About Kay Ridgeway
Our parents owned a small cabin at Lake Arrowhead, providing a great escape from the L.A. area, during many idyllic summer weeks and during Christmas break. Lake Arrowhead holds many nostalgic memories for our family and so this became the ideal location for us to buy and renovate our lakefront home, providing years of fun when we had our own children years later.
Kay Ridgeway purchased this House in 1998
Why Kay Ridgeway chose Village Bay
Being very familiar with Lake Arrowhead, we focused on the Arrowhead Woods area. It is not as windy on this side of the lake and easy access to the village was important. The sun exposure is terrific! We also knew to avoid a steep, winding entry area so that snow during the winter months would not restrict our access. We live in Orange County now, so in just 90 minutes, we have door-to-door access to all the Lake Arrowhead fun available during the different seasons of the year. Like so many vacation homes, we no longer visit as often as when the children were younger, so providing access to responsible vacation tenants makes perfect sense.
What makes this House unique
We loved the location and the 'potential' of our charming mountain home from the start. After an extensive 2 year remodel, we modernized all the appliances, added bedrooms/bathrooms, customized fixtures and lighting, but ALSO retained the intrinsic charm of a mountain cabin. Check out our photos and see for yourself if this home doesn't look spacious, but also cozy!

FRAMILY Fun at the Lake!
Our group has made a tradition of going to Lake Arrowhead over the last 5 years during Labor Day weekend. We have camped at North Shore, Dogwood, and now have stayed in 2 different cabins. We really enjoyed the Ridgeway cabin, it is a beautiful location with so much to offer and Kay is really easy to work with and answer questions. The five bedrooms were perfect for our large group and the kids loved the game room, along with all the fun board games throughout the house. We utilized the dock with paddle boards and kayaks. We had FRAMILY dinners on the large spacious deck and enjoyed the lake view. The cabin is close to all the restaurants and shops, we walked to the Lake Arrowhead Village each day. Our group made reservations and went to breakfast at Belgian Waffle Works and strolled around looking at vendors selling items. This cabin is in the perfect location. All of the adults and kids in our group had such a nice time. We hope to stay there again in the future.
Best summer getaway ever!!
Our family had a magical time at our annual family retreat! This was our second time staying with Kay, and our 25th year at the lake. We can’t wait to come back and stay even longer next summer! Kay keeps a beautiful, clean house that is perfect for several generations- privacy and quiet for the older folks and plenty of space for playing cards, billiards and games upstairs. We spend most of our time on the patio overlooking the lake or at the dock swimming and kayaking. At night we walk to the village for drinks or dinner. We highly recommend this property- best location and great property!
The house was nice but needs decluttering. It makes it look a bit dirty. Also, our biggest complaint is that the owners make you take the trash to a dumpster in the area which got us a lot of dirty looks. I know this is illegal in our area. A five bedroom, 5 bath room home holds a lot of people. There is a lot of trash. Every other VRBO we have stayed at in Lake Arrowhead or any where else, provide trash cans on the property. I think this is not something the owners should be cheaping out on for $745 a night!
Thank you for your review and comments Debra. We HAVE collected quite a few decor items and curios over the years. Most of our guests have found that to be part of the “charm” rather than overly cluttered. But I respect your different perception about this. Unfortunately the trash pick up would SEEM like an easy fix but curbside pick up is only on Tues mornings, and most of our guests arrive on Fri-Sat. Therefore they arrived to full barrels from the previous guests. Full barrels can bring odors, ants, and other critters, and all of this became more of an annoyance than a convenience to our guests. That is why we switched back to clean mountain service and provide 4 different options for trash disposal. I am sorry if this felt like an I convenience to you. Thanks again for your comments. ~ Kay
Wonderful Summertime Vacation Home!
This was our second stay in this wonderful lakeside home. Our favorite place to spend time was on the dock. We stayed out on the kayaks and paddle boards until 7:00 p.m.!! It was great! It does get a bit toasty on the bottom floor of the house, but there is a/c on upper floor and in detached apartment. We also enjoy sitting on the patio (shaded) and with a nice view of the lake. The walking trail is just an easy path down from the patio. Kay is a joy to deal with. Any questions we had, she was always available with a quick response. We will definitely consider coming a third time!!
All 11 of us such a wonderful time celebrating our 60th anniversary.
The house was very roomy with 5 bedrooms and bathrooms. We all enjoyed sitting on the beautiful deck over looking the lake! Also enjoyed the dock with the Kayaks and stand up boards. They were so much fun. Overall, our vacation could not have been better!!!
Loved the stay
A great place to stay to experience Lake Arrowhead and everything in the Village.
This home is ideally located for year-round enjoyment!! If your visit is during the summer, you can literally walk just 200 yards (no hills) to enter the quaint Lake Arrowhead Village for boutique shopping, wine-tasting, groceries, outlet shopping (Coach, Bass, Jockey, Pendleton and others), or dine in one of several restaurants. Casual dining favorites: Papagayo's Mexican Restaurant, Woody's Diner, Belgian Waffle House, McDonald's, Subway, or the Pizza & Arcade family fun center. Finer dining: Bin 189 Restaurant in the Lake Arrowhead Hilton Spa and Resort, just a 3 minute drive from the home. Take time to use their daily-fee fitness center or get a relaxing massage in their spa. Shop for groceries at the Stater Bros supermarket, located on the top level of the village. Prefer to drive to the village? No problem. There is plenty of parking available in the village and a well-serviced elevator provides easy access to the market and other shops on the upper level. There is a Bank of America ATM within the village as well as several other specialty shops too numerous to mention. Stroll around and see what's of interest to you and your friends/family. If you want to catch a movie, it's just a 5 minute drive to neighboring Blue Jay Cinema, where other restaurants and shopping are also available.
Fun on the lake: Take the Arrowhead Dixieland Queen for an informational tour of the lake and shoreline. Want more activity? Water ski with McKenzie's Water Ski School, located at the lower level of the village along the shoreline. Go for a refreshing swim near the shoreline. Be mindful to stay within the 5mph buoy zone and beware of boaters pulling out of their docks. Fishing is permitted only with a valid California Fishing License, but the lake is plentiful with Bass. Play horseshoes right in the front yard of our home. Take a short or longer hike around the perimeter of the lake on a well-maintained foot path.
If your stay is during the wintertime, enjoy snowboarding or snow skiing at Snow Valley Mountain Resort (20 minute drive) or more advanced runs available at Snow Summit or Bear Mountain in Big Bear (45 minute drive). Bring your own equipment or rent directly from the resort. Half and full day passes are available and all these facilities offer great food, drink, and lessons if desired. Check their websites or call for current snow conditions and pricing. (Contact information is provided at the home upon your arrival in a notebook in the living room). Be prepared- have a 4-wheel drive vehicle or snow tires/chains as needed. Our home is located at an elevation of 5,200 feet and, while weather predictions are unreliable, it generally snows every year. Build snowmen in the front yard, go inner tubing or sledding if you prefer not to hit the slopes. VERY IMPORTANT BENEFIT TO OUR HOME'S LOCATION: Easy access by foot to the village and level entry from Hwy 173, which is continually snow plowed during the winter months.
