4 bedroom, 3 bathroom in centro historico, sleeps 5 + convertible bed for 2 more
Situated in the historic center, this adorable, light-filled colonial casa offers terrific views of La Parroquia, the town, lake, and mountains. Just three blocks above the main square, it is within walking distance of everything there is to see and do within San Miguel: art and language schools, galleries and museums, library and bookstores, parks and gardens, restaurants and bars, shops and markets, theaters and clubs, spas and gyms, and so much more. Taxis and buses are nearby when needed.
Apart from its central location, you will also enjoy this home's old-world charm and modern comforts. Designed to accommodate privacy when needed and entertaining when desired, the house is built on three levels with fine local materials, skillfully hand-crafted by master artisans: mesquite woodwork, Talavera and Saltillo tiles, brass and ceramic hardware, wood-beamed and boveda ceilings. It has high ceilings, tasteful furnishings, and beautiful Mexican folk art.
The ground floor features a formal living room with fireplace, efficient but fully-equipped kitchen, and a separate dining room that opens into a lushly landscaped courtyard with outdoor seating and tables. Off the courtyard are two cozy bedrooms, each furnished with a twin-size bed, writing desk and armoire. These two bedrooms share a bathroom. Also on the ground floor, at the back of the house, is the service room in which you'll find the washer and dryer and a fourth full bathroom.
From the courtyard, there are two staircases on opposite ends of the house. The back staircase leads to a third bedroom with twin-size bed. This one has its own bathroom and is detached from the main part of the house -- very private and popular with teens and young adults. The main staircase leads to the spacious master suite, which has a king-size bed, sitting areas around the fireplace, bathroom en suite, and a view of La Parroquia . Also on the second level, next to the master suite, is a terrace furnished with chaise lounges, tables and chairs. On the third level is a second terrace where you can enjoy additional outdoor living. Both terraces are the perfect perch for sunbathing or stargazing, relaxing with your favorite book and beverage, and admiring the amazing views and sunsets.
This is a family and pet friendly home. It sleeps up to five comfortably: 2 on a king-size bed in the master suite and 1 on a twin-size bed in each of the 3 smaller bedrooms. There is a full-size convertible sofa bed in the living room that can accommodate up to two additional guests.
The house is professionally managed by English-speaking staff and comes with housekeeping services. Cooking and laundry services are available.
Enjoy your home away from home!

About Property Manager
Although residents of the San Francisco Bay Area since the 60s and '70s's, our paths did not cross until 1991. By chance, we had both planned to spend 1-year sabbaticals in San Miguel to write and to study. We arrived about the same time and met soon after. Within two montsh of our first encounter, we were living together and engaged to be married! That year, we established many a great friendships and strong ties with the artist community and knew then that our life in San Miguel would continue past the end of our sabbaticals. In the summer of 1992 we got married in Berkeley, and toward the end of December 1993, we began our search for our dream retirement home in San Miguel. It was an intense search. We looked at about 30 or so homes within a week's time. On the verge of burn-out and just as we were about to give up, we happened upon this house and immediately fell in love. It seemed perfect in every respect: location, views, and size; architecture, design, and craftsmanship; furnishings and finishes -- wow! But just to be sure, we asked our real estate agent to get the sellers to let us stay in the house for 10 days so we could experience living in it. It far exceeded our expectations and by early January 1994 we were the proud new owners of Garita 8. We are delighted to be able to share it with you.

Why Property Manager chose Zona Centro
Of the inhabited places on the earth, San Miguel is one of the easiest on the eyes. There is a quality of light here that draws artists from all over the world. We chose our particular location in San Miguel because we wanted to be near the heart of the city in the beautiful, well preserved historic center, where it is illegal to build anything looking newer than 500 years old, and because of the spectacular views of the whole city and the valley below from two terraces, the master bedroom, and even the master bath!
What makes this House unique
We love that we can get around on foot 99% of the time; that we have the space to accommodate visiting family and friends and to entertain guests; that public transportation is accessible and inexpensive; that good food is plentiful; that there is no shortage of educational, cultural and recreational activities and events; that we have good neighbors; that we meet interesting people from all over the world; that the climate is good;; that we can feel safe and relaxed; that the community is kid-friendly; that we have some of the best views in town and have very few steps to climb to enjoy them.

Notes
- Housekeeping is provided Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The housekeeper's name is Adelina who has been part of our family for over 10 years. She is available to cook for you and do your laundry upon request. Please make your requests for additional services well in advance of your arrival. Costs for additional services are to be paid directly to Adelina on the day of service. Our property manager, Evaristo, is also very helpful and a wonderful resource. He is a real estate broker as well, and if you are in the market to purchase real estate in Mexico, we hope you will use him as your buyer's agent.

Beautiful home in excellent location! Rooftop sunsets are breathtaking.
Thank you for letting my family stay at your beautiful home.
We had an amazing week! THE VIEW! THE VIEW! THE VIEW from the furnished rooftop was incredible. We made sure we were home for sunset every night.
The master bedroom is wonderful with a King bed, a sitting area and private bath. The three other bedrooms all had single beds and in room bathroom access for our kids. The family room has a pullout couch if needed. The location is perfect! We walked from the quiet home to the heart of town in less than 10 minutes. If you are considering staying in San Miguel you do not have to look any further...STAY HERE!
A perfect home in San Miguel
This is a wonderful place, close to everything, and very good for groups. Every room has privacy, the views are magnificent, the home is well appointed and clean. The only negative was the construction going on next door, all day, five days a week, which was a drag, so it may be wise to check on the progress of that when you're booking.
Spacious and charming hillside retreat has lots to offer.
With beautiful views, an attentive and lovely housekeeper, plenty of supplies, this is a great house for a group of friends/family. Great kitchen to cook in, if you are so inclined, great roof to drink on and play cards, cozy, yet spacious. YES. michelle
Thank you, Michelle!
Stunning home away from home
Just got back from spending Independence weekend in San Miguel and we absolutely loved the house. We plan to go back soon and re-book. I will recommend this property to all my friends visiting San Miguel.
"The Best"
From the beginning of making the reservation at Garita #8, everything was wonderful ! We were greeted graciously, the house was clean, comfortable, well laid out for our group of friends! We were attending a action packed 5day event wedding ...the location was perfect, never late for anything! We all want to come back and stay at Garita#8 and see more of the beautiful city San Miguel. Thank you Mr. Hitz
Hermosa y comfortable casa
