Friendly, clean and cozy

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay in early April. Even got some sunshine! Dan and Linda were friendly and helpful, and the apartment was well appointed, had comfortable beds, and was generally a quiet cozy place to stay. Would stay here again, for sure! Thanks for the great stay!

THE place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

I came to the area for a short surprise visit for my son's promotion. He lives in North Pole so I wanted to stay nearby, while giving him, his wife, and baby some space in their own home. The Flying Duck fit the bill for convenience to them. However, when they move on post, my future visits will probably involve more driving and less convenience for me because this is the place I intend to come back to!

This is a very peaceful property, and I didn't take advantage of all the amenities. It is an over-the-garage apartment (stairs could be a concern for people who have a hard time with them), but you would hardly believe it! Beautiful inside, very tastefully done. This place is definitely not furnished with flea marker finds as I've experienced at other rentals. Lovely furniture (in fact I've taken pix so I can purchase similar pieces), excellent woodwork in the cabinetry. Plenty of super hot water (although the shower head may be a bit low for taller folk, it's perfectly adequate). Both bedrooms stay blacked out very well - we were here during the never-ending daylight. I wish I had had time to have a fire in the pit looking over Chena Slough! Lots of ducks to watch at all hours.

I slept in the master bedroom - most comfortable bed in a rental I've ever stayed in. No cable or satellite, but lots of DVDs and VHS - not an issue for me. I read all the other reviews about the pan of brownies Linda leaves for her guests. I thought, "Oh, that's nice", but figured - they're brownies, what's the big deal? Well, everyone is right! Thickest fudgiest BEST brownies ever! And a welcome sight when I wake up at 0530 and the Country Cafe (fantastic breakfast spot in NP) doesn't open until 0800! My only negative thing to say is so minor it's almost not worth mentioning - no sugar for the coffee (only the yellow packet fake stuff). If I didn't have to wait so long for the Countrt Cafe to open it wouldn't have even been an issue. And I could've easily picked up some sugar at the store but it wasn't that big of a deal (just thought Linda would like to know).

I never saw Linda during my trip but she checked in with me regularly and was easy to contact. I've stayed in a few dozen VRBO and AirBnB type properties over the years and this has been my favorite. Clean, quiet, comfortable, and convenient. I will be back!

Quaint rental close to Fairbanks

  • 5 of 5

We loved this place and likely we will stay again. We are family from Anchorage, with a toddler (3.5 yr old), traveling with a friend from NC. It was our friend's first time to visit Fairbanks. Owners are very friendly and accommodating. Rental was exceptionally clean and well stocked with cooking items. The rental overlooks a creek and we saw moose from the entryway. Pellet stove was easy to use and was a nice touch to making the place feel cosy when it was snowing outside. Nice place, about 5 minute drive to North Pole and 30-mins to Fairbanks.

Peaceful and Pretty

  • 5 of 5

It sits on a creek with gorgeous sunsets. The rental is pristine with nice furnishings and very comfortable beds. It is well-equipped and even has bottled water provided with a pan of brownies. WOW! The rental is a good distance from Fairbanks, which we found as a plus. It just took 15 minutes to get to Fairbanks. If you like the "in town noise" then this peace and quiet may not be for you. There is no cable TV, but there is a TV with movies and games. It feels like it is brand new and is above a garage, so there are a few stairs. The owners are personable and helpful and are very nice people. A person does not find many rentals that are this clean, well-decorated, and cozy. Anyone would be happy here.

Cozy places, good for aurora viewing

  • 5 of 5

It is a very cozy and spacious place. Plus it is close to some aurora viewing area(Chena lake), and when it is strong, you can see it from the back door.

We visited in Oct 6th 2016 weekend, we saw aurora in all three nights during our trip and twice at the house. (but you probably want to drive to more remote area to have a better view though).

The hosts are super helpful and nice!

Cozy, comfortable and convenient!

  • 5 of 5

Flying Duck was a fantastic place to stay for our weekend Alaskan adventure. Great location to get to northern light viewing spots, Chena Hot Springs, and all the conveniences of North Pole and Fairbanks downtown. I loved the view of the river behind the property, it was very peaceful. Beds and sofas were very comfortable, and overall the unit was immaculately clean and well prepared. Bottles of water and pan of brownies were waiting for us when we got there, which was so welcoming! We met Linda during our stay, and gave us suggestions for places to visit. I'd love to visit Fairbanks again, and Flying Duck will be the obvious choice.
