winter wonderland

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I could not have been more comfortable in this particularly spacious house with gorgeous views of the mountains and Elkhorn Golf Course. It felt very private and the vistas made one feel as if the property was extensive and one's own. Yet, it was perfectly situated and an easy trip into town (Ketchum/Sun Valley) with added accessibility to Hailey's restaurants, as well. The interiors were furnished with great flair, the kitchen extremely inviting and well stocked, the bedrooms especially comfortable with ample adjoining bathrooms, all perfectly suited for a family and entertaining. We had a wonderful time. The house manager was charming and helpful; an added bonus. We will definitely return!

Repeat guests, can't get enough.

We loved Sun Valley & this rental property so much at Christmas time that we returned in February for a week of downhill & cross country skiing. It was just as special the 2nd time around! Waking up in this sun filled house with walls of window was magical. The mountain views both close up & distant are fantastic. The house offers a comfortable floor plan for family & friends to gather or for entertaining- with spacious living & dining rooms off the over sized entry-mud room area. Fireplaces in living room & master. Media room & work station area to set up your laptops. Large, bright "cooks kitchen" is well equipped & features a family style breakfast table in a cozy nook. Luxurious master suite & lovely guest suite on 2nd floor plus 2 connecting bedrooms on the ground level for kids or in-laws. Best location for all activities-bike trail right at driveway's end-perfect for sunny winter walks. Ski area & cross country trails 5 min away. Easy to get to both Sun Valley & Ketchum for shopping, restaurants & skating in the classic outdoor rink of old Sun Valley days. This place just oozes charm. You won't be disappointed.

Christmas in Sun Valley

  • 5 of 5

We arrived with my wife's parents and our three children on a sun-filled Saturday prior to Christmas. Floor plan was ideal, with the adults upstairs in the two master suites and the children downstairs in a fairy tale like setting. The eat-in kitchen, dining room and living room on the main floor are beautifully appointed. A gourmet chief must live here and we had such fun preparing meals together. The Home Cinema and office, off the living room, were just what we needed to keep everyone productive and entertained. And the vast collection of puzzles and games in front of the roaring fire provided for cherished family time. Loved the location, enveloped by nature yet conveniently close to the charming town and the ski area. My in-laws loved the abundant Nordic trails and we couldn't get enough of the mountain. We hadn't been to Sun Valley in since 1999. What a special place it is in so many ways. We particularly enjoyed being in Elkhorn and the Club Spa in the Village. Great after a long day of skiing and riding. We will be back.

Luxury and convenience with a wilderness view

  • 5 of 5

Sun Valley is our favorite ski resort. Due to the relatively low elevation we do not get the headaches and shortness of breath we get in Colorado. There are lots of sunny days, virtually no lift lines , and reliably good snow conditions thanks to the best snowmaking and grooming we have seen.

There are 30 to 40 miles of groomed cross country trails. We like to take a picnic north of town and have lunch at the foot of the spectacular Boulder Mountains seated next to the Big Wood River. When we want to take a break from cross country skiing inside, we love the good food and rustic setting of the Galena Lodge.

Sun Valley really gets into the Christmas spirit. Wonderful decorations, caroling , the ice shows, and don't miss a sleigh ride to Trail Creek.

We were very happy with the house. The manager and her staff were friendly, efficient, and always happy to show us how everything works and give us tips about the area. The house was spotlessly clean.

The master suite is huge and fabulous . I loved lounging in the oversize tub while enjoying the view out the south facing window. My wife preferred the extra large shower with seat and steam. Great views to the south, west, and north plus the cheery flames of a gas fire.

I enjoyed the pool table in the garage although I had to bundle up in winter. My wife kept a jigsaw puzzle going on a large table by a north facing window. Eight of us were comfortable watching the oversize TV in the media room.

The views are great. I particularly like the view to the west where there are a series of rock escarpments and pillars although the view to the north across the pond of the distant ridges is hard to beat.

We plan to return.
