About Neida Cuellar
Currently living in Guatemala city, I grew up in Chiquimula, a town in the east of the country. I work for a multinational pharmaceutical company.
Neida Cuellar purchased this Apartment in 2015
Why Neida Cuellar chose Antigua Guatemala
Villa Catalina is a longtime dream come through. It is also a joint project together with friends and family to be able to enjoy a cozy place located in one of the most beautiful colonial cities in the world. But also a strong desire to share it with visitors and special guests from all over the world.
What makes this Apartment unique
When I first saw Villa Catalina caught my attention because it is a well-designed and spacious villa located in a beautiful surroundings with delicate accents from colonial times. The villa allows for the combination of modern-day appliances and design placed in a more rustic overall setting. The exterior walls of the villa are painted in the typical brick-color orange. The special feature is the small private backyard with terrace which immediately blew me away.

Comfortable and all you need
We had everything we needed and wanted in this place for two nights. Our first two nights in Guatemala were here and we were totally comfortable as three adult women. There was a smallish but perfectly acquainted patio for enjoying the weather. Two bedrooms, the downstairs more than adequate for two people. Beautiful bathrooms, ample kitchen, couches. Be warned you need to buy water for drinking and cannot flush toilet paper but that goes for all of the country. Also we never found the "shuttle" to be available. You should wear closed toed shoes if you plan to walk into the town. It's a little bumpy and not well lit but easy enough for us. Headlights or iPhone flashlights recommended. Note the wifi info is not correct in the binder but available through the host. We found Uber to be handy but unreliable. Know where you are via google maps for directing drivers.
Overall, we found this location to be very comfortable, super clean, in a great location, and safe for women. Thank you for your responsiveness and attentiveness.
A tranquil setting in Antigua
My family and I had a wonderful experience. We are a family of 5 with 3 small children so we felt very safe here. The guards at the door were very nice but we knew they were not letting anyone else in that didn't belong there. The pool was great for the kids, especially in the evenings since it is heated. We had laundry facilities within our townhouse which was extremely helpful. Their is a shuttle to take you to the plaza or anywhere else you instruct the driver to go in Antigua. We walked most of the time but the shuttle was very convenient since the townhouse is just right outside all the hustle and bustle. Thank you for a great experience.
Clean, comfortable and well equipped for cooking and dining. Complimentary shuttle around town.
We really enjoyed staying for two months in Villa Catalina, part of the modern Villa Oratava complex just outside of the main town. Walked into and around town or got the complimentary shuttle to the central plaza, market and various restaurants. Antigua is a unique city with interesting 16th. century buildings which are under strict construction guidelines. They are distinctly Mediterranean with central courtyards. These have Hotels, hostels, stores and restaurants tucked in. You can enter a store only to find a courtyard with a coffee shop, a bar , a restaurant and an hotel. The city is a great hub for touring with numerous agents arranging travel within Guatamala as well as neighbouring countries. The mostly Mayan street vendors sell with a smile instead of the aggression shown in many other tourist countries. The Mayan handcrafts can be world class quality. Even the average tourist offerings are crafted locally instead of the usual Asian manufactured souvenirs found through the world.
It was a pleasure have you as a guest
Thank you very much
A lovely home in a charming Spanish villa within walking distance to town!
A lovely home in a charming Spanish villa within walking distance to town!
Everything turned out to be better than we expected: the tastefully decorated house with the convenience of washing machine and dryer in the terrace; the friendly staff in the villa and a bonus for me to swim in the heated pool; and the convenience of the shuttle that serves on demand to take us to and from town. What's more, Nellie was very responsive in communicating with me before and during our stay and she called and checked if we had a good time as we were about to leave. I could tell she is a very warm and caring hostess.
I would definitely come back next time when I visit Antigua.
Excellent property and location
We stayed here March 9 for 3 nights. Definitely not long enough! This property is beautiful, well maintained and the owner is delightful.
We're hoping to visit Antigua, Guatemala next year and we will be staying here.
One thing important to note is that it is not suitable for mobility challenged people.
3 Weeks in Antigua
My husband and I stayed in this modern 2 bed/2 bath townhouse for three weeks. The house was spacious with a fully-equipped kitchen so that you could cook if you wanted--perfect for longer stays where you may get tired of eating out. We used the upstairs loft which was a cozy retreat from the rest of the house (note it is an open space so you would hear noise from someone in the living room/dining room area below). The bathroom was perfect with a nice tiled shower and wall nook for storing toiletries. The beds were very comfortable.
The grounds of the property are well maintained. It has a pool as well, however, we did not try it out. The walk to central park in Antigua is approximately 15 minutes, but there is a free shuttle if you prefer not to walk. The shuttle was very efficient. There is laundry on site that can be used (standard washing machine/dryer) for a small fee. I enjoyed walking to the central park each morning and being able to see the Volcano Fuego in the distance. It was pretty active when we were there. The staff of the gated community were friendly and helpful. The owner checked in on us multiple times to make sure we had everything we needed and always responded quickly to any concerns/requests.
I cannot recommend this housing option highly enough. I loved it and it helped to make our time in Antigua memorable. My only note of caution would be for someone with limited mobility. After entering the gated community you need to walk along cobblestones to the unit (the walk includes several steep inclines). The community has a golf cart that most likely could accommodate you by driving you to the house, but I would inquire about this when you speak to the owner.
