We are in the heart of the Umpqua Valley wine country, with many internationally-awarded wineries within a few minutes. The house is upscale yet homey, with 2 outdoor decks and a covered porch. ...interesting antiques --- and the newly-remodeled kitchen has EVERYTHING you need, including many small kitchen appliances and an outdoor 6-burner gas grill. (Make your own blackberry gelato!) I even have a "S'mores Kit", complete with a little hibachi on the back deck. :)
The owners in the old farmhouse nearby would love to help you with travel ideas, and can point out what is ripe in the garden. You can pick your own raspberries for your pancakes!
It's a beautiful 40-minute drive to the North Umpqua River for world-famous fly-fishing, rafting and many miles of hiking trails and amazing waterfalls and Toketee Hot Springs. From there it's only another hour and a half to Crater Lake!
We are 3 hours south of Portland and an hour south of Eugene (and the University of Oregon Ducks!), at the end of a valley of fruit trees and vegetable farms. Your views are only of hazelnut orchards, mountains, fields and vineyards. Private, secluded 800-foot river beach is at the end of the farm field--- 5 minutes' walk or a couple minutes' drive. There is a great "treehouse deck" there overlooking the water with a small BBQ grill and a gorgeous view of our secluded swimming hole on the Umpqua River (swimming for all ages, and I have four kayaks to borrow!). Sit on our little river dock to fish for small-mouth bass or take your boat out for steelhead and trout (and small-mouth bass!).... fun for the whole family. Large outdoor play structure for children, plus 2 high chairs and a Pack-n-Play.
I have two comfy covered-foam single mattresses, and four tents for camping, with pads! Lots of outdoor games for your three acres, and indoor ones for rainy days, along with an extensive movie and book collection, for young, old and everywhere in the middle.
Large gas grill; shade-dappled front deck overlooking Valley's End Farm ---with the Callahan mountains across the Umpqua River and the hazelnut orchard next door. In season, we have many kinds of fruit, veggies and berries you can pick--and ask if the hens are laying!
The back (private to the Master Bedroom) deck overlooks the pinot noir vineyard, the children's play structure and Mt. Tyee. The other two bedrooms overlook mountains, farm fields and the hazelnut orchard. The light-filled house is homey, with comfortable furniture and antiques, books and historical Oregon photographs everywhere. There is original art in all the rooms, courtesy of my plein-air painter friends and artistic guests!
Go wine tasting minutes away! The Umpqua Valley is now the 4th-most visited wine region in the country, and our many beautiful wineries (such as Prayer Rock, Abacela and Hillcrest) win international awards. Crater lake is a 2 1/2-hour drive along the amazing North Umpqua River corridor. Golfing is six miles away, boat landing 1 mile. 1 hour to the wild Oregon coast for beach combing, whale-watching, charter fishing or storm-watching.
Don't forget the Wildlife Safari, if you have kids! Half an hour brings you to drive among the free-ranging giraffes, inquisitive emus, snorting rhinos...
.A quarter-mile away from us is the Lighthouse Center Bakery and Cafe--- wonderful (and generous!) vegetarian lunches, great "sticky buns", pastries and fabulous brick-oven artisanal bread.... hot from the oven at 11 a.m.! Hard to resist. (Closed on Mondays.) Have a latte with a blackberry turnover in the rose-covered gazebo out back!
