Our property in the heart of Ajijic contains two tasteful, two-bedroom homes with a shared central courtyard and pool. The main house is a spacious, two bedroom, 2 bathroom house on two levels looking over the solar-heated pool. With a beautiful view from the top mirador of mountains and lake.

We live in it in the winter and rent it out for the other months.

The property’s high walled exterior provides privacy and security to relax, unwind and enjoy the internal oasis, with its lovely swimming pool and gardens. You will find many different places to sit, read a book, sip a margarita, bird watch, catch some rays, or enjoy a BBQ. Both houses have their own private roof top terraces in addition to the common areas.

The main house is built on two levels looking over the pool and gardens, with the core living area on the main floor (kitchen, dining room, living room, master bedroom and bathroom) and an office, second large bedroom and large bathroom leading out to a private roof-top terrace. The house is well equipped:

• Fully equipped kitchen with gas stove, microwave, coffee maker, knives, pots and pans, etc.

• Open concept dining room off the kitchen, which leads out to a pretty courtyard

• Master bedroom with King size bed walks out onto the pool and gardens

• Pretty bathroom on main floor, with tiled shower, and copper sink vanity. Lots of hot water and pressure

• Upstairs includes an office and large bedroom with Queen bed (matrimonial) looking over the pool, and a new large bathroom that steps out onto a lovely, private roof-top terrace

• Living room includes a 55” flat screen, Smart TV with DVD player

• Land line, Internet (WiFi) and Shaw Direct TV

• Solar-heated 16’ by 10’ beautiful tiled pool

• Outdoor shower by pool

• Linens and towels for four

• Weekly basic maid service (Note: additional visits or services can be requested)

• Gardener and pool maintenance

• Shared washing machine and clothes line (Dryer available for use on rainy days only)

The property is located in a friendly, colourful street, a half block from Lake Chapala and four blocks from the central Plaza in Ajijic from where you can enjoy walking the malecon (boardwalk) directly into town or catch a bus, one block away.

To help make your trip easy, we can arrange to have our property manager pick you up from the Guadalajara airport (same charge as a taxi) and bring you directly to the house. Miguel will have a sign at the airport so you can easily spot him and then he will bring you to the property and show you around your vacation home.

Ajijic is a popular ex-pat destination with many amenities including numerous quality restaurants, bars and theaters, all in close proximity to the property.

Due to demand by North American 'snowbirds' our high season is considered to be October to April, but don't be fooled...... Voted one of the best climates in the world Ajijic boasts an average daily temperature of 25C or 76F year round, and because we are inland we don't get the humidity so typical of the coastal towns. May and June are the hottest months (it can reach 34C or 90F), but the 'rainy season' hits in mid-June, bringing cooling showers (mostly at night) which makes everything lush and the summer days warm and sunny. There are many folks who prefer this time of year to visit - especially those who are trying to get away from hot and humid climates.

If you are new to Ajijic, we can provide you with lots of suggestions about the places to eat, dance, and visit during your stay. We are sure you will enjoy the Ajijic experience as much as we do.

Why Scott and Aileen Hutchinson chose Ajijic

We bought this property because it has a great balance of being close to town (4 flat blocks) with all of its restaurants and festivals, but far enough out to be a very rich and real neighborhood. We are not part of a gated community. We know all of our neighbours by name and, in fact, enjoy sharing special events with them.

We picked this property in particular because it has two separate dwellings inside of the one secure, high walled oasis. We added a pool with swim-in-place jets for exercise, along with a ton of beautiful plants and flowers. The neighborhood is mostly local, but there are plenty of expats in the mix. A 2 minute walk to the lake and malacon that takes you into town.

We fell in love with Ajijic the first time we visited, and we are sure you will too.

What makes this house unique

The property is large, colourful, warm and inviting with many spots to relax and unwind. It is located on a Mexican street for the real Mexican experience.

The BEST VRBO house we've stayed in!

Wow, hard to know where to begin... This beautiful home exceeded our expectations 10-fold! From the art to the architecture, the home is incredible! It is fully equipped and we felt right at home. We were fortunate to meet the lovely couple who own this gem and live in it half the year. What an amazing job they’ve done to create such an oasis for us vacationers! There are literally 5 outdoor spaces but we spent most our time on the Mirador where we had a great view of both the lake AND the mountains! I think our very favorite part of our stay in this VRBO was probably the neighborhood it’s in. Only one block from the Malecon and in a super friendly, mostly Mexican, section of town. Precisely what we were looking for and we thoroughly enjoyed it!

