About Miranda Herbert Morris
I am a very down-to-earth person that stays active in the Houston Arts & Culture scene. I'm an event planner by nature, so hosting our sweet little cottage for HomeAway comes naturally! Some of the Arts & Culture work I stay involved with in Houston include: Grant Writing and Development planning for non-profit art, civic, and animal rescue organizations, work with local theater companies as an actor/artist, and my husband and I are both musicians in local bands. I enjoy spending time with my family as often as I can, and we love getting down to the beach as often as possible (it's therapy for us). As always, I wish I had more time in my day than I do. ha ha! My style of hosting is to give the guest as much privacy as they want. We will not come to the property during your stay, unless you need assistance, a quick home repair, or just want to meet us in person. :) On the off-chance I need anything out of the storage shed onsite, I will ALWAYS message in advance to let you know when I'll swing by. During your stay, if you need references to any great Arts & Culture places to visit, my husband and I can definitely refer you to some of the best! (and even tell you where the lesser known/hidden gems are too!) I trust that guests will always treat our home like their own. This house is very special to us and the community. We expect guests to leave the home in the same condition they found it, or better. We look forward to hosting your stay in Houston! Please message me anytime with questions. I love meeting new people and helping them plan their perfect trip!
Why Miranda Herbert Morris chose South Central Houston
The History of Cottage 313 (or as we call her, "Marie") Marie was built in 1930, and though the original owner of this Victorian style cottage still remains unknown, Marie was purchased by the Alvarado family in 1938. Mrs. Maria Alvarado (Marie is named after her) loved to cook & bake! (yes we still use her original 1940's stove!) During the 1940’s, the Alvarado family turned the living room into a small neighborhood grocery store. They provided fresh produce, Mexican specialty baked goods, candies, tamale’s and more to this neighborhood until the late 70’s. The pecan tree (out back) was also planted by the Alvarado family and supplied pecan’s for Maria’s home baked pastries and candies. The tree is about 80 years old. Members of the community still remember the home as a beloved local grocery. Our family purchased "Marie" from the Alvarado’s granddaughter in 2010 and loved living there. In 2018, we decided to convert Marie into a rental property to save her from the fast approaching development occurring in our neighborhood. Guests will notice that our home and our neighbors home are the only two houses remaining on the street; everything else has been replaced with townhomes. Cottages like Marie are disappearing across Houston, and we don’t want to see that happen to her. We’ve tried our best to keep everything as original as we can inside the home, while providing all the modern updates guests require. We will continue to honor the tradition and culture of this great East End neighborhood.
What makes this House unique
I like to say, "We've thought of everything", when describing the amenities of Cottage 313. This home used to be MY home, and I want it to feel like YOUR home while staying here. We trust that guests will treat our home as their own; with love & respect. If we have missed something that guests think should be provided, please let us know and we'll add it! When staying at the house, you are literally less than 1 mile from the mecca of Downtown Houston; but you won't feel like that at all. It's so quiet here, but just steps away from the heart of everything Houston.
