House, 4 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 5.5 Baths, (Sleeps 8-12)
Casa Mono Congo is a handicapped accessible, green-powered, modern 4-bedroom, 5.5 bathroom 3,000 square foot vacation home built with the Costa Rican wildlife AND you in mind. Our home is nestled in the jungle with visits from three types of monkeys, sloths, lizards, iguanas, toucans & numerous varieties of birds, butterflies and other exotic wildlife. The howler monkeys sleep in the trees above our home. The white-face monkeys & squirrel monkeys visit our terraces almost every day!
To enjoy our ecological paradise, we have built our home with bi-functional renewable energy from wind and sun. Solar panels generate electricity in the daytime and a wind-generator generates electricity from the ocean breezes. We are also connected to the local electric company so when we produce more electricity than we use, we send it back to the grid and when there is little sun and no wind we use electricity stored in our batteries or from the grid (most of Costa Rica's energy is produced from hydro-generators.)
When you stay in our home you will have all of the comforts of your home. Our home offers 3 levels of living space. The common areas include a social area with a 42-inch plasma flat screen television and a dining area that seats 8 people comfortably. The 3rd floor includes a covered terrace with bar area that includes a mini-fridge and ice machine. The fully equipped kitchen has top of the line stainless steel appliances, granite countertops and an island breakfast bar. Amenities include a full-size refrigerator, icemaker, dishwasher, oven, microwave, stovetop, coffee maker & grinder, blender juicer, toaster, dinnerware and utensils. Everything you need to prepare meals or be served meals by one of our outstanding chefs/cooks.
Our home has 4 bedrooms each with a Swiss Comfort Sleep System euro-king bed using NASA technology mattresses. These beds are electronically adjustable to fit the individual sleeper. Each bedroom also has a walk-in closet, bathroom, outdoor balcony and a flat screen LCD television. Our home also has 2 sofas that convert to large twin+ beds (sleeping 1 adult or 2 small children) and we also will provide an additional bed for the master bedroom suite if the number of guests is 11-12. The maximum number of guests allowed is 12.
The main floor terrace includes a 27' x 9' pool and room to relax in the sun or shade. You will be hidden away in our lushly landscaped property and enjoy total privacy as you listen to the Pacific Ocean and stargaze while you relax. Use the BBQ gas grill to prepare the fish you caught while deep-sea fishing earlier in the day.
The temperatures are generally in the 80s F during the day and 70F at night, but air conditioning is available in the bedrooms if you feel the need to use it. Local telephone service and WiFi are available for our guests at no additional charge.
Daily maid service (Mon-Sat) is provided and a multi-lingual house manager is available to welcome you, assist you with tour planning or meet any of your vacation needs. A washer and dryer are on site, and the maid will do your laundry if you ask for an extra fee.
Casa Mono Congo is located on a private side road but near restaurants, beautiful beaches, shopping and nightlife. When you schedule tours, they will deliver you to and from our home. If you rent a vehicle, parking is provided. Taxis and buses are abundant on the main road, if you decide not to rent a vehicle.
Manuel Antonio is a 3 hour drive through mountains and along coastline from San Jose. SANSA offers several flights daily from San Jose to Quepos, 20 minutes by air.
Casa Mono Congo is the perfect Costa Rican getaway.
For larger groups of 12-21, Casa Mono Congo may also be rented in combination with our other vacation rental home Casa Mono Titi. See VRBO listing #6869 for additional details regarding Casa Mono Titi. We are the owners of these 2 homes and we are not a 'here today, gone tomorrow' management company.

About Terry Childers
Map is best viewed using Satellite option. Our home is 300 meters off the main road and roughly 1600 meters (1 mile) from the beach 'as the toucan flies'. Prior to living in Costa Rica, we lived in Chicago and owned a residential rental property business for 12 years. Suffering through many Chicago winters, it was an easy transition from the residential rental business up North to vacation rentals in Costa Rica. We built a home near Puriscal in the mountains of Costa Rica in 2006 and sold our final property in Chicago in 2007 completing our permanent move here. Although, we live in the mountains about 1 hour from San Jose, we visit our beach homes in Manuel Antonio when they are available to us. We are actively involved in the communities of Manuel Antonio and Puriscal. We sponsored the purchase and installation of a 10-computer lab for the local elementary school in Piedades. We are currently providing full university scholastic scholarships to 5 local neighborhood youth. We have sponsored several local football teams with uniforms. We are active members of several ecological conservation groups. We love Costa Rica and believe in giving back as much or more than we receive from living in our new adopted country.
Terry Childers purchased this House in 2005
Why Terry Childers chose Manuel Antonio
We chose Manuel Antonio because it provides more flora & fauna diversity than any other location in Costa Rica. The climate in Manuel Antonio is near perfection no matter what time of year you visit. Even in the driest month of April, the flora is green and fresh, unlike to the northwest area of the country. Guests comment that they see more wildlife from our terraces than from any other location during their vacations. Everyone wants to return and over 30% of our guests DO RETURN & they are our best advertisers.
What makes this House unique
Like many homes in Manuel Antonio, our homes sit on the hillside between Quepos and Manuel Antonio National Park, overlooking the jungle and Pacific Ocean. However, unlike most other homes, we are on the very edge of the unspoiled jungle (see map) and your view has no other homes, roads, electrical lines or other obstacles to distract you. The monkeys, sloth & birds come right to our terraces & trees. The photo opportunities and memories are incomparable. We hope you select one or both of our homes for your stay and have the experience we have had that led us to move to Costa Rica.

