Means of access: The most frequently used means of accessing Korcula are: (1) Via ferry/catamaran from Split to Korcula or via ferry from Dubrovnik to Korcula, 2) Via car from Split or Dubrovnik followed by a short ferry ride from Orebic (Peljesac Peninsula) to Korcula.
Things to do on holiday to Korcula: There are many idyllic pebble beaches to choose from, most of which are never crowded. Sailing and boating from Lumbarda are wonderful activities allowing you to discover the tiny, uninhabited islands that surround Lumbarda (e.g. Vrnik), and have beautiful little beaches, as well as offering some of the most beautiful island scenery anywhere in the Mediterranean.
There are a huge amount of leisure activities to try in Lumbarda such as canoeing, kayaking, snorkelling & windsurfing. Scuba diving in Lumbarda is particularly adventurous, offering wreck diving, cave diving and wall diving allowing you to view first-hand the wondrous marine life of the Mediterranean. The island is a haven for walking and mountain biking holidays too. Remote spots are easily reached on both foot and bike allowing you to experience the sights and taking you to some of the most beautiful and peaceful spots on the island.
Having left the corporate world and nearing retirement, Inga decided to pursue her life long dream of running and managing a holiday property. Whilst Inga and her family have lived in Australia for the last 15 years, Inga travels across the globe every year to personally manage the apartments for 6 months of the year.
Inga Keric purchased this apartment in 1980
The Inga's family, born and bred in Dalmatia is very familiar with the Croatian coast. In the mid-1980s they set out to find a new holiday home – somewhere away from the hustle and bustle of the summer crowds, picturesque and rich in nature, yet not remote. For these reasons, Korcula was the obvious choice. After an extensive search of the island for the perfect house in the perfect bay, they found what is now called Villa Diha – a traditional Dalmatian stone house, with a terracotta tile roof and wooden shutters built a mere stone throw from the water’s edge.
Villa Diha is situated in undoubtedly the most attractive bay in the village of Lumbarda. This is the reason why the bay is often referred to by the locals as the Beverly Hills of Korcula.
Aside from this, the owner is very proud of the overwhelming number of comments from guests that the property feels like a home away from home rather than a rental property. This is reflected in the high number of repeat bookings annually.
Changeover day is Saturday in the High season (July and August).
Normal check-in is at 15:00 and check-out time at 10:00.
An extra person is charged 10 Euros per night.
Please note that the washing machine usage is separately charged at 7 Euros per load.
My husband and I along with our two teenage sons stayed at Villa Diha for a week in June 2014. The apartment, (with its two bathrooms) offered all the necessities we needed. We all loved the fact that we could just walk few stairs to our own waterfront area where we could either go for a swim or relax on a beach chair. Inga is a very lovely host and very accommodating. The villa is 3 minutes by car to Lumbarda or if its not too hot, walking will take you 15 minutes. As for Korcula, it was maybe 10 minutes by car. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this villa.
There are two types of holiday in my view. Those where you travel to another country and rush around trying to see all the sights and ultimately end up going home exhausted. And then there is the true holiday where you go to a place to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of your everyday life. We wanted the latter and that we got.
Korcula is a really beautiful island and the village of Lumbarda is the perfect spot - it is relaxing, picturesque and close enough to allow you to get around the island, explore and see the sights.
We were absolutely delighted with the apartment which exceeded our expectations. It was immaculate, both in terms of presentation and the way it was equipped. It really felt like we stayed in our own holiday home as opposed to just a place to sleep.
The apartment is spacious and there is ample room to store your luggage. There is also a lovely kitchen as well as a lounge and 2 lovely bathrooms and toilets. This makes it perfect for 2 couples or a family with children and it ensures everyone has privacy. My favourite part however was the outdoor area which comprises a large balcony overlooking the sea with an outdoor table, beach recliners and an umbrella. We used this area to its full potential, enjoying breakfast, dinners and a lovely glass of wine in the evenings.
The apartment is literally right on the waters edge and we spent most of our time swimming and sunbaking at the beach in front of the apartment. In addition, Lumbarda has many lovely beaches and you can literally walk around and choose the spot where you'd like to spend the day. This is made easier in the heat as there are plenty of pine trees to provide shade.
We also found it useful having the owners on site as they were very helpful and provided suggestions and recommendations for day trips and dining.
Whilst the apartment is peaceful it is by no means remote. Lumbarda village is very close and provides all amenities. We had a car, however we chose to stroll to the village most days in particular in the evenings (approximately 15 mins). Korcula town is also very accessible being under 10 mins by car or alternatively there is a comfortable public bus which goes almost every hour until the evening.
We would strongly recommend this apartment for your next holiday, particularly if you want time out
Just back from a wonderful stay in Korcula. We are two couples who had not been to Croatia previously and didn’t know what to expect. The beauty of this country surpassed all our expectations. The accommodation and location of this apartment met all our needs and Inga’s tips made our stay even more enjoyable. Inga and her husband are a delightful couple and nothing was too much trouble for them.
We hired a car at Dubrovnik airport and found the drive to Korcula via the ferry most enjoyable. The stop at Ston to break the journey was wonderful and as it was lunchtime a fantastic meal was taken at the local restaurant “Kapetanova Kuca” overlooking the oyster bays with magnificent mountains as the backdrop. Fresh fish baked in salt – wonderful!
