Comfy and Cozy weekend Get-a-way!

  • 5 of 5

The condo was perfect for our mom's weekend! It provided us with everything we needed and it was perfect for 4 people. Close to the main lodge and walking trails. The place was very clean, decorated nicely and the owner communicates well letting us know to contact them at anytime during our stay if we had any questions. I'd recommend this place for a family of 4 or even a "friends bonding weekend". Thanks for opening your condo up to us...I would definitely stay here again.

Nice, but . . .

  • 3 of 5

In spite of several things not up to par, we enjoyed our stay. It was good to get away and enjoy each other. However, for the price you pay the service should have been better. The tiled floors were suppose to be heated, the kitchen was not. We never did get light bulbs for the bedroom lamps, even though they came twice to bring them. The bbq needs some help. Only one unit worked and I had to be innovative in clearing and operating the grill. You might want to bring your own BBQ equipment because they had none. Oh, and the tv never did work right.

The view from our room was interesting. We were able to view the peak of the entrance roof from our window. I have to admit, I was hoping for more greenery but it's hard to know what you'll end up with until you arrive.

Great price! Deferred maintenance and not very clean...

  • 3 of 5

Working with the owner was easy and straight forward... Very nice owner.

I know Suncadia well so I knew I was getting a small unit, without a view, and in the Trailhead Condos vs. the Lodge. So the value was good for the cost.

I want to be clear that I don't think it's fully the owners fault, and more likely the housekeeping/maintenance crew... but this unit was not clean and has some serious deferred maintenance.

The heated floors in the bathroom didn't work and the thermostat flashed GFCI... thought there was a bathroom GFI popped but couldn't find any GFI plugs any where. The toilet seat lid was broken and had screws exposed, you almost couldn't see out of the windows they were so dirty. Bird poop on the deck, table and chairs, light bulbs burned out above fireplace and outside.

Last comment was during check-in I felt like I was going against the rules or doing something bad. The person said "oh you're friends of the owners I see"... and I said "ummm.. no actually I don't know the owner"... and he paused for some time and it felt like I SHOULD be friends of the owners, and perhaps putting your unit on VRBO was against the rules vs. having Suncadia management rent it out? Not sure... but it felt odd.

Good alternative to the high-priced resort/lodge

  • 4 of 5

I rented this condo to enjoy some fun in the snow with my two kids, ages 3 and 5. Overall, the condo worked well for us. Having a washer/dryer was super convenient given how wet our snow clothes got each day. The condo is well stocked with all the kitchen/cooking supplies you could need and plenty of towels, blankets, pillows, etc. I packed my own groceries to help save on costs which worked great.

The owner has a nice selection of board games and DVD's that are family appropriate. It was a little confusing trying to figure out the remote controls to the TV/DVD player. It would have been nice to have had some printed instructions. One remote for the TV in the bedroom was missing batteries.

My 5 year old slept on the pull-out sofa bed and I shared the Queen bed with my 3 year old.

The radiant floor heat in the bathroom is awesome!

Someone commented in a previous review about the poor drainage in the tub. That is still the case. The drain does not drain very efficiently so there is standing water in the tub during a shower. It did not bother me. I was mostly using the tub for baths for my kids anyway.

If I were to stay here again, I would bring a little step-stool. My kids had a hard time reaching the bathroom sink. We improvised with a mop bucket which did the trick.

One complaint is that the unit is right off the main hall near the elevators. It can get noisy. In general, the sound proofing in this building is poor. You can hear a lot of building noise. We brought a white noise machine for sleeping which helped.

The amenities at Suncadia such as the complimentary s'mores roasting were a hit. Unfortunately the hot tub at the condo was closed due to too much snow which was a bummer. The location of the condo is close to the lodge but not close enough to walk with two kids, especially at night when the road felt dark and unsafe with lots of snow and ice. So be prepared to drive and deal with the chaotic parking or use the Suncadia shuttle service.

Communicating with the owner was not a problem. She was quick to respond to emails prior to my trip and to texts throughout the weekend when I had a few questions. Overall, this was a good way for us to experience Suncadia for the first time. It's a very expansive property and takes some getting used to to figure out where everything is and how best to take advantage of it.
