About the property

3 Bedrooms, 2.5 Bathrooms, Sleeps 6 - Open Land, Peaceful Surroundings

The 1810 Homestead is a single family, 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath post and beam farmhouse situated on 13 acres of open meadows with a large lawn and walking path around the perimeter. This path is located along a woodlot and gives year round access to the spectacular 180-degree views of Fly Creek Valley. The location is convenient: just 3 miles from the quaint hamlet of Fly Creek and minutes to Cooperstown giving you access to fine dining and cultural events without sacrificing the quality of life that this type of homestead can bring.

We are located just 10 minutes from the Dream Park venue, shopping and dining so guests can have both solitude and convenience.

About Gloria Jean Cestero-Hurd

I am a semi-retired academic administrator and native New Yorker from Manhattan. Living in this little corner of the world brings a great deal of balance into life. Things like fire fly dances in the summer and tree swallows arriving each spring remind us that we need to stop and take the time to enjoy the beauty that nature has to offer.

Gloria Jean Cestero-Hurd purchased this farmhouse in 2006

Why Gloria Jean Cestero-Hurd chose Richfield Springs

Cooperstown is a small town that has a great reach: Fine dining, museums, a pristine lake, outdoor activities, a fabulous Farmer's Market, a state of the art gym and a hospital affiliated with the prestigious the Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. The decision to relocate here from the Hudson Valley was easy. My husband and I purchased this historic home in 2006 - it had been abandoned for eight years. The property spent most of its life as a dairy farm. Much of the structure could not be saved which gave us the opportunity to marry some modern conveniences into the renovation. The reason why there is an open floor plan and exposed beam work - but the windows are the true location. The views you see haven't changed in 200 years - it's impressive.

What makes this farmhouse unique

In addition to the views, one of the most cherished things about the property is the perimeter walk. It is best enjoyed at sunrise with a cup of coffee, or in the early evening before dinner. We also have something unique to the area called "fogbows". They are similar to rainbows, but instead of color it is dreamy white and you can see water particles. We get fog almost every morning for about 10 minutes or so - its fascinating to see the fog pass up Panther Mountain in the morning hours.

Beautiful and Peaceful Stay!!!

  • 5 of 5

I selected this house for my stay for the Dreams Park Tournament in Milford, NY. It is a 20 minute drive with beautiful views along the way. The property and home have been beautifully maintained by Gloria and Bill, and they available throughout our stay at the property. They welcomed us with some staples for breakfast so that we did not need to visit a store before our arrival. When our travels plans were delayed thus preventing us from arriving at the time originally expected, Gloria and Bill were more than accommodating to the change in schedule. If I ever come back to this beautiful area of the country I will definitely come back to this property!!

Owner's Response: This family is the very reason why we decided to share our home. Although we didn't have an opportunity to meet our guests they were exactly the type of family that understood both the home and the land. We're so proud to know that they enjoyed there time here. And we very much appreciate their review.
