5 Bedrooms, 3.5 Baths, river front double porches, large yard, garage
Life is good from the front porches of the Cape Fear House. Those porches offer a breathtaking view of the Cape Fear River, from which its original builder, Thomas Mann Thompson, ventured out to run the Union blockade more than 150 years ago. He built the house out of local longleaf pine and the original wood remains one of the luxuries of this beautiful home. Updated in 2015, our 4200 sq. Ft. home features original heart pine flooring, double front porches, 5 spacious bedrooms sleeping up to 13 people, 3 1/2 baths, den, living room, dining room seating for 10-13, and kitchen. The Cape Fear House offers vacationers a unique combination of exceptional accommodations, remarkable convenience to local shops and restaurants and picturesque views of the Southport waterfront that make this home a vacation place not soon forgotten.
Located on the riverfront in Southport, the day starts and ends on the front porches. Sunrise over the Cape Fear River is best enjoyed with a cup of coffee watching the ibis leaving Battery Island and flying inland to spend the day. You really can hear the rush of the wind over their wings as they travel overhead. Our home is within leisurely walking distance of very fine restaurants, antique shops, art galleries and historic sites located in Southport. We are 20 min. by car from the public beaches on Oak Island. In the evening, enjoy a glass of wine while you listen once again to the ibis overhead returning to their nests out in the river and perhaps spot dolphin out in the water. If you are lucky enough to see a full moon rising low over the river, go to the second-story front porch and notice how the moon silhouettes the islands. No matter what you have done for the day, a visit to the beach, shopping, paddling the marsh or simply a relaxing stroll around town, it is the view from the front porch to which you will return again and again.

This historic home is amazing!
8 of us rented this home for my 50th birthday celebration. The house is historic, beautiful and will you will never find a rental that is as clean and has everything you need, from toilet paper to beach chairs! The 5 bedroom home has plenty of space for everyone not to be too close for comfort. It is comfortable and inviting. The front porch is amazing and a great place to enjoy coffee and to watch dolphins playing. The widow’s walk is amazing. Tedi and Bill will be more than happy to arrange for you to go up to see the best view in Southport. Tedi is super amazing to work with. She is super helpful and very knowledgeable about events in Southport. Cape Fear House has definitely been added to my “must stay again” list!!! Thank you, Tedi and Bill!!!!!
A fantastic, historic home in an amazing location. This home has it all!
We had an amazing stay 1/17/18-1/21/18. The house is absolutely beautiful and immaculate. It is perfectly furnished with a mixture of antiques and modern amenities. The kitchen has everything you would need to cook and serve a gourmet meal. (Not that we did.) The owner Tedi, greeted us with warmth and was 100% helpful and responsive. Upon arrival she gave us a tour a top the widow's walk. The bedrooms are spacious, with terrific linens. There are extra blankets, pillows, and towels everywhere. The front porch is amazing for beach, boat and people watching. We loved having our coffee out there each morning. There are games, beach chairs, and just about everything you could want in this home. They have thought of everything. We can't wait to visit this grand location again.
Thank you so much for taking time to write this review so quickly. I enjoyed meeting your group and we look forward to having you as our guests again in the future.
Spectacular view, perfectly furnished, convenient
This large home had a spectacular view of the water, was perfectly furnished including kitchen, and was a convenient walk to the picturesque downtown of Southport. The home was nicely maintained. It is large and a perfect spot that can easily accommodate 10 people. Very highly recommend!
Beautiful home! Perfect location.
Perfectly appointed home with all the amenities you could ask for. Great location!!
We appreciate you taking the time to send in a review, especially at this very busy time of year.
You will never want to leave!
I found myself multiple times daydreaming about what it would be like to live in this lovely town. Sitting on the front porch in the morning and evening watching the boats go by, waving to the friendly people, it was perfect. The home is gorgeous with its wide plank original hardwood floors, high ceilings and 'wavy' glass in window panes, you can almost imagine what it would have been like to live there when the home was built. As big as the house is, it still feels cozy. The yard is something that also makes this house unique, not many waterfront homes have this size side yard and private fenced backyard. When the sun was on the porch, we sat in the shade of the live oak and ate our ice cream from nearby shop. We also rented a golf cart that we used to look at all the charming homes as well as go to shops and restaurants. I would highly recommend this home for all ages. Hope I will be visiting again soon.
Thank you for taking time to write this thoughtful review. We look forward to seeing your family again in the future.
