return soon!

Perfect Family Gathering Spot

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful home with gorgeous lake view and easy access. This part of the lake felt so private with only the birds to listen to. Our young adult kids enjoyed the canoe during the day. At night, the pool table and ping pong table brought lots of fun. Plenty of room for everyone to be together comfortably. We hope to stay here again!

Very nice lakehouse

  • 5 of 5

Plenty of room in this lakehouse for several people. The weather was cold so unable to enjoy outside activities, but did have a nice fire inside. All of the kitchen items were available even though we ate out most of the time. I can see this being a very nice place in the summer for families to enjoy. Todd was very accommodating allowing us to come a tad earlier than scheduled. The only item I would change is additional tv’s in the upstairs bedroom or basement bedroom since no one has similar taste in tv programs.

"2018 Bassmaster Classic" fans..great long weekend stay, just far enough from the hustle and bustle!

  • 5 of 5

The house itself was beautiful! Very clean airy and open..morning views were Amazing and having the screened in porch was very nice especially when it rained. My husband has a bass boat and was able to unload and load it at the landing just down the road with no problem and even left it under the covered dock during the night with no worries. The ONLY downfall is the steep driveway and having to manuver the boat trailer in (would have been nice to have an extra concrete slab off to the side for it at the top). The closest town wasn't far At All (within approx 10 mins) which made it easy to make a food run when we didn't want to cook! The owner also provided a kayak and canoe with paddles And lifejackets which made is so much better knowing we didn't have to bring all of that ourselves but could still enjoy it! Overall our stay was Great and we would definitely consider staying in the future!

Very clean and comfortable. Easy in and out and quick return of deposit. The owner gives all detail needed in a timely fashion. The driveway is a little steep but very workable.