Some mornings we would take a quick swim in the bay and then walk to Lumbarda for the breakfast groceries, other times we drove down when a few more provisions were required. There are some nice places to eat locally and our favourites were “More” in Lumbarda, “Ranch Maha” on the road to Putna and the terraced restaurant overlooking the cathedral in Korcula. Here we were serenaded by the choir having a practice – all very romantic! This same evening we watched the sword dance, which was well worth seeing.
Whilst a car is not essential we never regretted having one. In the ten days we were there we still didn’t get to some places we would have liked to. We loved the local beaches in Lumbarda, whilst trips to Pupnatska Luka, Racisce and Prizba were fantastic. The main road through the island is very good and getting to the little bays can be a little exciting but the rewards are worth it. Hired a small boat for a day with a 5HP engine and motored round the local islands and took a trip on a fast launch owned by Zoran just down the road to the island of Mljet. Most evenings on return to our lovely apartment we would take a swim in the bay before getting ready for a night out. The water everywhere was beautifully clear.
Feel quite reluctant to recommend this wonderful place as in time we hope it doesn’t get spoilt, but have had a wonderful holiday there – intend to go back next year!!!
We had a really great time in Korcula and the apartment excelled our expectations. It was spacious, presented to a very high standard and very well equipped. The balcony on two sides was perfect for sun-bathing or shade shelter. The location was ideal for us, quiet and relaxing with wonderful views across the bay, and only a few steps down to the sea for the early morning swim (or, indeed, afternoon swim).
Inga, the owner, is extremely helpful and friendly, and very accommodating.
There were 3 adults in our group and we did not feel that we needed a car - the walks into Lumbarda, to the grocery store and bakery (20 mins) and the beaches (30 mins), were part of our holiday, Although we did get a taxi back on one occasion when we had a big shop (it was the bottles!)
You can find a whole range of places to swim - rocks, sand or pebble beaches - depending on your preference. There is also a bus that takes you to Korcula and the town is well worth a visit, I can recommend getting the water taxi back. Wherever you go, the views are spectacular.
I suppose the highest recommendation is letting your friends and family know....I have.....and booking again. And I have already booked for Summer 2011,
We were a couple staying in late September in the luxury 1st floor 2 bed 2 bathroom apartment. The owner, Inga, who lives onsite was very helpful and knowledgeable. The apartment was clean and fresh, This one has an oven which is one reason why we went for it and was bigger because of the extra (small) bedroom and shower room. It does however have a narrow balcony whereas the other 1st floor apartment has a wide balcony. The location is very quiet and overlooks part of the bay. We had 36 hours of thunderstorms and torrential rain where it was impossible to get out of the apartment, the rains were so heavy, and we discovered we didn't have much to do for prolonged imprisonment - so do take a pack of cards at least. Inga has some english novels there so if you forget your book it's not a disaster. Croatian television though is pretty awful, if you end up being stuck inside, and we could only receive one channel on the television.
You do need a car to get provisions in Lumbarda itself, especially the bakery. Get morning bread early as by 9.30/10am very little is left. The restaurant about 100metres across the road is family run, very friendly people and a great place to go and sit by the water. We hired a little boat one day and arrived there by it to have some lunch - delightful. We actually went there 3 times as it was so easy from the apartment.
Korcula town is quite amazing, do try to see the Moreska sword dance performed twice a week in the town. It is a fabulous performance in part of the old walls of the town, very atmospheric. Korcula island is a beautiful place with the most amazing clear, clean sea, and a day's boat hire allows you to see it and all the surrounding islands from another wonderful angle. A highly recommended area and location - we wiould like to return and do some walking and further exploration.
We had an excellent holiday on the island of Korcula in July 2009. We are a family of four with one teenager and one student. The pristinely clean apartment was exactly what we needed, an excellent master bedroom with en-suite, plus a second small twin bedroom. Living accommodation was sufficient for four, cooking facilities basic but again sufficient. We dined for most meals on the balcony that overlooks the bay watching the boats come and go and soaking up the sun. The apartment is literally next to the sea, separated only by a quiet residential road, so who needs a pool. We were all up most mornings to swim across the bay and back ready for breakfast. Local supermarkets and restaurants are a 15 minute walk or five minute drive away in Lumbarda, more than sufficient for all needs. The owner, who speaks excellent English and who is on site, was very helpful, with local information and contacts as well as supplying great BBQ equipment. A small car is really needed. Take the advice of the owner, a taxi from the airport to the island, and locally hire a car. A little more expensive maybe, but removes all transit hassle. Go to Lumbarda, wind down and enjoy. Oh, and do go to the local fish restaurant 100 metres away from the apartment run by as friendly people as you could meet.
Lumbarda is a small and picturesque seaside village situated on the eastern coast of Korcula Island. The village is built in a secluded and picturesque cove with breathtaking views across the numerous tiny islands. It is a very popular tourist spot boasting the only sandy beaches on the island with the most popular (and busiest) being the sandy beach of Vela Przina. There are several taverns and restaurants in the village to give you the taste of the local cuisine as well as the famous dessert wine made from Grk grapes cultivated in Lumbarda. Lumbarda is only 5 kilometers from Korcula Old Town which is a perfect example of a medieval Dalmatian town with red sloped roofs and thick defensive stone walls. Korcula is rich in historical monuments, cathedrals, galleries and embodies the essence of Dalmatian ambiance. There is also an abundance of delightful cafes and restaurants to tempt your taste buds. Dubrovnik is easily accessible by car, ferry and a daily door-to-door taxi service.
