About Judith Ronning
My grandparents were settlers here, in the winter I often wonder why they stopped here. But in the summer, you forget about the long winters and enjoy the beautiful lake, the cool evenings and all the birds and wildlife. The cry of the loons in the evenings is unforgettable. Eagles soaring overhead, a beautiful sight. The beavers swimming by, looking for more tender trees. One morning I awoke and they had taken my apple tree, a crab apple tree and a sugar maple! Now I plant my fruit trees far from the lake shore. I love gardening! Every time a birch tree died, a new garden was birthed in the rich soil. We love people and we love sharing this special spot with our guests who quickly become our friends.
Judith Ronning purchased this Cabin in 1982
Why Judith Ronning chose Cook
My husband's father bought this land back in the 50's. So we sit nestled in on land between his brother's and his sister's. It is a quiet haven, tucked in behind an island in a little bay. Years ago before everyone had GPS's, boats would come flying through here, thinking they were heading for TimBucTu and the Narrows but these days it is quiet. On opening fishing though there are always 4-5 boats in our little bay. Most of the summer we have fishing boats out front. One only needs to row out a ways in our 16-foot rowboat, available to our guests, and go fishing with the best of them!
What makes this Cabin unique
"So peaceful," that is the comment we often hear as people step through the breezeway and see the setting, the gardens and Lake Vermilion. The breezeway is a comfortable sheltered spot to observe the lake, make and enjoy dinners on the grill. And everyone goes for the swing chair. "Room with a View," that was the name of a movie and I feel like that is what best describes our guest quarters, an awesome view from every window.

Cozy Lakside View
Though the cabin wasn’t incredibly spacious, the cozy secluded lakeside view, is exactly what we wanted for our honeymoon. We had a great time and were very pleased.
Amazing spot for our fishing getaway!
We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay for our fishing getaway. The boat access was super close and our boat was always protected at their dock during rough water. We fished all over and caught our biggest fish not too far from the house. We loved that we could cook up breakfast, head out for a long day on the water, and return to relax in the sauna. The place is beautiful and Judith is the nicest person! Hope to be back soon.
Was just fantastic. Beautiful view of the lake and even had a deer out the dining window.
Everything was excellent at the property. Had everything you needed. The bed was a little soft for us. The owner was more than helpful. Would recommend this to anyone. Just very nice clean and fun place. Thanks Judith.
Great vacation rental
Everything was just as described. Very clean cabin with nice hosts. Beautiful lake property! We loved our time here!
This was our second time at Josante Shores, and we loved it just as before...especially the raspberry picking!
Only two suggestions for the future: a small towel bar or loop in the bathroom, and a privacy curtain (lift-off?) between the bedroom and the kitchen.
So glad you “Loved it!” Again! I have been planning on making a privacy curtain and will get on it this fall! I have a wooden towel bar loop which I will install!
Thank you for your review and for choosing Josante Shores!
Welcome respite from city life! Hop in a kayak and explore!
Lovely lodgings (even the dishes are beautiful), picturesque setting, friendly (but not intrusive) hosts. It was perfect for us, a retired couple. We made use of the canoe -- the property is on a private little bay protected by an island, so it's fine to canoe & kayak even though the lake itself is huge. Kids can even kayak out to the island; it's not far! NOTE: There's a skylight in both rooms, so if you need darkness in the morning, bring eyeshades.
