About Jim and Penny Darr
My husband and I love to travel and entertain. The house was designed with to accommodate our friends and growing family. As the family grows or gets older we get new toys for the lake. We have 2 children, 4 grandchildren- it's all about "Them" Tate, Henry, ELLIOT, Mia. We love our 4 legged friends! Our pride and joy is our 12 year old Yorkie, Lily.
Jim and Penny Darr purchased this House in 1979
Why Jim and Penny Darr chose Big Lake
My husband grew up in Mt. Vernon - the lake house is our summer home. We own a business in Seattle where we spend most of our time. We love the lake just as much in the winter as we do in the summer. Nothing is better than sitting in the hot tub when it's raining watching the ducks, eagles and occasional deer roam the property.
What makes this House unique
Rambler with great views from almost every room. Easy to get around for elderly people. Ask about wheel chair accessible - Large fenced yard easy access to the lake and to keep pets in without worrying about them. The art in the house is from our travels. New for 2018 - Luxury vynal floors throughout the entire house make it easy to clean and air conditioning for those warm summer days.

Everything you need and unexpected delights -- hospitality extraordinaire!
Luxury, practicality, and delight all in one beautiful home! This family space was welcoming, elegant, playful, and well-equipped -- entertaining for our sons and comfortable accessible for our parents.
A smoothly functional kitchen with everything we sought, formal dining settings for ten (and more when we needed!), ready music throughout the house, games and puzzles and activities for all ages... it made our time easy to relax into. Fly fishing on the dock, waterfowl & beavers & eagles to watch, a kegerator for root beer, close to Big Lake Grocery for meals and coffee and supplies -- what more could we ask? I can only imagine summer here!
Penny and Jim were available to answer questions when we reached out, and so thoughtful in advance that we needed to only once. This host is responsive and hospitable, attentive and relaxed -- thank you for the lovely space!
Wonderful home for a lake getaway. Immaculately kept and well stocked. Great location on the upper end of the lake. Would definitely recommend.
Glad you enjoyed your stay.
Perfect lake house rental
A perfect house on Big Lake for your family and friends to enjoy. Our family loved waking up each morning and being able to paddle board and kayak, jumpoff the dock in the afternoon and watch the gorgeous sunsets from their deck. We will definitely be coming back here if we get the chance.
Thank-you! We enjoyed having your family. Your very easy to work with -
Amazing Lake House!!
Our family of 6 (4 adults and 2 children) had a great stay at Big Lake! The views were fantastic, the house was nicely decorated and in a perfect location. We spent most of our time outdoors enjoying the lovely view of the lake, cooking on the Big Green Egg, and kayaking and paddle boarding on the lake. When it got too hot outside, we went in and enjoyed a few of the many board games that they had to offer, or took a walk to the store that was close by to grab a snack. Great memories were made in this house and we definitely would recommend!
Thank-you for the great review! It was a pleasure having you stay at the lake house. The housekeeper could not believe how clean you left the house. I would highly recommend you and your family. Safe Travels, Penny
Amazing house & property. Great family vacation!
We had such a great family vacation at this house on Big Lake. The house is so beautiful and there is so much to do there. We had fun on the paddle boards and kayaks. We brought our boat and went skiing and inner tubing, the water was great and hardly any other boats during the week. Our golden retriever had a great time swimming everyday. We played yard Yahtzee, ate out on the nice deck everyday, went hot tubing, made s'mores by the bon fire, played games at night, saw an amazing view of the moon going down behind the trees through the big telescope in the living room. The house had everything you could think of and more. We've stayed at a lot of different lake houses through the years and this one is by far our favorite. Thank you so much Jim and Penny for sharing your beautiful house!! We've made great memories there. We will surely be back.
Beautiful home and property just a quick trip from Seattle!
We stayed at Jim and Penny's home over Thanksgiving weekend, and boy oh boy was there A LOT to be thankful for! The kitchen was modern, well-stocked, and large enough to accommodate many of us preparing our feast. The double oven was a huge bonus. The living room was a cozy place to curl up after the meal in front of the fire, while kids played games in the other room. The next day the weather was nice enough to take a day trip to Chuckanut Drive and enjoy the gorgeous views. We even braved the cool evening to enjoy a sunset happy hour by the fire pit at the lake. Thank you for sharing this great property! I bet it's even better in the summer, but we couldn't have been happier in November.
