Overview

About the property

Cottage, 1 Bedroom + Loft, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

Famous artists and photographers have lived here, like Kosti Ruohomaa in the 1950 s. This beautiful studio is located on the upper floor of the Barn at the Old Community House in Rockport, one of the few original homes left in the Rockport Village. Only a 5-7 min walk to the Village and the Rockport Harbor Bridge filmed in the movies ' A Seal called Andre', or 'Man without a Face'. Maine Media Workshops, The Opera House and the Bay Chamber Concerts are around the corner. A 10 min ride to The Center for Furniture Craftsmanship, to Camden and the Camden Hills National Park. A great 10 min walk to the Curtis Children's Chapel where many couples get married every summer. 15 min ride to Rockland , to the Samoset Resort and to the ferries for all Maine Islands and Nova Scotia. 2 1/2 hrs ride to Acadia National Park and to Bar Harbor.

Beautiful 4 tier granite dock, large float and mooring available on the property w direct harbor access. These are optional and negotiated separately.

The Studio has a special feel to it. Very unique, surrounded by tall pine trees and blue sky, with superb harbor views. 400 sq feet of floor space, covered with white berber carpets and original pine boards from 1880.A large balcony overlooking the harbor. Lots of natural light coming through the large windows and italian veranda style doors, skylights, the combination of white walls-pine boards ceiling-rustic furniture -nice linens give this space the feeling of a chalet/loft in Maine country style. The room is equipped with everything one needs for a comfortable, romantic, restful vacation. The view is amazing. One can see the activities of the harbor, the jumps of the seals, the flying of the seagulls or the beauty of the garden and lawn surrounded by majestic pines and oaks. The sunsets are spectacular, the colors are unforgetable... just the place to be, to write, relax, escape from it all. Access stairs to the Studio/balcony are on the side of the house, about 16 steps with handrail and rest area.

About Elena

We have a deep connection with the house and the position where it is situated. We have old friends in the area, summer residents such as ourselves with ties to the local arts/music scene. We maintain the property ourselves and with the help of few local trusted people.

We are personally very involved. We would like to have other people such as friends and visitors enjoy the house as much as we do. We offer comfortable rustic setting with original Maine feel. We are among the few rental properties on the block. Therefore we also try to protect guests' and neighbors' privacy and we maintain a 'do it yourselves' system.. less commercial and more personal.

Elena purchased this cottage in 1979

Why Elena chose Mid-Coast & Islands

Our ties with the local artists' community date from over 50 yrs ago.We like to maintain these relationships and the memories with the house.

What makes this cottage unique

Beautiful nature, silence, song of birds, sound of water, great light and colors, great air.

Great Views and Location

  • 3 of 5

Great view from deck and lawn. Location is great also. However, studio is small and too crowded with stuff for my taste. Could also use a thorough cleaning.

Beautiful setting, clean, well equipped, comfortable studio apartment.

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful, well-cared for historic property in a quiet neighborhood. Close to walking trails and easy driving to Camden and Rockland. Minor in the big picture but smoke detector battery died at 3 a.m. and we had to deal with beeping detector. Recommend changing all batteries yearly.

Perfect spot near Lockport Harbor

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at the studio, this is our second time staying here. It is equipped with everything you might need, but really all you need is to sit on that porch and watch the lobster fishermen coming and going, and enjoying the beauty and relaxation that Rockport has to offer. We like that it is close to Camden and Rockland, but is not too busy of a town. We loved our morning walks around the town, and sitting on the porch star gazing at night. Looking forward to next year's visit already! Thanks Elena.

Perfect setting

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time here, so relaxing, quiet, peaceful. We stayed in one half of the house, which is surrounded by beautiful flowerbeds with giant peonies and gorgeous grounds, including a large lawn sloping down to the water. Just a perfect location! It was so nice to sit down by the harbor and watch the boats. The house is meticulously maintained with lots of period detail. A handsome, giant antique woodstove is a centerpiece of the kitchen, and beautiful built-in cupboards surround part of a dining nook with views of the harbor. Bedrooms upstairs are very comfortable and look out over the ocean. It was great to wake up with the sunlight coming in, hear the birds singing, and feel the ocean breeze! We also enjoyed a short hike, through a wooded area just north of the house and found a trail that comes out on the rocks overlooking the ocean.

We loved our time here—great views of the bay, right on the harbor with a small beach, beautiful setting.
