Our rental property is the perfect urban getaway in a premier location within the Wallingford neighborhood. It has a walk score of 86/100. The house was built in 1916, has been completely remodeled and includes 1540 square feet of spacious, charming and bright living space. The property is primarily a weekend rental, as we live and work in Seattle during the week. Only rarely do we use our car during the week.
The property has hardwood floors throughout. The first floor includes the following: Living area with a 60” HD TV (with cable, Showtime, and Netflix) and DVD player; Treadmill; Dining area with a large table and seating for 6; Fully equipped kitchen with a dishwasher, stove-oven, microwave and refrigerator; Half bath; A 5th person could sleep on the couch, which is quite comfortable. However, it is NOT a sleeper sofa.
The second floor has 2 extra-large bedrooms. One bedroom has a queen bed, a walk-in closet and a Juliet balcony (serenade anyone?). The other bedroom has a king size bed with a small desk area and book shelves. Both beds have high quality sheets and the mattresses are quite comfortable. Both bedrooms have portable air conditioning, for warm summer nights. There is a full bath, including a soaking tub with jets.
There is a washer and dryer in the unfinished basement. There is a private fenced in backyard with a grill and table and chairs for 6. The front porch has two chairs for reading or relaxing. There is dedicated parking on the driveway, although one must be cautious pulling into the driveway, as there is a fire hydrant on the very edge of the driveway. Quiet well-trained dogs are welcome for an additional fee.
If you are not familiar with Wallingford, you will be delighted. Within a ½ mile radius, there are dozens of restaurants and cafes, shops, 2 grocery stores (Trader Joe’s and QFC), and 3 movie theaters. The Gas Works Park, on the north shore of Lake Union with a gorgeous view of downtown Seattle and the Space Needle, is a 1.3 mile walk. The University of Washington and University District are within a mile to the east, the popular neighborhood of Fremont is 1 mile to the west (where Theo’s Chocolate Factory is located), and the Burke Gilman Trail, with almost 19 miles of dedicated trail for walking, running and biking, is within walking distance to the south. Green Lake and the Woodland Park Zoo are 2 miles to the northwest. Green Lake has a 3 mile walking path, boat rentals, swimming, and a wading pool for young children in the summer, as well as an off-leash dog park, tennis courts and a 9-hole golf course. Downtown Seattle, with Pike Place Market and the Space Needle, is 4-5 miles south with an express bus just a few blocks from the house. Lastly, Meridian Playground is about 8 blocks west. The property is located just 1-2 minutes from I-5, although the location is surprising quiet. Multiple bus routes are within walking distance. Safeco (Seattle Mariners) and Century Link (Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Sounders) fields are south of downtown. You can make a day trip to Mount Rainier or Mount St. Helens.
