Eastside Pied De Terre Overlooking Canyon Road's Hotspots

Bedrooms 2
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

This exquisite, whimsical, cozy, romantic, 'casita,' is a stone’s throw from Canyon Road’s hottest restaurants, bars and galleries, yet the property is extremely private, quiet and safe...

Architecturally, this rental embodies everything you dream of when you think of Santa Fe, with high ceilings, vigas, latillas, flagstone floors (with radiant heat), an awesome free-standing kiva fireplace, and a sunny outside breakfast nook under a towering tree of heaven!

This guest house has an open floor plan with a king bed in the LARGE upstairs loft/bedroom and a queen bed downstairs. The bathroom door is the only door inside the house, so this rental is best suited for an individual, a couple, a couple with kids, or family/couples/friends without boundary issues!

This is a two-story house with stairs, so it's not ideal for people with small children or for individuals that cannot climb a set of stairs (no wheelchair access).

If this rental doesn't suit your needs, check out our larger Santa Fe VRBO rental #310729 next door.

Also, check out our funky Taos VRBO rental #279314 hidden up in the mountains! We book combination Santa Fe/Taos rentals if you're interested!

About The Owner

I'm a SF realtor (11 years) with Santa Fe Properties. My husband, daughter and I split our time between Santa Fe and Taos. This is the perfect counter-balance to our Taos mountain escape (which we also rent #279314).

Why The Owner chose Santa Fe

We've lived on the historic east side for 20 years. We were always looking for the perfect location that offered both privacy proximity and classic santa fe style...

What makes this house unique

Privacy, style and location...

Great spot to get away

  • 5 of 5

This casita is ideally located near Canyon Road, but is quiet and is off a residential street in the eastside Historic District. The pictures on the website are not enough to get the full impact of this sweet spot. I would not hesitate to return! It was very clean and well-appointed, including internet access and iPod docking station!

charming casita!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this charming casita. All descriptions are that and more.

Owners have upgraded sofa and upstairs linens, so pictures are bit dated. It's even better!Adobe architecture, quiet neighborhood, Canyon Rd. convenience, etc. 2 nights were quite chilly and we loved having a fire in the fun! We love the whimsical décor and details. It's hard to recommend activities, attractions and restaurants, there are so many! We stayed for 8 days and enjoyed the most we could squeeze in and it was all so memorable. Owners were a delight to work with and live right next door. Definitely would stay again when in Santa Fe!

We Loved This New Mexican Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We loved this place so much we extended our stay from five weeks to eight weeks. It was comfortable, cozy, spacious and luxurious all wrapped up in one beautiful open two bedroom guest house. The adobe architecture with the stairs wrapping around the fireplace? The fully-equipped kitchen? The comfortable furniture and beds? The full bath with full stacked washer and dryer? The dimmable lights throughout the house? So much attention to detail, we counted our blessings every single day we were there. And the hosts are perfect neighbors - respectful, helpful, quiet and friendly. The open layout with the loft was a great setup for us, but you do have some house noise (fridge and water heater) as a result. We were fine with that. The neighborhood is so quiet at night, and a perfect location adjacent to art-filled Canyon Rd. When we return to Santa Fe someday, not only do we hope the guest house is available - we might return because of it!

Great location, beautiful rental, needs some minor changes

  • 4 of 5

We found this lovely casita easily using our GPS, it is located on a residential street not far from the plaza and very close to Canyon Road galleries. There was parking for our rental car just outside the unit. The unit is 2 stories, when you walk in you are in the larger of the 2 bedrooms. It is large and beautifully appointed. Down the pretty staircase are the eat in kitchen (very well equipped), living room, bathroom, second bedroom, great fireplace (there was plenty of firewood for our use but no matches), and access to a wonderful outside patio area. One problem we found was that we wanted to stay in the larger bedroom upstairs (there was much more clothing storage upstairs) but the bathroom was downstairs. It seemed inconvenient to go downstairs to the bathroom if needed in the middle of the night. So we stayed in the smaller bedroom downstairs and went upstairs to get our clothes as needed, Soon after we arrived, we were leaving the unit and met one of the owners outside. We chatted and told him some of the light bulbs needed replacing, especially one over the only full length mirror in the unit in the upper bedroom. He took the unit with the burned out bulb, but unfortunately it was never fixed during our stay. There were several other lights out as well. We also went to put some items in the washing dryer in the unit (very convenient) and there was other laundry in the dryer, I guess from the cleaning or care after the last occupants. The downstairs bedroom was also a little drafty, even after closing the small window the owners had left open slightly for us. The bathroom is small, the sink is quite small, no room to stash bathroom stuff. There is a small cabinet in the bathroom which we used to put our stuff, and it's drawers were nicely stocked with necessities. We really enjoyed the fireplace each evening and the living room area was quite spacious and comfortable. It would have been nice to have a tv in the bedroom as well.

The kitchen is really lovely and had everything we needed.

Overall it was a nice stay and just a few annoying things prompted the 4 star rating.

This place was just perfect.

Put on your favorite Carlos Nakai album and your chunkiest silver and torquoise bolo tie, and conjure up your most pinon scented, green chile flavored fantasy of what a Sante Fe vacation ought to be, and this Eastside casita would fit in perfectly. As other reviewers have suggested, the pictures don't really do the house justice. This place has it all, from the peeled log vigas, to the cozy radiant heat from the flagstone floor, to the free standing kiva fireplace with pinon firewood, to the rustic Mexican furnishings. The kitchen is well appointed, with all the cooking implements that you might want, dishes that match the decor, and an intelligently selected collection of cooking essentials (oils, spices, etc.)

But why would you want to cook? Acequia Madre is about 100 feet off the eastern end of lower Canyon Road, so you're a 7 minute walk from either world class dining at Geronomio or breakfast at the Tea House, or a few minutes farther if you want some tapas and sangria at El Farol.

My wife and I spent 3 nights in 939 1/2 Acequia Madre over Christmas. The owners are perfect hosts - friendly but not intrusive. The casita was the perfect location for taking in the Christmas Eve farolito walk along Canyon Road and Acequia Madre. Wandering Santa Fe at Christmas with the crunch of snow, the sparkling winter stars, and the scent of pinon smoke was better knowing that we had such a cute and cozy little home base where we could relax and warm up next to the fire with a cup of tea or hot chocolate and a good book. I have always wanted to spend Christas in Santa Fe, and this place was a huge part of a memorable, once-in-a-lifetrime trip.

I've visited Santa Fe every other year or so since I honeymooned there in 2001. I've stayed at several of the well-known hotels, and a couple other vacation rentals. In the future, I will be staying here if it's available.
