My wife named Terrytory Cottage after me, Terry, so have fun pronouncing it correctly as she is a speech language pathologist. My work was operating heavy equipment in the mining Industry where I received reclamation recognition and awards. We live near Huntington. WV and also at Flagler Beach, FL. We grew up in the foothills of the Tri State Area of WV, KY and OH. We enjoy the colors of each season ... I photograph them and she watercolors, often plein aire (outdoors). Now we have grandchildren and It is a joy to take them and see to their surprise that it really is quite fun to put their devices aside and meet Wild and Wonderful West Virginia on a personal level. The simple pleasures we assume, they discover at Terrytory Cottage.
Terry E Blankenship purchased this cottage in 2002
We owned other property in Greenbrier County, but we wanted to Be closer to the conveniences of Lewisburg and the Greenbrier River Trail as we enjoy mountain biking and nature. We have ridden the entire trail during different trips, and this area was our favorite. We searched through realtors and on our own for years and no property was available. There are no rentals we could find in this area to house us. Providence smiled on us and the prior owners, and within hours we bought the property. We have completely remodeled It to meet the needs of both our family and our guests. We can walk or bike down our driveway and be on the trail, by the river, in a swimming hole, on a rock fishing, snapping photos and painting plein aire without getting in our car. Our Guests never want to leave, and neither do we. It is a wonderful sensation to feel stress melting away at Terrytory Cottage.
Terrytory Cottage has a mission to melt stress and build stronger families and relationships. Time is not spent in crowded tourist shops picking out the perfect t-shirt. Time to relax, to play, to reflect and spend time with friends and family. There are many local attractions to enjoy for day trips. This vacation will bring back the joy of discovery as you slow your pace and enjoy anything you choose to do: Catch a fish, write a book, be an artist, geocache, hike a mountain, bike the trails, snap some photos, take a nap, listen to the sounds of nature, build a stronger family, pass your football in the yard, bring your outside games, visit the area sites, go antiquing, make memories, a real vacation and go home refreshed and renewed.
Terrytory Cottage makes memories to last a lifetime.
Just a note to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay at the cottage on the bike trail. We were there with Pam and it was a wonderful place to be even in the rain. My husband and I have relatives in Lewisburg and will keep your rental information for a return in the future. We love biking the trail.
We stayed 4 nights and wished we had more time to spend. Enjoyed our morning cup of coffee and evenings after dinner on the large screened in porch. Deer ran through the yard 2 mornings. Easy walk down to the greenbrier river trail. The accommodations were clean and comfortable. Look forward to having the opportunity to stay again. Margaret Lopez
The cottage is very comfortable and well-equipped and conveniently located next to the Greenbrier trail and within 4 miles of the Blue Bend Recreation area in Monongahela Forest. This is a great getaway for an active family into biking, hiking, kayaking, swimming or for those looking for a beautiful and quiet spot to relax. The cute town of Lewisburg is just a short and scenic drive away.
My family and I enjoyed walking on the Greenbrier trail. Next time we'd love to bring our bikes and visit the Droop Mountain Tunnel. We also found a rope swing at one of the nearby camping sites on the trail and would love to try it out in summer. We hiked at the Blue Bend Recreation Area and were treated to stunning views from a ridge on Round Top mountain. A short trail behind the cottage led up to a lookout over the Greenbrier valley. My kids especially enjoyed the swing and can't wait to go back and play on it again.
The antique shops in Lewisburg were fun to poke around in and we had great coffee at the Wild Bean. The short drive to Beartown state park was well worth it to see the unusual and beautiful rock formations. We also drove up to the Cranberry Mountain visitor center for the views, another short but scenic drive. We had a bit of rain one day and decided to take the hour's drive up to Warm Springs, Virginia to visit the historic Jefferson hot springs. Another hit with the kids and definitely worth the trip.
Jackie and Terrie were very helpful hosts, even calling the first evening to make sure we'd arrived. Terrytory is the perfect base to explore this part of West Virginia.
Nice property with all the conveniences you could ever need. Great times to be had with the large screened porch and homey feel of the cottage!! Thanks to the owners they gave a us a great time!!
This was a great little cottage. lots of space for us all and all around really nice. Great little get away.
This was our first trip to West Virginia, and we were looking for a peaceful spot that would be comfortable for my wife, who is handicapped. Terrytory fit the bill. It's very restful, comfortable, immaculate, with a wonderful screened-in porch, and space to move around. Our only regret was that we were only staying for three days.
There's much to do and see, and we only tapped the surface. We'll be staying here again.
Five of us met at Terrytory for a cousins get together. Although it rained almost the entire time, we still enjoyed the out of doors on the screen-in porch working a puzzle, playing bean-bag toss, and rocking in the chairs telling stories while watching the wild life. We did get to take a couple of bicycle rides along the trail. It's not far to Lewisburg in one direction and Sherwood Lake in another direction. The cottage is fully equipped with lots of work space. Two bedrooms with jack-n-jill baths make it very comfortable for two couples or a family, but it was not convenient for the fifth person in our party since she had to go through the bedrooms to access a bathroom.
