About the property

Cozy Rustic Cabin On 10 Acres At The Foot Of The Boggy Draw Trail Head.

The cabin is ideal as year round getaway for two with a queen sized bed , a wood burning stove (firewood is provided), a farmhouse sink, refrigerator, microwave, electric skillets, toaster, coffee maker, a full bath with a large shower, instant hot water, a copper mining pan sink, and a covered porch with a gas barbecue. An 8 foot picnic table sits in front of the cabin near the fire pit. Sorry, pets are not allowed. The newly graded and graveled driveway provides year-round access.

The Bear Cabin is a perfect place for a weekend full moon ride through the 500 miles of trails in Boggy Draw Recreation Area. It is also a convenient hunter's cabin in the fall.

About Bev Speece

My great grandparents traveled up from Cleburne, Texas to settle in the Dolores River Valley in the late 1800's. My family, including my grandparents, children, and grandchildren and I have enjoyed the beautiful river, scenery and crisp, dry climate for many many years. Even though I live in Hawaii most of the year, I have a wonderful manager who takes care of the cabin and will meet you when you arrive.

Bev Speece purchased this cabin in 2012

What makes this cabin unique

I built two cabins on the 10 acres that I purchased in 2012. The other cabin is on the west side of the property and it is called the Boggy Draw Cabin Listing on vrbo.com and Home Away as #743369. The Bear Cabin is nestled in the ponderosa pines on the east side of the 10 acres, so there is a lot of privacy for both cabins. The seclusion and privacy is what I love - along with the rustic mountain cabin experience.

But then the Town of Dolores with it's fabulous Dolores Food Market and many excellent restaurants is only 3 miles away. Privacy with convenience!

Peaceful retreat!

  • 5 of 5

Awesome cabin and very thoughtful owner! Cabin in well insulated and tightly built with great details. One of our favorite memories: opening the window enough at night to hear the spring frogs....we will be returning!

Saw many mule deer and although we were just barely out of town it seemed like we were totally secluded in the country.

Very nice Cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at Bev's cabin. She was an excellent communicator and very accommodating. We were there to pick up our son at Deer Hill in Mancos after his 3 week expedition into the San Juan Mountains. We had to kill a few days between his return and our daughter's return. Bev offered to let him (13 years old) crash on a futon on the floor for an little extra $. There was still plenty of room in the cabin for the 3 of us. We've stayed at VRBO's all over the world and this was one of the easiest in and out experiences. The property was absolutely immaculate as well. I highly recommend this cabin for some out of the way relaxation.

PS. The huevos rancheros at "That Place in Dolores" were the best I've ever had.

Amazing little retreat !

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a wonderful 4 day stay at this cozy little cabin. Great combination of an old time, one room cabin in a comfy updated setting. The wood burning stove was great during the cool evenings and mornings. Nicely situated in the woods but only 2-3 miles from town.

We enjoyed every minute of our stay.

Perfect and Amazing!!!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was absolutely amazing for my husband and I and our dog! It is tucked away in the woods and very private, and looks exactly like the pictures, except it was even more spacious than the pictures make it seem. The owners have thought of everything--the cabin is rustic but the height of comfort with the full kitchen and bathroom, plenty of hooks and outlets, games, pre-cut firewood, and chairs for the deck. It seemed like every time we needed something it was right there! There is a great grill and fire pit, with plenty of wood. In case you don't want to use the wood burning stove, they have provided a large space heater, and there is a heater in the bathroom. We can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay! The town of Dolores is small but has plenty of eating options and a really nice grocery store. We will definitely be going back as soon as possible! (One note, there is almost no cell service by the cabin, and the wifi signal isn't really strong, but there is good service a few miles away in the town).
