After too many days in the Florida heat, we found a perfect place to escape – the Smokey Mountains! For two years, we searched the many beautiful areas outside of Asheville, and eventually came upon the perfect place in Lake Lure.
Donna Cowdrey purchased this cabin in 2015
We wanted a place that was quiet and secluded, yet not too far from town. While we love the water, we wanted a place where we wouldn’t hear boat motors all summer, or be surrounded by people. Admittedly, one of the things we thought we wanted was a mountain home with a mountain view. However, as we soon discovered, most of those cabins are either difficult to get to, have a dangerously steep and small yards, or both. Most of all, we wanted a place where we could enjoy the outdoors, from a cup of morning coffee in the Adirondack chairs, to a glass of wine by the fire pit. We found what we were looking for and more at the Bear Hugs Cabin – comfortable, spacious, safe, and surrounded by nature yet still close to civilization.
Wonderfully decorated; spotlessly clean; extremely well-stocked. Our family of four, with a little guy, had a wonderful winter stay at Bear Hugs while visiting The Biltmore Estate. No question about it...we will keep Bear Hugs on our return list. The Biltmore at Christmas was a treat; but we equally enjoyed the low-keyed atmosphere of Lake Lure and Chimney Rock, and the comfortable, hospitable Bear Hugs Cabin. The weather was cold but with Bear Hugs that was not a problem...we still managed to enjoy the front porch rockers; grilling on the back deck and sitting around the outdoor blazing fire pit. We even managed to work in some Cub Scout accomplishments. Great family time. Great Cabin...HIGHLY Recommended but we will hope to beat you back to it :)
Had a wonderful 3 day holiday at the Bear Hugs Cabin. Immaculate, well stocked with all the cooking supplies you would need. We enjoyed the outdoor firepit, the comfy beds, the information about the area that is provided. There were numerous "nice touches" that were very inviting.
Perfect. Couldn't have been better.
We had an absolutely wonderful week at Bear Hugs Cabin! The property was easy to find, beautiful, and clean. Easy drives to nearby attractions such as zip-lining, hiking, national forests/parks, gem mining, and horseback riding. We relaxed on the front patio for morning coffee time and the outdoor fire pit and grill were awesome for evening fun! The nearby grocery had a huge selection. Nearby restaurants were very good if you don't want to cook.
This was an absolutely wonderful vacation experience - we would love to come back and do it all over again!
A little distant from things we wanted to do but very peaceful. We really enjoyed our stay!!
We had a great week staying at Bear Hugs. The neighborhood is quaint with its own pond that you can swim and fish in. The cabin is cozy and it was a nice plus to have 2 master suites since we were traveling with another couple. We also enjoyed the fact that there was access to Wi-Fi and Netflix. We felt at home and would definitely rent there again.
