About Julie Gaskill & Dick Carter
We are midwesterners who moved to Seattle after living in France for seven years. We crisscrossed the country, and chose Seattle over every other place we visited. It's a wonderful city full of bookstores, theaters, coffeehouses, restaurants, friendly people and imagination. This is a beautiful city that is seriously into food and the outdoors. Ask us about the many bakeries, pubs and and restaurants that are just a few minutes' drive (or 10-20 minutes' walk) away, and the many opportunities for outdoor recreation.
Julie Gaskill & Dick Carter purchased this Apartment in 1997
Why Julie Gaskill & Dick Carter chose Wedgwood
We chose NE Seattle because despite its proximity to downtown (6 miles), it is full of older-growth trees and wildlife. We've seen great blue herons and bald eagles on our street. We're only 4 minutes' walk from the direct bus to U. of Washington and downtown, and a mile from the express lanes on I-5 South. We walk our sweet mini-poodle Louie through our gorgeous Wedgwood neighborhood almost every day.
What makes this Apartment unique
The Garden Studio is a separate, private building in a beautifully planted, fully fenced yard. Both the Garden and Studio are designed for optimal light, with almost all lamps dimmable in the Studio, blinds that open from top or bottom, multiple windows with transoms, and two skylights. The Garden Studio features a new, quiet heating and air-conditioning unit, screened windows that can let in a breeze, multiple patios to relax, glide or swing in a hammock, and a fully equipped cook's kitchen. You can drive, take Shuttle Express or taxi to NE Seattle from the airport in 1/2 hour (20 miles), or take Metro Link Light Rail to the downtown University Street Station (40 min.), then the 312 or 522 bus North (40 min.), then 4-10 minutes' walk to The Garden Studio. We hope you enjoy your stay.

We were totally impressed!
The Garden Studio had to be the most beautiful place we have stayed while in Seattle. The surrounding garden was budding and peaceful. The inside was beautifully laid out and every potential need was provided for; the kitchen had everything a cook could possibly need. The bathroom floor was such a surprise and delight, the shower great and plenty of soft, fluffy towels. The entire ambience was comfy and cozy -- we just loved it! Since we were visiting family for the holidays the only local restaurant we went to was the Cafe Javasti for breakfast on our last day -- both the coffee and food were delicious. Julie and Dick were gracious hosts.
cozy, comfortable studio
very comfortable studio plenty of room, comfortable bed. great kitchen with any type of utensil, etc. you can think of. full size stove/oven, microwave and toaster oven. several ways to make coffee and frothed milk. quiet neighborhood, included parking. bathroom has heated floor, was great in the AM. it was a great place to stay, warm (we had snow our first morning) absolutely no negatives. a 10+ rating from us.
Perfect for us
The accommodations are excellent. Julie and Dick provide a comfortable garden studio with seemingly everything one might need.
This sweet little garden studio has been artfully decorated to be a relaxing and delightful retreat.
We had a most wonderful stay at the garden studio where we enjoyed the zen like decor and mood of the Wedgewood retreat. Do not hesitate to book this lovely place. It sparkles with cleanliness. Your every need has been anticipated and most likely planned for. I loved the warmth of the radiant heat in the bathroom floors morning and night. The lovely skylights bring in light and the pitter patter of the rain. The talent of the owner/artist apparent in several impressive pieces of art on the walls. Oh did I mention the beautiful garden area - must be outstanding in the spring/summer. I have no need to look for another place for future rental needs. If I ever need a place in Seattle again I will first look to see if this place is available. Kudos to Julie and Dick for providing an amazing place like this for people to rent.
The Garden Studio was a delightful place for our month-long stay, the nicest of four HomeAway properties we have used in Seattle. It offers quiet privacy in a well-appointed suite, conveniently located for our purposes. Julie and Dick are exemplary hosts; they were prompt and gracious in responding to our inquiries. Everything is comfortable - furniture, linens for bed/kitchen/bath, lighting, power for devices. Using the kitchen was an important part of our stay; it met our needs for meals and holiday baking. Easy access to laundry facilities was a definite plus, given the length of our stay. Even in winter, the outside is beautiful, but we look forward to coming back in the spring, when we will have an opportunity to enjoy the outdoor amenities of this wonderful place.
Perfect, perfect, perfect!
What a lovely find! A perfect gem; well thought out, comfortable with everything one could possibly need. The accomodations are immacate, functional and beautifully decorated.
Dick was lovely, attentive when I needed help and yet I enjoyed my privacy.
Loved my stay here and will definitely be back!
The Garden Studio is on a quiet, dead-end street and has free parking in our driveway. It is only several minutes' drive from swimming beaches on Lake Washington, scenic walking/biking trails, an attractive outdoor shopping center (U. Village), several farmers markets, and a wide range of restaurants. Nearby are Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and several PCCs, the largest consumer-owned natural food co-op in the country. Their food is locally sourced, organic, and extremely fresh. The deli serves delicious, healthy food for take-out. Try the cashew chicken salad or the cheesy chalupas.
