Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Elizabeth!

Just wanted to touch bases with you. I just got word this afternoon that we will be aiming to close (early) on October the 23rd. We found a nice home in the Cat Hallow/Brushy Creek neighborhood in Austin. I specifically asked for trees and a private pool, and luckily we got BOTH! We are very excited to officially call it home and get unpacked. Though I must say we have thoroughly enjoyed our time here. I will never forget the sweet sound of silence nor the sunrises with the roosters calling in the distance. What an amazing treat that was! Cody and the boys have found many frogs in the creek down the road and our dog has enjoyed the ability to run!! I will admit it will be a sad day when we will be checking out of our "little slice of heaven" It has been so peaceful and cozy. Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to unwind and reconnect as a family. The kids enjoyed every minute of it- even Saturday's when it was cleaning day! In order to find jobs for the little ones around the house I decided they could help clean the shower....I put them in their water shoes and swim trunks, gave them soapy sponges and let them 'get to work' . Of course I had to clean behind them, but they loved their chores!

I discovered a neat piece of information while we were here, we were on our way to the Dyer Dairy Farm to purchase raw milk off hwy 29 when we came to a historical marker labeled Mankins Crossing. . It was about an old settler, Samuel Mankins, who in the 18000's lived on the land near the creek, now named Mankins Branch. His property was located in an area where it was easy for people to cross the water before the government built a bridge in the early 1900's. As it turns out, Samuel Mankins is my 3x's great uncle! My maiden name is Heather Mankins and we are 100% related! I get chills just thinking about the coincidence of our finding this farm house, choosing it and now to realize my family and I are temporarily living on the land that my ancestors were on decades earlier!!! What are the odds???!!!! This knowledge has made my stay here a million times more special and meaningful than you could ever imagine. Just thought I would share my findings!

Cute Farmhouse in a Relaxing Setting

  • 5 of 5

If you're looking for a place to relax and get away from the city ... this is the spot for you! The peaceful farm with a very comfortable and tastefully decorated farmhouse is exactly the prescription for stress relief. We thoroughly enjoyed our 3-night stay and would've loved to have stayed longer. Coffee on the front porch in the morning with the longhorns and sunsets by the pool in the evening couldn't have been more relaxing. The house is fully equipped with everything you may need and the walk-in shower in the bathroom is fabulous! To top it off, we found a beautiful basket of yummy goodies for us to share and enjoy, and fresh tulips brightening the dining table. This farm and house is a winner!!!

Beautiful and serene!

  • 5 of 5

Had an absolutely wonderful experience with my Family here. The location is just a short drive to Austin which allowed us to experience the city life but be able to come back to the country to relax. The owners stock the property to be basically 100% accommodating! It was a cooler weather week than we anticipated so it was a bummer the pool wasn't heated to be able to swim, that was about the only downfall. However I'm sure during the normal Texas heat, that is completely unnecessary. Overall it was a lovely experience and we created some great memories here.

A slice of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

Beth and Roy's "Home on the Range" is an idyllic situation for anyone needing to step back and take a breath when the universe is pulling you in too many directions. A perfect spot for anyone wanting to "just breathe". The nearby town, Georgetown, is filled with amazing restaurants if you choose not to use the fully stocked and usable kitchen. Had car trouble once and Whitestone Service found a loose wire and fixed it at no charge! Roosters can be heard in the distance if you go out on the front porch for morning coffee. This is a quiet, restful, welcoming home. We stayed for 6 weeks, and wanted to stay longer. This home has heart. There was feeling of "coming home" as we drove up the driveway on our first day.

We will be back.

PS .You are 30 minutes from Austin where you can find anything in the world to do or see, if you choose hustle and bustle, music, food trucks, shopping, bats, and caves.... amazing diversity.
