About Ellon Jarvis
We live next door so we are available quickly if the guests need anything. Have friendly Brittany dog who is the official greeter of guests.
Ellon Jarvis purchased this Cottage in 2000
Why Ellon Jarvis chose Maple Heights-Lake Desire
It made sense to buy it when it finally came up for sale. As mentioned, it's right next door, and we loved the property. Lots of work and love went into making the cottage what it is today.
What makes this Cottage unique

We had one of the best weekends ever! This is an amazing place, so beautiful and peaceful.
While I typically don’t stay at places where the owner lives next door, I may rethink that after our stay. Ellon and Scott offered top notch hospitality and were incredibly friendly yet unobtrusive. They are so kind and we left feeling like we had made new friends. The place is beautiful and well cared for, worth it for the views alone! You will be stunned by the view of Rainier overlooking this gorgeous lake. I was lucky enough to see beavers and an otter while kayaking! Fishing was good too and our dog made a new swimming friend in Bart. The place is clean and well stocked by these thoughtful owners. The basket of pastries was much appreciated and demolished! We had everything we needed and more. The only thing keeping this darling cottage from being perfect is the stairs which are rather steep. We had a comfortable and relaxing weekend and plan to go back very soon. Highly recommended! Thank you Ellon and Scott! Look forward to seeing you again soon! Jen and Rob
Jen and Rob were wonderful guests. As she said, I feel like we made new friends. Our dog made a great new friend with their pup, Snickers. So much fun.
They saw more of the wildlife that the lake had to offer, and that was great. The otter is not seen by many, they are so secretive, but they did show themselves this time!
We definitely want a return visit from them, and we would recommend them to any other host. The cabin was left immaculate-and they were very respectful of everything. I wish they could have stayed longer!
We have been staying for the last 4 years in the summer, & just love it.
Close to our kids & grand kids, great grand kids.
Jim and Nancy are like family now. As well as their children and their families. We love having them stay. They are very respectful of the property and when they check out it is in the same contrition as when they checked in. Definitely recommend them as guests!
Wonderful lakeside experience!! Beautiful view, gorgeous garden! Would stay again!
This place is as described, and better! We stayed for 9 nights in May, and wished for longer. The owners live next door, but keep their distance unless you have questions...and then they are very helpful! They stock the place so well with all kinds of things we haven’t found at other properties; it was very much like being at home. We were lucky it only rained our last day, so the view of Mt. Rainier was breathtaking each day. It was even warm enough for me to take a quick swim one of the days! It’s a short distance to stores, and the drive into Seattle was good, too. The lawn is perfect, and the garden, too. Oh!! ..the snacks...are delicious! It would be hard to be disappointed with this place.
Thank you for the wonderful review. You were great guests, and you did luck out with the weather. Spring around here can be fabulous or not so fabulous.
I am so happy you spent time taking in the sights our beautiful Pacific Northwest has to offer. You will have to see the rest on a return visit. We would love to have you as guests again!
A blessed escape!
My April 2018 stay was incredible! The view, amenities and quiet were quite relaxing and restorative to my soul. Ellon and Scott were wonderful and attentive hosts. They made sure I had what I needed without being intrusive. It was peaceful and quiet; just what I needed!
The cottage is well stocked with everything I could ever need and Maple Valley was close for stocking up on supplies and groceries when needed.
The view, both from the living area and bedroom, were incredible. It was peaceful looking out on the lake, both in rain and sun. On those really nice days, it was nice to sit in the lounger by the lake or on one of benches up on the lawn. I spent many an hour looking out on the lake, watching the fish jump, the water fowl play and the eagles soar.
Definitely a great place to escape to! Only wish I could have stayed longer. ;-) Highly recommend for a personal retreat or a couple's getaway.
Lori was a delight to have as a guest! It was hard to remember that she was there, as she was so quiet.
most guests leave the cottage in terrific shape, so it's hard to find an adjective to describe how she left it: Pristine and fantastic come to mind. We could hardly find evidence that she had been there.
I would highly recommend her as a guest for any host out there.
Need to be near Seattle? This is the place!
I wanted to spend a couple of months near grandchildren, but didn't want to be in the city. This is it! Close to everything, but only the sounds of ducks and the breeze off of the lake. Close to multiple trails for walking my dog off leash. This little cottage gives the visitor the impression they are in a country setting, while only 45 minutes to Seattle, Puyallup, and Bellevue. The owners are very friendly, helpful, but not obtrusive. I can't say enough good things about this little place. Whether you want a weekend getaway from the city or need a place for a few weeks, this is it! Dee
Thank you so much for the kind comments! We enjoyed having both of you, and of course Sofie as our guests. Hardly knew you were there. Hope to have you stay with us again!
Feels like home quality, special getaway
This cabin is amazing! We didn’t want to ever leave it in the morning or evenings. The lake faces Mtn Rainier, and my boyfriend and I spent NYE indoors, with chocolate covered frozen bananas and a little bottle of prosecco. There are a few firework sounds but my yorkie only woke up twice. This area is beautiful and Ellon Jarvis feels like family! <3 we loved her and wished we could have met her hubby Scott but he was away on work travel. This place and rental is worth every penny and we are glad qe chose it and the serenity we found here will take us into 2018 with joy and love and happiness ! We call it the retreat “ a slice heaven in the Northwest.” We even were given a welcome platter of food when we arrived and they made sure we had everything we needed, and we didnt even have to ask. Felt so comfortable and like kings and queens. I recommend this place to anyone wanting to get away from the bustle of life! Until next time Maple Valley, we will miss you!
We loved Margo, Matt and Mia. My Brittany especially loved Mia! I would love to have them back absolutely anytime-the cottage was left in such a pristine condition. They were wonderful guests. Recommend them to anyone.