One thing we were a bit anxious about before coming is that there is another house on the property – a 2-bedroom/1 bath that’s also for rent thru VRBO and the occupants can use the pool and the Mirador as well. Turns out, the folks that rented it (a married couple for 10 of our first days, 2 females for a month and 2 females about one week before we left) ended up being wonderful people we really enjoyed! We actually missed them when they left!!!

This home could not have been more perfect for our 3-month stay in Ajijic! It’s a fabulous property, decorated beautifully and in THE best part of town possible!! Plus, it’s priced very fairly for all that you get!!! A big thank you to Scott and Aileen for everything!!

Our second time here...

And it won't be our last. Great location, within walking distance of pretty much everything you need. Bus stop is half a block away. It's clean, comfortable and a fun place to stay. The mirador is to die for on hot days - lovely breeze.

Paradise in Ajijic

This is an absolutely beautiful home. It has plenty of room and features a bedroom and bathroom on each floor. Great for roommate situations! The house was immaculate and has Mexican style decor including a metal tree that wrapped around the archway! The furniture was comfy and was casual enough that we could relax! There were 5 separate outdoor living areas for plenty of privacy plus a view of the verdant mountains and lake from the mirador.

The location was very convenient..corner store half a block away, butcher, tortilla maker, fruit store all in the neighborhood. Colon, the main shopping street was just a few blocks away. I loved saying good morning to the lake, which was about 2 blocks away....fresh mountain air.

Miguel was very helpful...consider hiring him for the day to go on the south side of the lake up to Mazamitla....well worth it. He also helped lots when I sprained my knee...(doctor vistit plus x rays were $65!).

The kitchen was well stocked, and I enjoyed making omlets in the morning as well as stir frys with fresh veggies!

Lots of storage and extra blankets and pillows too! Plenty of hot water with good pressure.

The place is well maintained with a gardener, pool person and maid.

A great choice especially if you want dual masters!

Such a lovely place...

My husband and I spent two weeks at this lovely home. We were in the back, main house and no one was in the front house, so we had the place to ourselves. Miguel was wonderful, answering questions, showing us around and helping us when we had an issue.

Our daughter and her husband live around the corner so it was a perfect location for us. It's very easy to walk to the main square or to "six corners" which has everything you store, butcher, etc.

The neighbors were great, helping us to get in when we were having trouble with the garage door. This is a family neighborhood, so it's not exactly quiet. Dogs, roosters, the occasional donkey, kids playing in the street at night (which was fantastic, because I always bring soccer balls to give to kids - they were all my buddies after that). The noise didn't bother us, but it may bother someone looking for "peace and quiet".

Magda the cleaning lady was great and very friendly.

We would definitely stay here again. It was the perfect place for us to hang out with family.

Relaxing in Mexican Style Comfort in Ajijic

From the beginning to the end, my communications and arrangements with Scott and Aileen Hutchinson, through VRBO, were friendly, clear and professional. Aileen and Scott did everything they could to accommodate me and my house guest.

The house was clean and orderly and the Mexican decor was a delight to this North Easterner's eyes. The house manager, Miguel, checked up on me to see that all was well. The neighbors, all Mexicans, were so sweet and friendly, trying to speak to me in English while I tripped over my very limited Spanish. The good thing for me was that shop owners and restaurant staff spoke English, so communication was no problem.

Casa Elena is conveniently located in Ajijic, one block from the bus. We bought almost all of our goods at the neighborhood mom and pop stores, to support the local economy, but Wal-Mart was just a 10 minute bus ride and cost only cents to travel. In the neighborhood stores, however, we couldn't pass up the fresh squeezed orange and carrot juice or the fresh meat, cut to my specifications, with a little fajita advice from two Mexican women.

I always felt safe in Ajijic. People were out at night, sitting on the steps, talking while the boys played futbol (soccer) in the streets. It was not dangerous. On the contrary, people always smiled and spoke to me.

The beauty of the Mexican people, the friendliness of the local and expat communities, the breathtaking views from the upper mirador, the comfort of Casa Elena both indoor and out and the relaxing swims in the pool all made for a perfect vacation in Ajijic.

Had a wonderful one month stay at Scott & Aileen's casa last October-November.

The property was well appointed and beautifully decorated. The Mexican neighbors were very gracious, friendly, attentive, and protective. I loved the location and my daily walks on the malecon to the plaza. The mirador offers fantastic vistas. Their property manager Miguel was always immediately available to help with any needs, travel, and local questions. You will enjoy a stay at this place. The owners are really nice people.
