Casa Bella is located in the amazing fisherman's village of Portovenere (just listed by New York Times as one of the top 45 most beautiful places to visit on earth and one of the UNESCO world heritage sites), not to mention one of the most beautiful and romantic villages of the Italian Riviera! Portovenere is the perfect hub for visiting the CinqueTerre yet less crowded and less touristy. The apartment is very conveniently located just a five minute walk from the historical center and from local restaurants, supermarkets, beaches, and the ferry dock. From April-October ferries regularly depart for the CinqueTerre villages.
Casa Bella is a two bedroom one bathroom apartment with a fantastic view and a nice terrace overlooking the Poet's Gulf. Upon entering to your right is the dining table that seats up to six and the living room area with a big window that overlooks the panoramic terrace. To your left is a small but well equipped kitchen with microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, etc. There are two bedrooms. One of the bedrooms has two single beds and the master bedroom has a queen-size bed and two extra bunk beds for children. The master bedroom also has a great sea view. The bathroom has a shower. There is also a washing machine and air conditioning unit.
This is the perfect set up for two couples or for a family. The owner,Sarah is American and supplies a very helpful housebook with lots of local information and is very easy to communicate with. She is also usually available during your stay for any assistance or questions you might have. For those wishing to visit the area without a car, the owner is happy to pick guests up upon arrival at the train station in La Spezia free of charge (when possible). A driver is available at extra cost for those wishing to be picked up at the airport or upon departure.
The owner also owns 2 larger inland villas in the vicinity of the CinqueTerre for larger groups of 6-10 people which are also listed on VRBO.

About Sarah Ferrari
My name is Sarah Ferrari and I have been living in Italy for over 20 years. I found my love in Portofino....my husband Franco almost 15 years ago. I was so lucky to move to the beautiful area of La Spezia which offers so many alternatives for an outdoorsey like myself. My husband's family has owned this property since it was constructed in the 60's along with a few other properties in the area and I have been managing it for over 10 years and catering to mostly American and Australian clients.
Sarah Ferrari purchased this Apartment in 1965
What makes this Apartment unique
Portovenere is an amazing little village. If you are able to live like a local and just enjoy the great food, excellent wine and watch amazing sunsets you will go home with many memories that will last lifetime. Daily hikes ending in refreshing swims in the Med are also just amazing. I can also help you find some of the "off the beaten path" things to discover!

Beautiful apartment in a beautiful spot!
This picture of the balcony is the main reason for choosing this apartment! We fell in love with it and Porto Venere. I admit I was a bit nervous about renting here for our trip to the Cinque Terre. It is not actually in the Cinque Terre, and it is not served by the trains. All that turned out to be FANTASTIC, and we could not have been happier with our stay in Porto Venere and this property.
Let's start with Sarah, the owner, a delightful Texan who could not have been more helpful and accommodating. She was very responsive in the weeks before our arrival, and upon arrival we felt so welcomed and charmed by her hospitality! (A minor plumbing issue was handled immediately, I think by Sarah herself.) She showed us her favorite spots (all wonderful) and arranged our departure taxi (right on time). A most excellent host!
The apartment itself was so warm and inviting, with a large dining table, two comfortable bedrooms (one with an amazing view over the harbor), and a small kitchen that was perfectly adequate for my best friend and me. And that balcony! There were mornings and evenings that we did not want to leave it. Watching the sun rise over the harbor, drinking coffee with my BFF, is a memory I'll always cherish.
The ferries run from Porto Venere to 4 of the 5 Cinque Terre villages, but they are subject to cancellation due to weather, choppy seas, anything that the captains decide make the journey unsafe. No worries! Simply hop the bus (buy tickets in the machine by the supermarket -- choose Zone 3 for La Spezia), and for a few euros and 20 minutes, you'll be at the bus stop in La Spezia. A 10-minute walk later and you're on the train bound for your first Cinque Terre city. It was very easy (and much cheaper than the ferry)! While we enjoyed our visits to the villages, we were ready to get back to our Porto Venere home every evening. It was peaceful, beautiful, and really a magical place.
Notes: the property is located uphill, so you'll have a nice walk up the street every evening when you head back. Also it is up a few flights of stairs with no elevators, so be prepared to haul your own stuff up. It is well worth it, I promise!
If I return to Porto Venere, and I hope I do, I would want to stay in this apartment. It was everything we wished for, and more!
Thank you for the wonderful review! I so appreciate the time you have taken to leave me these kind words. I look forward to having you back hopefully some time soon!!!!
Spent a wonderful 4 days at Sarah's apt, which is in a spectacular location. We witnessed the most wonderful sun rises and had a lovely time sitting on the balcony enjoying the evenings. Apartment is in a perfect little town. Beds very comfortable, kitchen small but adequate. Hills and steps up to apt. so be warned. Portovenere is a great jumping off point to Cinque Terre, and our group was so pleased we had chosen to stay in Portovenere rather than in one of the Cinque Terre villages. Our stay was very memorable and we would definitely return and stay in this apartment.
WOW WOW WOW
We loved our stay in the apartment, loved having drinks on the balcony in the afternoon & evenings. The view was just stunning
The apartment was very well equipped & we loved the bottles of wine Thank you so much Sarah, they were much appreciated.
Loved Portovenere & we were very sad to leave. If we were to return we would definitely stay in your beautiful apartment again.
Thanks again Sarah

Well decorated apartment with a stunning view
My husband and I stayed at Sarah's beautiful property for about a week in August after reading reviews about the great views from the apartment and that Portovenere was lower-key than neighboring Cinque Terre but still served as a perfect gateway to the five towns. The reviews were right. We spent time every night enjoying the view with a glass of wine (thank you, Sarah!) before we headed out to dinner at Tre Torri (our favorite restaurant in town). During our stay, we spent more time exploring Portovenere than Cinque Terre because it was so much less busy and had so much to offer (beautiful beaches and sightseeing, delicious gelato and restaurants, etc.). On the days we wanted to hike and explore Cinque Terre, we took the ferry (5 minute walk from the apartment) which was a relaxing way to get the best views of Cinque Terre. Thank you for sharing your beautiful property with us, Sarah! We hope to return someday!
Thank you so much for your wonderful review and I am so sorry that we were not able to meet. I hope you will come back in the near future so I can share a few more other places that I love so much!!!
Wonderful gateway to the Cinque Terre
Portovenere is the perfect spot to stay to explore the Cinque Terre and this property is so central to the ferries and also the treasures of Portovenere that it couldn't get any better! The only negative and it was not for us is the walk/hike up to the apartment from the main road. Seniors (and we are) with mobility problems (which we don't) could find the climb difficult. Other than that we would highly recommend Pontovenere and this property to anyone!
We had such a wonderful stay in Sarah's apartment! The description is a true portrayal but even surpasses that! It is in a wonderful location and very convenient.. .5 minutes to ferry, restaurants, shopping and the view from balcony is amazing! My husband and I sat out there most every night and just enjoyed the beautiful view! One day we shopped at the grocery store and had our own antipasti dinner on the balcony! Sarah picked us up in La Spezia and drove us to apt and explained everything. She even bought us some wine and candies to enjoy upon our arrival. Because she was so thorough, we didn't need to contact her except for one other time and she responded right away. We would definitely stay there again. Originally we had intended to stay in Cinque Terre...however, we found it to be very crowded although charming and were glad to get back to Portovenere where it was quieter. There is just as much to enjoy there as the 5 towns. We would definitely stay at Casa Bella again and hope you will find it as relaxing and enjoyable as we did!
Thank you so much for the wonderful review....I hope that you all will soon return to this magical corner:)!
