Brigitte comes from Germany and manages the several family coffee farms. Mike is a captain with the Matson shipping company. When he is home, he enjoys working on the farms. Brigitte and Mike's son Gill manages the property with help from his wife Shawna, who takes care of communications.
Gill purchased this Estate in 1995
Why Gill chose Opihihale
We chose this property because of the natural beauty and its ability to support lush coffee growth.

2ND TIME AROUND WAS JUST AS GREAT!!
Stayed in October 2017 and and May 2018. Gill makes this property a great stay! He provides all you need for a great stay! Secluded and private, the coffee house is a tranquil Big Island retreat. We fell in love with property the 1st time we went in Oct 2017 and when we planned to go back in May 2018, there was no doubt we would choose this property again! Ocean view was excellent, seeing and hearing wildlife around was incredible. We saw a wild boar, which was wild!! Property is safe, close to attractions, yet quiet and away from it all. Loved it. Whenever we return for a 3rd time, I hope Gill will graciously accommodate as usual!
Gorgeous place. Truly paradise!!!
Very clean, very spacious house. The pictures on website are not really showing how beautiful this place is. My husband and I enjoy walk every morning.
Beautiful views and great space. We’re already looking forward to staying again.
The views, space, property, and hospitality were excellent. If you’re looking for a place away from sidewalks, this is it!
The house is beautiful and completely stocked with everything we needed. It even had supplies of sunblock and insect repellant, toilet paper and paper towels. boogie boards and snorkeling equipment.
The view is unbelievable, so meals on the verandah are very special.
The location is perfect for hiking and snorkeling.
Overall, it exceed even our high expectations. Gill is very accommodating and helpful. We plan to go back as soon as we can!
We enjoyed our long stay in Hawaii. The house is comfortable and functional. The back deck is the perfect place to watch the sun set, read a book or simply watch the coffee trees grow. The front gives morning sun and solitude. The house is well maintained and outfitted with everything needed for cooking a good meal, and sleeping comfortably. No need to pick up extra things like a cooler or beach towels. Just check with Gill before buying anything. We enjoyed picking the papayas and avocados right on the property. There are mango and Macadamia nut trees on the property, but unfortunately they were not in season in February although the coffee trees bloomed white flowers. The wild pigs and chickens made periodic appearances. Many thanks to Gill and family for the wonderful vacation.
We arrived after dark, and the directions Gill gave were spot on! No trouble finding house at all. Lets just say the pictures do not do this house justice! House was very clean and had everything we could possible need (minus a blender). Sitting on the lanai was my favorite, such an amazing view! I was worried with no A/C we would be uncomfortable.....not an issue. Temps up there stayed very nice (sometimes a bit chilly). Plenty of "beach stuff", even an avocado picker which we used several times on the enormous avocado tress on property. Having a W/D was great. You can tell when they were building this home they spared no expense, everything is top notch! Was so nice to be away from all the hustle in Kona. I know we had neighbors (I think)....never saw/heard a soul, other than the critters roaming around on property. Grocery store to the north is nice and has what you need. Black sand beach is so close, which is a must do!
Unfortunately, we were there when the "missile false alarm" happened. Which did damping the mood for a time, however, were able to bounce back from it.
I could go on and on about this amazing home. Highly recommend if you're planning a stay on the Big island, you MUST stay here! Owner's are helpful and give you the space you need. We truly enjoyed our stay, and cannot say thank you enough!
