My husband and I went in half with my parents to purchase the ocean view home and we LOVE it here at Hatteras Island.
Kimberly Howe purchased this house in 2015
The ocean view!
Great home with views of Atlantic and Pamlico sound, an amazing game room, and the big room at the top!!! Beaches were uncrowded and home provided many amenities, such as beach umbrellas and sand toys.
This is a very nice, comfortable house that unfortunately had a roach infestation in the kitchen when we arrived. The pest company arrived promptly on Monday morning after I complained, but I hope that the home owners understand that it is not enough to spray the outside of the house. Regular inside treatment and monitoring is absolutely necessary in this area. A passing visitor is understandable, but not a colony.
The house was clean and well
Kept. Kitchen stocked with everything we needed. Sleeping space quite. Great Views. Kids enjoyed the game room. Upstairs stayed alittle warm set at 72 degrees. All three families agreed was a fantastic weekend get away.
The property was a beautiful home. Only thing that was hard for me was all the stairs. I have bad ankles.
The property was perfect for us. Gorgeous view and short distance from the Ocean. The house is very beachy and accommodating. We will definitely be back.
Family reunion over spring break for 9 plus a baby. The large room is perfect to spend time in and the beds are very comfortable. Great decor, beach equipment, game cupboard, wifi--really everything you want on vacation was provided. In addition to the four bedrooms, the game room has a queen futon and room to put a pack n play, so there's plenty of space. The kitchen had everything we needed and much of the equipment appeared to be brand new (also super cute dishes!). The large dining table was very nice for a big group. We had some problems at arrival with the door code and missing linens, but Kim was very responsive and we got squared away quickly. The kids' room with the bunk bed got very warm at night so bringing a small fan is a good idea. The other rooms have ceiling fans.
Thanks for a great vacation, Hidden Haven!
You're on island time in historic Kinnakeet, NC! There is something for everyone to enjoy on Hatteras Island.
From Hidden Haven, it's the beach right over the dune where you can swim, boogie board, collect shells, fly kites, sunbathe, fish, or simply relax with a good book from the provided selection under a beach umbrella. In the evening as the sun goes down, wander back down to the beach for some quality family time roasting marshmallows on the beach bonfire as you listen to the peaceful wave songs.
Turn the other way from Hidden Haven and take a very short walk to Cups & Cones, either for an early morning coffee or an after-dinner ice cream cone and outdoor movie. If dinner out is in your plans, go right up the street a few feet and try the Froggy Dog (because who doesn't want to say they ate at a place with a name like that?). Other amazing restaurants are in driving distance, like the award-winning Bros. Sandwich Shop and the Mad Crabber. Or just order a pizza, but you can do that at your own home!
Water sports abound, both in the waves and on the sound. Launch the kayaks into the sound and explore the Pamlico Sound by paddling. Head over to Ocean Air Sport to rent more kayaks, or have a lesson on a paddle board. Kite boarding is popular, or try the jetovator! Harbor Sailing is a memory the kiddos won't soon forget, and for the more adventurous, grab a jet ski and hit the sound with the need for speed!
Combine different interests by heading to the Avon Pier, which history buffs and fisherman alike will enjoy. The fisherman who are regulars on the pier are always willing to talk as they reel in croakers and ocean trout, or try your own hand at it by renting the gear for around ten bucks.
Speaking of history, Avon was originally called Kinnakeet and many will still use that name today. Check out the Graveyard of the Atlantic museum or the Hatteras Lighthouse, or head over to the Native American & Natural History museum a few minutes south. Taking the ferry to Ocracoke Island for the afternoon is a trip you won't soon forget. Search for the British Cemetery and discover its history...and you will be standing on land that is officially British! Ocracoke boasts its own light house.
If water sports aren't in the cards, bicycles are a great way to get around Avon. Mini golf and Go Karts is found in Frisco.
Shoppers will find many places to browse and buy, unique gift shops, beach shops, and wine shops like The Fisherman's Daughter, Sandcastles, or Island Spice & Wine...and of course, the Dollar Tree. Those creative people will find craft studios like Kinnakeet Clay Works, the Glass Bead, or Studio 12. Adults can head to the Koru Spa in the day and then meet up at The Comedy Club in the evening.
In historic Kinnakeet, although there is plenty to see and do, take the time to just sit on the deck and listen to the sea songs and be glad you're there with the people you love.
