Cute cabin but dirty

  • 2 of 5

I liked the property but I felt is was very dirty. There were cob webs every where. The rafters were very dusty as well as the furniture. There was sand in my bed and black mold around the master faucet. The lights in the hood above the stove had a greasy switch and the entire hood was greasy.

Management a bit abusive

  • 1 of 5

Overall the property was as expected with the exception of very stringent oversight. We came up for our niece's wedding and the night of the rehearsal dinner, about 9 of my family came over for a nightcap at around 10:30pm. Now granted it was later than the contractual "quiet time of 9pm to 7pm" and it is forbidden to have "Parties". We were a little noisy, completely inside the house with the doors closed. What happened within 3 minutes of arriving was completely unacceptable. The "manager" who apparently lives in the above the garage apartment, barged into the house yelling and demanding to speak to the one in charge. I identified myself and took the conversation outside, away from my guests. He started screaming at me about the contract and how I had not read it. And that it implicitly forbade any parties, any noise that late and "How many people are staying here!". I replied 3 (allows 4). He also accused me of drinking and that I was obviously drunk (I had not had a drink in over 3 hours and was completely sober). He demanded everyone leave immediately. I was very apologetic and assured this "Manager" who also claimed he was the owner when I asked specifically, that I would take care of it immediately. I did although we stayed for another 45 minutes or so. I found the interaction disgustingly confrontational, aggressive and bordered on threatening. One of my guests who is an assistent US attorney was surprised at his conduct but stayed out of it. I would not rent this house again. However, if you are a retiree and want a place to sit and read a book by yourself, it will probably work out as long as you can safely navigate the time period authentic very steep stairs to the bedroom.

Loved it, beautiful area near bicycle trails.

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful area right by the bicycle trails and the Lake. Cabin was nice, tight going upstairs, have to be careful of the chair in living room it’s broken and tilts as it leans back. Kitchen is lovely. Was wonderful sitting on the front porch just relaxing.

Charming, Quiet Cabin for Family of 4

  • 4 of 5

Great cabin for our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids) - not really rustic at all, except in style. Had all the modern amenities you need, including a fully stocked kitchen, WiFi, flat screen TV w/DVD/Netflix, Bluetooth speaker, even a garage to keep the snow off your car (note that it is not attached to the unit so you would need to go outside to get to the cabin.) We cooked and ate in every breakfast and dinner and didn't really miss anything (except maybe one more baking sheet and a big covered pot would have been nice.) Homewood is 10 minutes down the road, and Tahoe City/supermarkets/restaurants 10 min. the other way. Squaw/Alpine a little further up 89.

2 bed (Queen + 2 twins), 2 bath, and I was a little worried at first that the master bath (upstairs) does not have a shower (only the downstairs bath does). But then I kind of fell in love with the cute tub upstairs, and the quaint wood paneling (and stained glass window) makes it feel like your own private little sauna room. Lots of other nice homey touches: warm blankets and board games provided - and there is a washer/dryer too.

We did notice the sump pump but my kids are heavy sleepers and we were upstairs so it didn't bother us. Things to note: there is a great gas stove in the middle of the great room that heats the whole house fine, but it is very HOT to the touch - so that might be an issue for families with mobile toddlers (maybe bring a baby gate or watch very carefully....) Also, don't turn it down too low (like we did one day) because then it seems to take a long time to heat the house back up. Also, with the record breaking snowfall, we had a little trouble getting our car up the hill from Hwy 89, so maybe ask the owner/manager for the best route (by the community center) in case of snow/unplowed roads.

It's nice having an onsite manager too, to check in on us, esp. given the heavy snow and storm conditions we had this year. We would definitely recommend this place - and may be back!

Rustic is Right!

  • 4 of 5

The cabin is as described… Rustic, which was fine by us but for others who are more “sophisticated” it might be too rustic for them.

There are two nice bedrooms and two bathrooms which make it easy to manage the ins and out of a couple couples.

We cooked dinner in one night and all the necessary appliances were there. Just an FYI the coffee pot is small so you may spend a lot of time grinding and making new coffee in the morning. We did not really use the TV but it is nicely positioned in the LR area.

The snow was HUGE when we were there so was difficult to find the right house number but in general I doubt that is a problem. There is a caretaker above the garage who unlocked the place and turned the heat on prior to our arrival which was nice when we finally arrived. Not sure about the concept of BEAR WIRES which made my wife nervous but we figured they were all hibernating now.

The only big issue that needs to be addressed is that below the house there is either a Sump pump or electric generator that you could hear turn ON and OFF every 30 seconds. At first it did not matter too much but when reading quietly in the evening or sleeping hearing it come on and off, it became challenging. But all in all good value for a Tahoe rustic cabin!

Owner's Response: The sump pump had to be replaced twice this season with all the snow/rain/flooding, should be working now. Bear wires are more of a visual deterrent , effective when they are around, after all we are almost in the middle of the forest. Living in Tahoe always creates an experience when the weather comes. We try to be on top of it as much as we can. Lots of snow this year :-).
