About Kalama O
My family and I moved to Waimānalo in 2009, after having loved it for many years. This is truly where the country meets the ocean. The Beachlots community (as it is known locally) is a wonderful neighborhood set right on the most exquisite beach and nestled right into the majestic Ko'olau Mountains. We love to share the rich culture and Aloha spirit of Hawaii with our guests.
Why Kalama O chose Waimanalo Beach
This lovely property is beautiful, inviting and comfortable. Lots of windows and sliding doors let the cool ocean breezes right inside. You can hear the waves crashing while you lie in bed. The rooms are spacious, furniture comfortable and excellent quality, the beds are comfy and kitchen open and easy to use. In less than 1 minute your toes are in the sand for whatever beach adventure you wish. The property is fenced and gated and has a lovely yard filled with tropical fruit and flowers.
What makes this House unique
My youngest son was 11 when we moved here, each time we stepped onto the beach he would exclaim, "Its just like a picture!" Even the drive home from Costco (15- 20 minutes) takes my breath away every time I round the corner by the Makapu'u lighthouse and see the blues and greens of Waimānalo Bay. In addition to the physical beauty, the rich, spiritually connected, culture of Hawaii is a treasure and blessing to all who come to be enveloped in it.

Beautiful Country Side
This place had a great location and was right in the heart of the countryside of OAHU. The beach access was awesome. This is not the place to take young kids. There is no Air Conditioning in the house and it was 85 degrees at night which made it really hard to relax. The beach is really clean but the waves on this side of the island are too big for the littles. Other than the A/C being a big problem the place was great.
Perfect Quiet location steps to the beach
The perfect quiet getaway. We enjoyed spending time in the front yard when we weren't at the beach. Great communication and easy checkin/checkout. We used the kitchen a good deal. This is an easy house to feel right at home. Would definetely stay there again.
Beautiful home and location!
We really enjoyed our stay in Waimanalo. The home is beautiful with a great location. 30 second walk to a beautiful beach that was never crowded. It was an easy drive to sightseeing and dining on the Windward side and points beyond. Karin was a great source of information and recommendations. Don't miss the breathtaking sunrises!
Our stay was worth every penny!
*The Good: this was away from the hoopla of Waikiki, pedestrians & traffic noise. Open-floor concept- wonderful size kitchen to accommodate all of us (no one was left out). Gated car entry- the home was nice & private.
*The Not-So-Great: one wall on the front room doesn't touch the ceiling amplified sound. If you're in the room, you hear everything (vice versa). It's still a beautiful room- just don't put babies in there.
*The Excellent: Everything. The sunrises, ocean breeze, away from tourism, beautiful (well-manicured) home, washer/dryer, private lot, outdoor shower, walking distance to the beach.
//Fyi- there ARE mosquito's- use the OFF! and citronella candles (easily remedied by those paying-it-forward. there ARE jellyfish- use white vinegar for stings.
**Lastly- Karin (property manager) & her crew were fantastic- filled with Aloha. I've rented thru VRBO for over 15 yrs- Karin is the best! I hope to rent through her again!
Lovely setting for a Hawaiian week for six adults
Six of us, all adults, visited for a week in mid April and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house was airy and cool, a bit quirky in places, but totally wonderful. The master bedroom was terrific and the other two were fine. The beds and bedding were comfortable and storage was more than adequate for our group. The only drawback to the bedrooms is that the walls are open at the ceiling level and not soundproof. The common areas are connected and lovely with a large well-equipped kitchen, dining area for six, and family room area. The only concern we had with the house was not being able to securely lock one of the the sliding doors and I believe the owner is addressing this issue. Outside there is a wrap-around patio, a gorgeous fenced yard, and a covered carport with an outside shower, clothing line, washer and dryer. There are lawn chairs, boogie boards, and other beach toys stacked neatly on the side of the carport. The location is very close to the beach, state park, and lifeguard. Shopping is minutes away and the airport and attractions in Honolulu were 30 to 40 minutes away. The owner, Karin, was available, responsive, and helpful. She even texted us during a thunderstorm and made sure we felt safe. We would gladly stay in this house again.
The home is great and did well accommodate our family of 5 with 3 kids.
The beach is 1 min walking distance, very quiet, perfect for body boarding (body boards were kindly provided by Karin) with shallow water on a long distance, perfect for kids.
Do not hesitate!
Waimānalo is a quiet country beach town, yet only 30 minutes from Waikiki. You can enjoy a wide range of water sports right here in Waimānalo Bay - swimming, snorkeling, boogie boarding, surfing, kayaking and stand up paddle boarding. When the wind is right, there is windsurfing and kite boarding too! It's always a great beach for a walk (or jog) and beach combing - 5 miles of white sand to enjoy.
These are just a few of the reasons "Dr Beach" named Waimānalo Beach # 1.
