About Toni Fuqua
I would like to share my dream with you of living in paradise. My working career in the US is just about ready to end and I have just purchased (Feb 2015) my dream retirement home on the island of Roatan Honduras.
Toni Fuqua purchased this House in 2015
Why Toni Fuqua chose Lawson Rock
I am very proud of my new home, I call it "Casa Grande!" I fell in love with Roatan on a vacation cruise and in Feb. of 2015, I purchased it as my future retirement home, something I dreamed of all my life. In a few years I will be able to stop working, and live there full time. I immediately began to make it my home, something I would be happy and proud to live in. I found a great local contractor and had it remodeled! New paint and color schemes top to bottom, refinished floors including outside decks, new closets/shelves, bath/shower fixtures, replaced/fixed fans, locks, blinds, curtains, screens, linen, etc.. I still have more to do but I and will have fun upgrading more things as time allows. The appliances all work very well and are in great condition!
What makes this House unique
You will find plenty of nice items in the kitchen like a blender to make fresh Mango/Banana/Coconut beverages from the trees in the yard. I’ve provided new silverware, dishes, cups, etc... Oh and the best of all...A George Foreman Sandwich grill! I really want you to feel at home in my home! Juan Carlos, my property manager can really make your trip enjoyable and fun. He knows everything to do there and is a very helpful and a very interesting person to meet. All the other residents in our community are just as friendly and open. The Blue Parrot, the restaurant/bar on site, is the watering hole for the community and is very family friendly. There are two things you must do when you stay at Casa Grande...Enjoy the sunset from the upper viewing level of the Sundancer pier with the other residents and early each morning, watch the hummingbirds feed from the feeder I have on the front deck of the house while you are swinging in the hammock...my favorite thing to do with a cup of fresh brewed coffee. Both Decks of Casa Grande are fully screened in top and bottom. This allows you to bring the outside inside. Open up the doors and enjoy the fresh air...especially during and after the early morning showers! So...if you like to live in paradise, give me a call...Mi Casa es Su Casa!

Mixed feeling too
I agree with some of the other reviews I have mixed feelings about this rental. The owner Toni is super nice and will answer any questions you have. The house is big and 3 bed rooms have air conditioning (2 downstairs, 1 upstairs) however the house sits next to the islands main road making it noisy (lots of trucks and honking)and the patio faces the road. I also contacted the owner once we arrived bc what you can't see in the pictures is that the tiled counter top in the kitchen is cracked, moldy and has grout missing in some places. On the upside there are plenty of dishes, glasses and silverware. The housekeeper isn't very thorough, i felt the need to scrub counter tops and the bath with bleach to get some of the stains and grime off. (FYI we rented a 2nd cabin at Sundancer and had no problems there with the house keeping/cleanliness)
A general word of advice about Roatan. If you are a family with children looking for a beach vacation with some snorkeling/diving - stay at WestBay! bc the other beaches on the island all have sand flies (no see ums) and sea grass in the ocean making it less suitable for children to play in the sand or shallow water. SandyBay does have a private dock from which you can swim without touching sea grass, plus sea grass means sea turtles ! So if you plan to go snorkel or take a dive tour each day this isn't an issue.
A rental car is convenient but not necessary, Taxis run about every 5 minutes, just walk to the road and one will stop or catch the public bus.
So happy that you made it back home safely, but sorry to know that my home did not meet your expectations. I set criteria for the cleaning staff and am not sure why your experience was not a pleasant one. I have been in contact with my Property Manager, Juan Carlos, and we are working together to make sure that the next vacationer does not have similar concerns.
Thank you for your review and for bringing these details to my attention. I hope you will give me another opportunity for a better experience when you return to Roatan. Being on vacation should feel like a home away from home and I apologize that you did not feel this way.”
spacious house with potential
The house is beautifully built, tons of room, awesome porches that are screened in and in a great location if you don't want to be in the middle of all the action. It is a great get away space... not too far and not to close to much of the island. The beds weren't bad, the sheets were fine and there were LOTS of towels to use at the beach or the pool. And we loved the pool, the dock and snorkeling. As stated, all appliances work but the kitchen is lacking in some needed items. We cooked most meals at home... There are no pans to use in the oven (borrowed some from the kind neighbor), no bowls that are microwave safe (used a glass measuring cup), no rubber spatula and only 1 HUGE mixing bowl to put salad in or use for any kind of mixing...and I filled it with watermelon on arrival. We didn't mind being close to the road, we just used ear plugs. It was great to be a bit away from the neighbors. We had no trouble using the city bus and actually enjoyed meeting the locals as we traveled. We also walked down the beach to the Salty Mango for dinner. A great walk and the food was good.. I highly recommend happy hour and the coconut shrimp!
The one thing that hits you when you get ther is the proximity of the road. Very, very noisy.
Dogs are everywhere and they love to bark all night. Roosters too, but, hey, this is latin america.
Ear plugs are a must.
House was clean, spacious and surrounded with mosquito screens which is a real bonus. We never used the air conditioning. If you open all windows, a gentle breeze makes it tolerable on very hot days.
Kitchen is rudimentary equipped as far as utensils, needs an upgrade.
The manager is a nice guy. We would have appreciated a follow-up on us after 24 or 48 hours. We only saw him when it was time to leave. Not too far from West End, transportation is easy. Nice environment, lots of trees and shade.
Beautiful and perfect for a group of family or friends
We stayed with seven of us at Casa Grande and the property was perfect. A four minute walk from the beach, one minute walk from the pool, and an amazing private dock. If you are looking to explore the island it is a little far away from things but we were pretty content just staying on the beach and private dock. There is an awesome dive/snorkeling show a couple docks down and the people are super nice. The reefs are perfect and we saw a ton of fish. The property owner was super helpful and the property manager was also fantastic. We had an air conditioner break down and he fixed it that night! It is a beautiful house, perfect for any vacation. We would love to come back!
My family and I visited the Island for the 1st time and the beaches are breath taking! We stayed at Sundancer, Casa Grande Unit#14. Casa Grande is very spacious, clean, has working A/C, kitchen, dining and living rooms, a private pool, cable and easy access to restaurants and other near by beaches such as West Bay. I would certainly recommend this place to friends and family members.
Casa Grande is an excellent place to stay in Roatan! It is a 2-story cabin with all kinds of amenities; it has a kitchen, living and dining area, A/C in all rooms and patios on both floors. My family and I had one of the best vacations ever! We enjoyed the private pool, beach, and the walks on the pier; watching the sunsets from the dock was priceless. It is a place I would love to come back to in the next couple of years. Very happy with the overall experience.
Casa Grande, perfect for big families, is in a private, safe, beach front community in Sandy Bay. Explore the unspoiled, pristine beauty of underwater corals, exotic fish and flora of the Roatan Marine Reserve (second largest barrier reef system in the world), all within swimming distance from your private dock. Certified scuba, snorkeling, fishing, kayaks and guided excursions are available at the adjacent Blue Island Dive shop just steps down the beach. The Blue Parrot, on site Restaurant/Bar, offers great island cuisine. Casa Grande is also just minutes away from Coxen Hole and West End shopping, with EZ access to public transportation.
