House verses Hotel
This was the first time we stayed in a house rather than going to a good chain Hotel. Our family enjoyed the house very much and being able to prepare our meals. Very nice and the kids loved the pool.
Our hosts were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We had a great getaway!
Watching on Cameras
THEY WATCH ON CAMERAS AND SEND TEXT MESSAGES! The second day, while trying to figure out how to turn on the hot tub, we got a message not to “turn on the hot tub without calling first.” Two hours later, a second message came saying that their future son-in-law happened to be driving by and saw our kids using the pool floats as bases for baseball in the BACKYARD. (They were using them only to mark the bases. ) The message said that we should, “Tell them to respect our things.” Later the same day, One of our sons was hitting a foam ball with a FOAM bat when the male owner called and YELLED at me. He stated that one of the kids was “hitting the rocks around the pool with a bat.” He also told me that, “The rules clearly state that anyone under 18 was to be supervised by the pool at all times!” When I told him that my husband was out there, he said, “You need to tell your husband to watch them kids!” We all came in and didn’t use the pool after that. Each message or call came 4 or 5 minutes after the supposed crime. There was no time to “review the cameras” as was claimed. They had to be watching us. We felt like we were being spied on—even in the house. It was very stressful and we decided to leave early the next morning. In a later text, she said that she saw one of my kids climbing the iron fence to get his ball. She claimed to be worried about destruction of their property even though she had a large cash deposit and an additional, very large, insurance policy that we purchased. They refused to refund our money even though they violated VRBO’s rules (can be found online) about using cameras only for security and not “watching guests in areas that would be considered private.” They said that we left voluntarily. We feel that we were forced out. In a previous review, someone mentioned that they felt like they were being watched And a response was left by the owners stating that the cameras were put in “privacy mode after guests arrived.” (They never revealed to us directly that cameras were present.) Apparently not true! We still cleaned and left the house immaculate. The whole thing was just creepy.
To our future guests, The Camera in the back yard is only facing the pool in the back yard, and there is a sign in the front posted on the house that you can't miss as you drive into drive way and as you walk up the side walk to the front door. the only other camera is on the doorbell at front door and the pool equipment can not be seen from view of the camera, we only send a message that says if you need help running the hot tub feel free to call and we will walk you through the process as it can be difficult. My Future son in law does live on the next street over and did call me to let me know that the whole family was playing baseball in the back yard with the pool floats wende was also out there with the kids at this time, so I did open the camera to take a look as any one or business would do to protect what they worked hard to buy to give there guests a more memorable experience. and did confirm that they did have the pool floats set as bases and one of the boys did a face first body slide on one of the floats. I then witnessed one of the younger boys hitting the rocks with the bat like bam bam on the flinstones. So after the text message to let her know that I knew about them using the floats as bases, I checked the camera again to see the boy hitting pool rocks with bat, I can't tell if it is a foam bat or an alluminum bat or not all I see are destructive boys not being supervised. I then called her to advise her of this and told her that one of our rules clearly says that children under 18 must be supervised bye an adult, she said that her husband was out there and I said then tell him he needs to watch them. There was a guest that commented on the camera and you can go on the sight and see that he was a little skeptical of the camera, which is normal some people are just that way but they gave us four stars anyway. You can't please everyone but this was simply a case of letting the kids run wild, and Home Away was aware of the issues in real time of what was going on with this family, We only want our guest to have a good time and I was more than fair. wendy even asked me if she could have a guest over and that she would pay the extra guest fee and I told her that I would not charge her for the additional guest. We feel that all the other reviews will reflect how we go out of our way to give you the relaxing getaway that you hoped for.
We had a wonderful vacation at this property. The house and outside area was very nice and relaxing. Exactly what we wanted. The property owners were wonderful and responded immediately with any questions we had.
Wonderful owners and property.
We LOVED this place. The property is beautiful and the pool is amazing. Toby and Kimberly were more than wonderful. They were very responsive every single time we interacted with them. We had a little bit of a hard time understanding the pool and hot tub and they were always ready and willing to help even though they were busy. They were helpful and went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. We hope to return soon!
