Charming, Quiet Cabin for Family of 4
Great cabin for our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids) - not really rustic at all, except in style. Had all the modern amenities you need, including a fully stocked kitchen, WiFi, flat screen TV w/DVD/Netflix, Bluetooth speaker, even a garage to keep the snow off your car (note that it is not attached to the unit so you would need to go outside to get to the cabin.) We cooked and ate in every breakfast and dinner and didn't really miss anything (except maybe one more baking sheet and a big covered pot would have been nice.) Homewood is 10 minutes down the road, and Tahoe City/supermarkets/restaurants 10 min. the other way. Squaw/Alpine a little further up 89.
2 bed (Queen + 2 twins), 2 bath, and I was a little worried at first that the master bath (upstairs) does not have a shower (only the downstairs bath does). But then I kind of fell in love with the cute tub upstairs, and the quaint wood paneling (and stained glass window) makes it feel like your own private little sauna room. Lots of other nice homey touches: warm blankets and board games provided - and there is a washer/dryer too.
We did notice the sump pump but my kids are heavy sleepers and we were upstairs so it didn't bother us. Things to note: there is a great gas stove in the middle of the great room that heats the whole house fine, but it is very HOT to the touch - so that might be an issue for families with mobile toddlers (maybe bring a baby gate or watch very carefully....) Also, don't turn it down too low (like we did one day) because then it seems to take a long time to heat the house back up. Also, with the record breaking snowfall, we had a little trouble getting our car up the hill from Hwy 89, so maybe ask the owner/manager for the best route (by the community center) in case of snow/unplowed roads.
It's nice having an onsite manager too, to check in on us, esp. given the heavy snow and storm conditions we had this year. We would definitely recommend this place - and may be back!
Rustic is Right!
The cabin is as described… Rustic, which was fine by us but for others who are more “sophisticated” it might be too rustic for them.
There are two nice bedrooms and two bathrooms which make it easy to manage the ins and out of a couple couples.
We cooked dinner in one night and all the necessary appliances were there. Just an FYI the coffee pot is small so you may spend a lot of time grinding and making new coffee in the morning. We did not really use the TV but it is nicely positioned in the LR area.
The snow was HUGE when we were there so was difficult to find the right house number but in general I doubt that is a problem. There is a caretaker above the garage who unlocked the place and turned the heat on prior to our arrival which was nice when we finally arrived. Not sure about the concept of BEAR WIRES which made my wife nervous but we figured they were all hibernating now.
The only big issue that needs to be addressed is that below the house there is either a Sump pump or electric generator that you could hear turn ON and OFF every 30 seconds. At first it did not matter too much but when reading quietly in the evening or sleeping hearing it come on and off, it became challenging. But all in all good value for a Tahoe rustic cabin!
The sump pump had to be replaced twice this season with all the snow/rain/flooding, should be working now. Bear wires are more of a visual deterrent , effective when they are around, after all we are almost in the middle of the forest. Living in Tahoe always creates an experience when the weather comes. We try to be on top of it as much as we can. Lots of snow this year :-).
What a Great Cabin!
My family and I came up for a weekend celebration and did not want to stay in the tourist ridden ski villages, and wanted to truly experience Lake Tahoe so we decided to rent this buetiful cabin in home wood. We were not all that familiar with Tahoe, and were so pleased to find our cabin located just a few miles from Tahoe City. My family does also love to ski, and we were only a 5 minute drive from some of the best ski resorts in Lake Tahoe, like Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley! The canine itself was gorgeous, very clean and modernc ole staying true to the Lake Tahoe rustic vibe. I could not be happier with our choice in this cabin for our weekend adventure and highly recommend to any families or couples looking to get away to Lake Tahoe! I will def be utilizing this buetiful cabin again this winter!
Thank you from my family to yours!
