cozy and relaxing
My daughter and I stayed for 3 nights and found the cottage to be just right for us. It is super cute and in an area that feels like you are in a garden. The house is surrounded by decks with plants and it felt very peaceful even though you are close to town and beach. It also felt safe which was important to me especially traveling alone with my daughter. It had all we needed including a beach bag with towels, chairs and an umbrella for the beach. Ron and Kate emailed us to check in and give us tips for parking etc which was very helpful. They also left a bottle of wine which was very sweet. Thank you so much for a great stay!
Cozy, quiet, clean cottage in the trees
This is a wonderful place, so close to downtown Santa Monica, the PCH, and only 30 minutes from downtown LA. But it feels like it's in a little forest. The neighborhood is lovely. At night you can hear the surf breaking on the beach, which is a short walk down the hill. The cottage has everything you need (and a ton of books). We hope to stay there again.
Peaceful, Cool setting, with perfect location for beach and more.
My wife & I thoroughly enjoyed staying a week here.
It is a peaceful oasis away for the crush of city traffic. Some restaurants in walking distance, including Patrick's Roadhouse for all-day breakfast or lunch. A short drive to Santa Monica Pier, or just a mile to the Palisades Village for groceries, and other eating options.
The cottage was well equipped with comfortable bed, kitchen, etc. The climate in the area was cool and comfortable, under shady trees. It was relaxing to just walk the neighborhood, and enjoy the outside patio too.
Ron & Kate were the best Homeaway owners by being extremely communicative, with detailed info and communication at every stage, to make sure our stay was smooth.
Very interesting property in a fabulous location.
If a California vibe with pleasant interior and exterior spaces is what you are looking for, check out this property!
Clean, cozy, private
Everything we needed was provided.
Soothing Canyon Life and Ocean Sounds
My husband and I loved our 2 nights at this adorable little cottage in Rustic Canyon. Just what we were looking for, a tranquil getaway from the city in a familiar old neighborhood where I grew up. I loved the familiar sites and sounds of wildlife all around us including the scent of a passing skunk. The ancient trees that surround this property add coolth and habitats for creatures to thrive. Bird watching of hummingbirds, crows, and flocks of wild green parrots abound. In the morning and late in the day you have a somewhat steady stream of cars as neighbors come and go from home to work and back again. The cottage is perched over garages on this narrow street. So it is fun and relaxing to just sit on the wrap around balcony and watch people walking their dogs, going on hikes up the street with friends, riding their bikes up the hill, skateboarding down the hill and watching the cars go by. The railing allows for you to see out, but you are privately hidden from view. Late at night and very early in the morning when all sounds have stopped except for the mockingbird songs, you can hear the ebb and flow and crashing of the waves on the beach about a mile or so away. Quite soothing as you lie on your comfy bed with down comforter. There are plenty of windows to open for cool fresh canyon air to counter the the heat of the city. We were here during a record breaking heatwave since 1886 which was not only very hot but also very muggy. The cottage stayed nice and cool and was an excellent escape from all this heat and mugginess elsewhere. We slept like babies.
The cottage is perfect for 2. It's tight, but very well laid out and appointed. There is a plummed gas grill in its own small brick patio where I grilled our meat both days. The kitchen is well stocked with most everything you need to prepare a lite meal. We wanted for nothing and enjoyed the many hours outdoors on the balcony for both relaxing and all our meals. The first night we watched a movie we brought with us on their large screen TV. The next night there was a brownout in the area due to the heat, so we just stayed on the balcony and enjoyed a bottle of wine until bedtime. So soothing. No worries.
We met our gracious host Ron our second day. He was very helpful and welcoming. We would highly recommend this cottage to others. Parking for one is convenient. You can park parrell to the garage below and walk up the 21 steps to the cottage and your treehouse above it all in the canyon.