Everything we hoped for and more
Vacationed for a week with family staying in Casa Mono Congo. The house was everything and more. The view from all 5 balconies had amazing view of the ocean and the location was very private. We had daily visits from all 3species of monkeys (watch your stuff around the white face ones) . The house manager, Michael, was amazing helping us plan all our excursions (recommend the ziplining with El Santuario, the catermeran sunset cruise, and the guided tour of the Manuel Antonio State Park) along with recommendations to some of the restaurants. The house was very clean and relaxing providing all the ammenities that we needed. Staff they had on had daily were amazing. Hope to return to Costa Rica again and would definitely stay in one of their homes again.
Did not Disappoint!
Beautiful spacious home nestled into the hillside in a secluded location! Daily visits by all types of monkeys kept us entertained while relaxing on the patio which had a beautiful view of the ocean. Although in a secluded location, was very close to shops and restaurants and only a couple of miles from Manuel Antonio National Park. Home was impeccably clean and maintained! Mykhol, the house manager, was just a phone call away to recommend restaurants, best priced grocery stores and must do excursions! He even arranged all the tours for us and the tour shuttle picked us up right at the house! Other household staff came by daily to clean and maintain the house! A beautiful and memorable experience!
Excellent in every way
Casa Mono Congois a coastal view holiday rental home that has no shrtcomings. The location is excellent with great forest canopy and Pacific Ocean views. Beaches and all the linked activities may be easily reached by a short bus ride or an energetic walk. Like wise for local shops and a variety of restaurants at least one of whicch is strikingly good by any standard.
If you prefer to cook at home the kitchen and dining areas are beautifully appointed giving wonderful surroundings to share a meal with family or friends.
The house and deck are verry spacious and well designed and is built with careful attention both to the needs of those with disabilities and careful preservation of the local environment. As a result, there is plenty of wildlife to delight you without leaving home although Manuel Atonio National Park provdes even more are is only a short ride away.
The staff are efficient, helpful and charming and really help in getting thevery best out of your visit.
Very highly recommended. I intend to go back very soon
AMAZING FOR THE FOURTH TIME!
We recently returned from our fourth stay at Casa Mono Congo and it never fails to be magical. The location is perfect for visiting Manuel Antonio National Park as well as many fine dining establishments in the area. However, nothing can compare to the actual experience at the house itself.
On our first evening, we were visited by about twenty or thirty titi monkeys, many with babies. They swung through the trees and played on the roof and patio right next to us. As the sun began to set, a group of about fifteen howler monkeys moved into the trees right above the pool and checked us out until dark. The following day we were visited by a sloth and a band of capuchin monkeys. They put on a show for us and three of them played on the balcony above the pool for about tweny minutes. The following days were more of the same.
The house itself is absolutely perfect for any group or family. It has three floors, four air-conditioned bedrooms and five full baths. The top floor has a wet bar with a beautiful view of the ocean and rain forest. It also has all of the modern conveniences while still maintaining a very eco-friendly environment. Terry and Pete are great hosts and they always go the extra mile to be sure everything you could need for a perfect vacation is provided. The house manager Mikol is the absolute best we've ever seen. He can recommend great restaurants, tours and out of the way local spots as well. He is extremely professional and immediately responsive to any questions or requests. For larger groups, they also own the house below, Casa Mono Titi, which is beautifully furnished with it's own pool and offers additional privacy as well.
If you are visiting the Manuel Antonio area, you can't get a better location to enjoy the true Costa Rica experience than Casa Mono Congo. We will be back for a fifth visit as soon as possible.
Six of us (grandparents, parents and two grandsons ages 11 and 14) stayed at Casa Mono Congo for a week earlier this month. Very easy to book by phone with Terry, one of the owners. This was the perfect house for us. All of us were excited to see it based on the pictures online, and we were not disappointed. Perfect floor plan, well maintained, with a "to die for" view off of the terrace on the main level and an even better view from the upper terrace--jungle, beach, ocean, rocks, just as pictured and described. Having our own pool on the terrace was a boon-if I didn't know better I'd say my younger grandson is a fish! Many enjoyable hours were spent lounging on the terrace enjoying adult beverages and marveling at the wildlife. We were visited daily by troops of white faced capuchin monkeys, awakened most mornings by howler monkeys, and graced with one playful visit by squirrel monkeys. We were also lucky enough (twice!) to see a kinkajou in the trees just off the terrace--apparently a rare sight. We were well taken care of with daily maid service and garden/pool service, and the house manager, Maykol (Michael) helped orient us to the area, took us into Quepos for a major food shopping trip, and suggested and arranged marvelous tours for us as well as some restaurants for nights we did not eat in. The night of our arrival we arranged through Maykol to have a chef-prepared dinner awaiting us when we walked in the door. We asked for a traditional Costa Rican meal and it was marvelous. We toured Manuel Antonio National Park with guide Mario Brenes (he's fantastic-go with him if you can); soared in and over the jungle canopy on ziplines; did a night-time mangroves tour again with Mario (our favorite tour of the entire week); and went to sea on a catamaran for snorkeling (murky because of recent rain), but we were lucky enough to come across a pair of sea turtles floating on the surface to mate! Our grandsons said it was their favorite trip ever-and that's what it's all about!
Home Sweet Home
This is our 2nd time at Casa Mono Congo. This home is heaven on earth. Whether you are looking for adventure in the jungle or a lazy day lounging in the hammock, it all can be found here. Once your reservations are made, Terry and Pete make sure everything is taken care of. We were picked up in San Jose at the airport and safely returned back there 8 days later. Jose took care of us during our stay at Casa Mono Congo. Since no one in my family speaks Spanish, we simply picked up the phone and called Jose. A friendlly "hola" greeted our every request. We all can't wait to go back home.
