Victorian House With and a Beautiful View of the Mountains

A three story Victorian home--- Looking for the perfect vacation in a real Victorian home within walking distance of downtown Asheville? The Grand Old Lady was built in 1889-1890 even before the Biltmore House. .She faces east, with a breath taking view of the mountains .. The grand entrance is by the huge granite steps, that leads you to an unbelievable front porch, with a gazebo and rest for the weary. An awesome porch swing and comfortable lounging chairs to relax in, after a day of sightseeing or to just relax with a cool drink and a good book. There is usually a cool breeze blowing to make you comfortable, the other side of the front porch is also furnished with comfortable rocking chair and lounging furniture, beside the porte cochere, where the beautifully dressed ladies stepped onto the porch from the coaches in 1890.

Large double doors take you into the foyer and a comfortable sitting room. The "Parlor" has an inviting atmosphere with some antiques , featuring an 1859 Grand Piano and an antique sofa from the Biltmore House. The " McCanless Library " invites you to read a good book or watch television for a while. The "Grand Dining Room "is inviting with a large oak table and chairs , that accommodates six people, furnished with china cabinets and a tiger oak buffet. The " Butlers Pantry " adjoins the dining room and has a serving window, where the butlers received the food from the kitchen to serve to the guests. The kitchen , sometimes called the " Scullery" is well furnished with pots, pans, dishes, etc. to make it possible to cook a wonderful meal.

The grand stairs await you to take you up stairs. There is " Grandmother Cora's Suite ," furnished with an antique full bed and a private bath, with an antique claw foot tub of your own to soak in.

The third floor has three bedrooms and the " Scarlett Princess Bathroom". It is decorated in red and has a red clawfoot tub to relax in. The " Treehouse Room" is furnished with antiques with a full size bed and is nestled in the trees. The " Lighthouse Room " is furnished with a king size bed, tv and other interesting furniture. it overlooks the front of the house.

Fantastic Home in Asheville's Montford Area

  • 5 of 5

Shirley is a fantastic host and provides a great home, especially for larger groups For being 120-plus years old, the home is in great condition and allows for a very comfortable stay. Rooms are large, plenty of common areas and an impressive amount of outdoor space. Everything in the home is a little old fashioned but that also lends to its charm. Be aware that there is not much TV to be watched as the home has no cable and even local channels are limited. However, Shirley provides free wifi for laptops and tablets. Was able to still watch football even without a TV. I highly recommend staying at Shirley's home. It greatly enhanced my group's visit to Asheville.

Amazing house and property! Excellent location. Very peaceful.

  • 5 of 5

We had a party of 12 and were very comfortable in this large historic home. The house is situated in a very peaceful setting that is close to downtown, but feels very private. Beautiful views. The large porch is nice for sitting outside with a group of friends or family and just relaxing. Shirley, the owner, was a delight and made the experience very easy and convenient. I would love to stay here again.

Close to town and a great porch for twelve

  • 4 of 5

Six couples shared this house on a mountain biking trip to Asheville. It is a classic turn of the century house and we used the great porch almost exclusively as the weather was perfect for our trip. We really wanted a place that was close enough to town to walk and this house was an easy 12 minute walk. We ate out each night but found that the kitchen was not really adequately equipped to easily cook for twelve. Our only other issue was ventilation. Weather was great so we were able to keep the doors open while we were around. Could not open any windows for fresh air. We all agreed we could rent this house again.

Awesome Historic House!

  • 5 of 5

This house was amazing. We had a large group of 13 and it was easily enough room for us all. My favorite spot was the outdoor gazebo area on the front porch. It was an easy walk downtown, about a mile to the breweries. Shirley, the owner was great and very accommodating. I would definitely recommend this house to anyone.
