Seaview Spanish-Style Condo Just 4 Blocks from the Malecon

Bedrooms 2
Property type condo
Minimum Stay 4 - 6 nights

About the property

Condo, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Remodeled Baths, (Sleeps 4)

This beautiful two bedroom Condo has lovely ocean views from the living room and master bedroom - you can even hear the waves at night! Spectacular sunsets can be enjoyed from the condo or the roof terrace. The condo features large-scale artwork by renowned Mexican artists. Both bathrooms have been newly remodeled in contemporary styling with leather granite counter-tops, rain-forest shower, optional mood lighting and seating areas in both showers.

The Condo complex is three stories high (our unit is on the second floor) and only has six Condos in it. There is an on-site caretaker who also acts as security. There is inclusive maid-service on Saturday's.

The heated pool has been fully refurbished and the terrace itself has just been completely re-tiled and has new patio furniture and chaises. There is also a "palapa" for shade from the sun and evening gatherings.

With private balconies off each bedroom through french doors, the Condo has a wonderful sense of fresh air. We usually leave the windows open day and night.

The floors are tiled in typical Spanish style but the living room furniture is new and very comfortable.

Cobbled streets outside the complex lead down to the Malecon (five minutes) and Downtown with all its wonderful galleries, restaurants and nightlife.

About Philip Evans

I am originally from England, but now live in Los Angeles. I am Director of Starline Tours of Hollywood - so tourism is my job. I love to travel and see the world.

Philip Evans purchased this condo in 2005

Why Philip Evans chose Cerro

We bought the property in the Old Downtown because we wanted the authentic feel of Puerto Vallarta with the cobbled streets and red tiled roofs. The old Downtown has most of the great art galleries, many of the great restaurants - "Cafe Des Artistes" is just a 5 minute walk from the condo. The Malecon (the seafront promenade) is here - just 8 minutes walk from the condo, where you can stroll along in the evening and watch the world go by. The buildings in the area all have an authentic Mexican feel, rather than the modern sterile blocks that are being built in Nuevo Vallarta and some other parts of the city - which just feel like Hiltons anywhere in the world. In this part of town, we feel like we are in another culture - it feels very mediterranean - Portugal, Spain or Italy. We love the fact that here the rainforest meets the sea. The sunsets are spectacular. Overall, there is always lots to do in this part of town - it is a truly cosmopolitan city with something for everyone.

What makes this condo unique

The condo building only has 6 condos, so it feels more like a large Spanish house divided up, rather than a condo building. Often we are the only people by the pool. We love having an onsite caretaker who looks after any problems we might have while staying in Puerto Vallarta. The condo itself is about 5 blocks back from the Malecon, up the hill so we get views out over the bay from our Living Room and Bedroom. There is also a breeze that is constantly coming through the condo - so keeping things cool - something that does not happen lower down by the water.

The condo has Spanish tile floors and textured walls - so you really feel you are in Mexico.

Since we are back from the Malecon, the area is quieter, and since we are on a dead-end street, there are no cars just passing by. We recently did a major remodel which included totally gutting and updating both of the bathrooms, buying new furniture and beds, purchasing new kitchen appliances and washer & drier. Since we bought this place primarily for ourselves, we like to keep the place looking as good as possible so we can just relax and have fun when we are there.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I have to tell you that the place I stayed in was amazing! Sometimes you're a little weary of choosing a place over the net, but the accommodations were great! The pictures didn't do the place justice! I'd come back in a heartbeat!

Great stay, great location

  • 4 of 5

This is a terrific place to stay and a very pleasant condo complex. The rooftop patio and shared pool deck were nice spots to hang out and relax. We loved the location...perfect for our tastes. Just outside the noise and bustle of the tourist zones, but everything within easy walking distance (or at least a cheap cab ride). A caution: the condo is up a rather steep hill/staircase, that can be quite the trek. The views were obscured by the large hotel in front of the condo, and the street out front was a bit off-putting with dilapidated cars and garbage heaped on the corner, but this is an authentic Mexican neighborhood. People greeted us with smiles and we always felt safe coming and going. The condo itself was clean, nicely decorated, and the beds very comfortable. I would not hesitate to stay again.

