Monticello may have the highest per capita of antique homes in Florida. The business section is in the historic district and has a number of antique shops. Monticello is surrounded by rolling hills, scenic roads and is near Wacissa Springs, an undeveloped spring fed river, offering boating fishing, kyaking, canoeing and swimming Letchworth State Park, 6 miles to the West is the second highest Native American Earth Mound in the SouthEast. Jackson Mounds, another early Native Mound is 20 minutes away.
Tallahassee, Florida's Capital, is 25 miles west, and has three Universities, FSU, FAMU, and TCC, fine dining and entertainment. Thomasville, Ga., is 21 miles, was the end of the railroad in the 19th century and has many beautiful homes and a restored downtown. Pebble Hill Plantation, now a State Park, offers a glimpse into Plantaion Life in the 20th Century.
