Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

Overview

About the property

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

'Journey's End' is truly a one of kind cottage/bungalow that offers a traditional/quaint vacation experience while providing 'state of the art' conveniences to the guests.

It is located at the very end of a well maintained access road in a very secluded and private section of Hansen Harbor. 'Journey's End' is also conveniently situated smack in the heart of the NYS Wine Belt. Upon your arrival, you will immediately be struck by the the magnificent panoramic view of Seneca Lake at it's widest point.

The cottage has three bedrooms and two full baths, a full kitchen with breakfast bar and a combined living and dining area all of which were constructed to take full advantage of the spectacular lake view. Each of the front bedrooms provide spectacular views of the lake while the rear bedroom looks out into a raised flower garden and wooded ravine.

Just a mere five steps down to the beach and your ready to swim, sunbathe, fish, kayak, you name it! This property boasts 90 feet of some of the most level and pristine beach frontage in the area. Perfect for launching one of the properties kayaks, rowboat or paddle boat. Ideal for family's with small children.

At night... bonfires on the beach! A traditional beach fire pit at waters edge, great for roasting marshmallows, telling ghost stories or just enjoying a romantic evening by the water.

Perhaps beach activities aren't your cup of tea. Well then... you can pack up your radio and suntan lotion and take a stroll out to the end of the 100 foot aluminum dock. Now here... you will truly experience a breathtaking view and be able to totally relax surrounded by the serenity and calm of the wind, sun and water. Is that glorious sunshine making things a little warm? Take a dive off the dock (purposely constructed low to the water) for a refreshing dip in the crystal clear water, where the water depth is a comfortable five foot (average seasonal depth at the end of the dock is approximately five feet, but can vary depending on amount of rainfall during the rental season).

Or Maybe you just wanna kickback in one of the eucalyptus Adirondack chairs under the shade of the covered deck for an afternoon snooze. Or catch up on a good book, while enjoying a glass of one of the area's world famous wines produced, literally, just down the road.

Whatever your preference, we are confident that 'Journey's End' will provide you with a most enjoyable and memorable vacation experience!

Wonderful Gem!

  • 5 of 5

We prefer to rent homes/condos rather than stay in hotels while traveling so we're quite experienced with the process, properties, and owners. So far, this home and owners are the best we've ever encountered. The home and grounds are the cleanest and most well-maintained and the owners continuously strive to improve it. We have rented this location three times and are looking forward to many more stays in the future. Highly recommended!

Simply Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

We (3 couples) stayed here for the first two nights our motorcycle tour of parts of the US and Canada. It was a jaw-dropping moment when we arrived - just spectacular - and a really great place to Stay. Ed was really helpful throughout the booking and the stay, and being able to get out on the lake in row boats and kayaks, followed by BBQs at the water's edge topped it off. We wish we'd had longer to stay.

Journey's End is the Best!

  • 5 of 5

Just priceless!! The cottage was very comfortable, and the lake was amazing. We woke up to views steps from Seneca Lake’s edge that only our eyes could capture. It was a beautiful October weekend with above average temperatures and that just enhanced our stay. Cozy, clean, and well stocked for us to unwind; Bud and Roseann went out of their way to make us feel at home. Journey's End exceeded our expectations! If you are looking for a quiet, beautiful cottage in the Finger Lakes, I highly recommend Journey’s End.

Beautiful property

  • 3 of 5

We stayed at Journey's End for a week and the cottage was beautiful and very clean. We loved the lake, however, due to the water being low, there was a thick mass of sludge along the beach area so we were not able to have our 2 year old grandson enjoy the beach at all nor were we able to have a fire in the fire pit because the smell from the sludge was pretty bad. Also it is advertised as being remote, but we were surprised to see that it was not remote at all. There was a cottage on each side of us and the parking was difficult because the one neighbor had 3 cars in at their place all the times we were there which made it hard for us to get in and out. Also I don't think it is ideal for small children because there is not a grass area at all for playing outside and there are numerous steps down to the decks and the beach area. Our grandson did enjoy feeding the ducks each day though and loved swimming in the lake (well floating with his floaties on). I will say that the sunsets and the sunrises were spectacular and the owners put a lot of work into the decks and outside of the cottage. Ed was also great to deal with.

Owner's Response: So Sorry to the Shaffer's for the condition of the beach which was due to the continuous drought in the Fingerlakes area over the past 5 months. This caused low lake levels resulting in the rotting algae on the beach. Unfortunately, we have no control over the weather. As far as the remoteness of the property... we never advertised it as being remote. we adverstised it as being in a "private and secluded section of Hansen Harbor" as it is the last cottage at the end of the road, thus there is no drive by traffic. We also advertise that there are five steps down to the beach. As far as having a grassy area for children.....well...that is true, but again, we never advertised it has having a grassy area for children. I am truly sorry that the Shaffer's did not have the experience that they were expecting, but we try to be as accurate in our desciption of the property as we can. As far as the drought causing the algae blooms on the beach I can not recall a situation like that in the almost 20 years since we owned the property. All in All, we do agree with Kim when she titled her review, "Beautiful Property". Incidentally, this link describes the severity of the drought in this area this past year... http://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/news/2016/07/14/severe-drought-sets-in/87072786/

Amazing family vacation

  • 5 of 5

I rarely do reviews, but I had such an amazing time I felt compelled to share. This cottage is small but very functional and enough space for 6 people. We had 4 adults and 2 children. Everything within the cottage is updated and thoughtfully placed. We were comfortable inside the cottage, but almost any time not sleeping or exploring the area was spent outdoors in the spacious deck, fire-pit by the water, or on the dock. Kayaks, paddle boat and row boats were available for use - all in excellent shape.

We rented pontoon boats few of the days from Roy's Marina and were able to bring it down to the dock (be aware, it does take a decent amount of time to get it here though) for the day.

Lake is gorgeous and the views from the deck/cottage/dock are priceless.

Ed is a hands-on and helpful host with excellent communication before/during/after the trip.

My favorite winery (not really a vineyard) was Domaine Leseurre - on Keuka lake, about 30min drive. A rather new place but I think it will become BIG. Fox Run had some good value-wines too.