My Favorite Vacation Spot

  • 5 of 5

Here I am again at my favorite vacation spot. So lovely and relaxing at the pool....except when my boys decide we need to go for brunch, then shopping, to the beach, and did I mention shopping, dinner, cocktails, a performance, and an evening walk along the Malecon. The Malecon is within walking distance from the Condo where I love to sit with a cup of coffee at a restaurant and watch all the activity of people and sand artists creating statues on the beach; oh, speaking of artists, I have to strongly disagree with a previous review. I realize that "art is in the eye of the beholder" but, seriously, the artwork is shown in three (3) different photos on the "Property Listing."

Wall Artwork needs to be changed for Guests

  • 2 of 5

We arrived at the condo by taxi and Francisco met us and showed us around. He Led us into the condo and we were caught off guard and by surprise as to the Artwork on the Walls. I would go as far as to say that we found it very offensive and we were very glad we had not brought our grand-children with us as the Artwork is Not Child Appropriate. My sister and brother-in-law joined us for the last week and they had the Exact Same Reaction to the Artwork before we said anything about it. We own vacation rentals in Hawaii and when renting out a condo the Furnishings and Artwork need to be chosen with the Guests in Mind. If the condo wasn't being rented out then it would not matter and it would be to the owners preference and Taste. Other than that the condo was comfortable for our needs. They do have an "Ant" Issue but that is common in warm climates.

The roads up to it are very steep and cobblestoned streets. We walked down every day but took a Taxi Back up. We stayed 3 weeks at this condo.

Owner's Response: We are saddened and somewhat surprised by this review. The artwork is featured prominently in the photos for our condo. These pieces of original artwork are by renowned Puerto Vallarta photo-realist painter Patrick Donoun. Up until now we have only received positive comments about the art since they are such amazing pieces. I am saddened to feel that our renters felt uncomfortable, but feel that we hid nothing. This is not a business for us. This is our second home which we rent out for some of the year. We do try to make this clear in the way we present our condo and in our follow up communications. As for the ants, this is always just seasonal occurrence, as it is across all of Puerto Vallarta, and not an ongoing issue.

Looking forward to my next trip

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriend and I have made three previous trips to this wonderful condo and plan on several more. So pleasantly surprised with both bathroom renovations. The granite and unique sink and amazing rain shower. And new furniture. Of course, going up to the roof in the evening, watching the spectacular sunset and fireworks from the pirate ship and enjoying a cocktail was lovely; after a hectic day of shopping and restaurants because it is all so

convenient . So happy to be able to vacation in this great condo.

We want to go back

  • 5 of 5

We loved the condo so much that our plans are to go back. Everything was perfect! No negative comments at all on this property. From the very first minute to our departure (all the month of February 2015) we enjoyed the well equipped kitchen, all the commodities included, the sun deck, the pool, the sun roof, the caretaker, the cleaning lady, the neighbours, the proximity of restaurants, groceries, etc.. Prior to our arrival, the owners sent us pages of information and contacts which were very usefull. While in Puerto, we visited friends and we can tell that their place wasn't like ours at all, it was better a lot better at Ibiza- unit 4.

Sad to leave...

  • 5 of 5

I travelled to Puerto Vallarta for two weeks, on my own, to study Spanish at the nearby Solexico school. This apartment was perfect for me. Though I only needed one bedroom, the extra expense was absolutely worth the feeling of autonomy and security. As mentioned in earlier reviews, the complex is small - shared with 4 other units and the neighbours were friendly and inclusive. I went to learn Spanish and I left with new friends - they were often gathered around the pool and I was invited to dinner a couple of times by this lovely group of people. If you are looking for solitude around the pool, this may not be your best choice - but if you like the company of friendly, warm and inviting folks, you'll be very happy you came.

The caretaker and cleaning woman kept the place in perfect condition. The pictures show the unit like it is. The stairs up are pretty steep, but I enjoyed the walk to and from the school, Basillio Badillo and the Malecon. Those with bad knees might not.

All my communications with Philip were seamless - not a problem to be had anywhere along the way. I can't recommend this apartment enough.
