Excellent Location for Getting Away
Thank you, Ester, for a great stay at Yellow Tuna. The property was immaculate and had everything you could ask for, including the hot tub and the sauna. We used those after a long day of driving and after long hikes. Thanks also for the fresh coffee beans ready for our use after arriving late the day we made it to Nova Scotia. The luxurious bathrooms were spotless and well stocked with the amenities one needs when traveling as well as the homey atmosphere of the entire home. I highly recommend this home to anyone looking to get away, enjoy the local environment, and enjoys drinking coffee on the deck overlooking the water and/or a glass of wine at the end of the day!

Wonderful stay at The Yellow Tuna
If I could give the Yellow Tuna six stars I would. The house is gorgeous, tastefully decorated, immaculate, has beautiful views of the water, plenty of linens & towels, as well as kitchen & bathroom supplies. The hot tub & fireplace in the living room top off an already incredible vacation experience. Esther, the owner, could not have more helpful. She met us when we arrived even though it was late in the evening. She went through all the features of the house & left us cream for our coffee, coffee beans, candy, soda & bags of ice. Her property manager John was also very accommodating. He even arranged for bait to be delivered to the house for our day of fishing. We experienced no issues while staying at the Yellow Tuna, but took comfort knowing if we had Esther would have responded quickly. All the locals we met were super friendly & very helpful. I’m sure we will find our way back to the Yarmouth NS area again & when we do, we will definitely stay at the Yellow Tuna.

About the host

After many years in the big city, I discovered this charming Acadian fishing village 15 years ago, and have felt entirely at home here ever since. With a mix of cultures (Acadian French, Metis, Canadian-English), everyone's story is heard and counts. I also greatly enjoy being surrounded by such beautiful nature – ocean and rivers, salt marsh, forests, countless islands to explore, and starry night skies – and am very grateful to be working with a wonderful team of housekeepers and property manager, who passionately make sure this Auberge awaits each guest in sparkly clean, and "as new" condition, and are pleased to assist guests whenever desired.

Why they chose this property

This historic property has magnificent views, in a peaceful setting, and in a UNESCO Starlight tourist certified area, with beautiful starry nights. This 1885 home was vacant for many years and slated for demolition, until completely rebuilt and sustainably renovated from 2017 to 2018, with completion in August 2018. Located in the charming fishing village of Wedgeport (with convenience-liquor store, restaurant, bank, museum, harbours, etc.), boat and charter tours to the famous Tusket Islands, Tuna sports fishing tours, and starlight viewing, it is only 15 minutes from major shopping, and the Ferry Terminal in Yarmouth. It can accommodate a party of 1 to 4 people, is ideal for a staycation, a regenerative wellness retreat, and perfect for a family or girls get-away, at the ocean, close to beaches, and beautiful nature, with out door hot tub, sauna, and fire-pit, overlooking the water. With a private forest bordering the salt marsh only in a few minutes walking distance, sef-guided shinrin-yoku (forest bathing) is also available, and can be enjoyed as often as desired. All amenities are open and accessible year around.

What makes this property unique

This property has beautiful nature and water views, magnificent sunrises and sunsets, a hot tub off the deck overlooking the Bay, an outdoor barrel sauna, and a large deck ideal for relaxation and yoga (yoga mats are are available). The inside is bright and cozy, and perfect for a relaxing stay any time of year. Ideal wellness retreat, state of the art, with purified water system, safe, and always 5 star clean. Designed as a luxurious nature retreat, with rejuvenation, relaxation, and connection to soul in mind – although at the same time close to local culture and vibrant Acadian village life.
