The good bits… Great location for us, very quiet and rural location. The area is safe and JR's (caretaker) house is just outside the entry gate. The kitchen is good, well stocked with cooking pots, plates and cutlery. The 2 tv's have good cable but a snowy picture. The outside areas are good. I spent many hours on the deck and the viewing deck is a great idea with fantastic views (as the photos). Loon is about 6km from the house. It has a small market, a small supermarket and a few small shops. I liked Loon you can get most of what you will need there and the people are friendly and helpful and its a safe place for tourists. Tagbilaran is 25km away and the airport is about a hours drive away on Panglao island. (P1500 for a taxi).
The not so good bits..... On arrival Arlene was not there to meet us, JR the caretaker let us in and showed us around, which was ok. The first impression was that the place was dirty. Mylen my partner (a Philippino) was cleaning the kitchen within 5 minutes because there was rat poo on the counters. She washed all the plates, pots and pans and all the worktops. While she was cleaning I checked out the property. It is in need of some TLC, sticking sliding doors, the bath was out of order for months. There is aircon in 3 of the bedrooms 2 of which worked. The house was hot ( I was there in the summer time) especially the kitchen area which only has 2 ceiling fans. There is a lack of furniture, it reminded me of student accommodation. Just the ground floor bedroom (next to the kitchen) had a furniture, a bed, a futon couch and a tv stand. the other rooms had just a bed. Only 1 room in the house has curtains so be ready to wake up at daybreak. The concrete floors had a varnish which was pealing off which was sharp so no bare feet or maybe a rug or two would help.
Now the bad bits.... The beds... I took the sheets off the beds, (Its just a thing I like to do) The mattress protectors were heavy soiled with urine and blood stains. The mattresses are just a slab of foam so I guess were contaminated too? It was pretty bad.. Arlene (when she finally turned up) changed the mattress protector on one bed that night but we didn't use the beds for the 2 weeks we were there, we slept on the futon on the floor instead... The internet is poor 5-10 meg and a lot of the time no connection..
If you are going there make sure you have transport from day 1, you will need it. Make sure you bring food, drink and every thing else you need
One would not typically say Go Green if they're a diehard fan of University of Michigan but this is an exception. Envinromentally conscious and an ideal place to restore, rejuvenate that is peaceful and serene. If you are looking for privacy and safety away from the hustle and bustle of congested touristy spots and would rather blend with the locals then this is the place to be. Viewing deck offers close proximity to nature, ebb and flow of the tides, various bird species and gorgeous sunsets as well as stargazing. Local fishermen comes back to shore around 8 am with fresh catch if you are looking for sea to table meal. Otherwise a chef can be arranged to cook meals for you. Arlene can arrange transportation in advance if you need one. Otherwise public transportation is about 300 meters to the main highway. Public market with fresh produce is clean and cheap about 7 kilometers away. Huge kitchen and eating area was a great place to commune with family and guests as we prepped and ate our meals. Nice and clean bedrooms and restrooms. JR and An-an, the caretakers were very helpful.
Thank you so much for your kind words Ma’am Mary. We really appreciate you taking the time out to share your experience with us and we agree. We count ourselves lucky for guest like you. We look forward to welcoming you again in the future!
A modern luxurious house blending wood and polished concrete floors. Set in a picturesque village on the SouthWest Coast of Bohol. We are 30-minutes from Tagbilaran and 45 Minutes drive from Panglao. We are directly off the main road of Bohol. We offer other services such as catering and local rate taxis and van hire (just ask Arlene our manager).
If you choose to book with us, you have free reign of the house and garden (lots to do), and we encourage you to explore our rocky beach, the Punta Cruz tower, sites and characters in this rural fishing community.
Our house does not take too much from the planet; We use recycled water in our gardens, we treat our solid and liquid wastes, grow our own produce and produce solar water and electricity from our roof.
If this sounds like your home away from home, we look forward to welcoming you home to our Green House by the side of the Blue Ocean where the sunset always sets over the sea all year round.
