Relaxing, Clean, Unique getaway that's not too far away!

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here for a bachelorette party weekend on the 4th of July. The first thing I noticed upon entering the villa was it was SO CLEAN. Out in the middle of nowhere, you often run into dilapidated conditions or lots of bugs, but this was pristine. The house has so many amenities- games, videos, digital cable, AC, and of course the pool and hot tub, jacuzzi tub in the main room, a sweet game table for cards or board games, hammock, and patio with grill. Three beds upstairs can easily accomodate two people each, but the couches are cozy as well if you wanted to spread out.

The kitchen was stocked with essentials like flour, condiments, and all the cooking and eating utensils you could ask for. The dishwasher was a bonus as was the extra fridge for provisions. The villa is a ten minute drive from a Krogers and a few minutes from a bunch of wineries. The location is remote- like gravel road remote- so we didn't venture out after dark. We didn't need to though! We had everything we needed. It was also a great place to see some wildlife- fence lizards, birds of all kinds, even a farm cat made an appearance. We saw wild turkey and deer on the way in. The remote location allows for quiet evenings- even on the 4th of July! And being able to relax undisturbed was truly a treat.

This is in the woods-ish so do bring some bug spray or a bug preventative of some sort as the sweat bees were out and happy to partake in pool time festivities. And there is no wifi- our phones with ATT and Verizon worked out there but the other carriers did not.

Oh and there are pool toys and lawn games in the shed. The villa is an hour from Paducha and easy access to a few highways, so even though it's remote, it's not crazy remote.

My friends and I had so much fun, we really hope to return again and have another relaxing, laid back weekend.

Most of all, the character and the integrity of the owner must be acknowledged. We booked this property two years in advance knowing that the eclipse was coming and the owner knew this would be a big event. This property was less than one mile from the maximum point and within 0.1 seconds of maximum total obscuration. When other properties raised their rates to $9,000 and above, this owner respected the normal price.

The accommodation is a quirky mix of designer decorator touches with country rustic. Overall it is a delightful experience. One should bring a WiFi hot spot and an extension cord. Lots of outlets, just not all close to comfortable lounging.

Very tranquil setting

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed here for 2 nights and enjoyed a very relaxing time. There is a lot of character in this home and you can tell the owner took great pride in designing it. I enjoyed taking a few hours and reading on the hammock.

My only criticism is the bathroom situation. There is limited privacy in both bathrooms. In the master bedroom, the bathroom is out in the open, with a partial swinging door separating the toilet from the bed. There is no shower in the master suite. In the guest bathroom on the second floor, the wall separating the bathroom and bedroom does not extend all the way up. A person can easily look into the bathroom from the bedroom. We did not downgrade the rating because this is a personal preference; however, we thought it was a bit unusual.

This house sits a couple of miles from the Blue Sky Winery and a short 10 minute drive to either Anna or Carbondale. The owners have done a fabulous job of making sure their guests are comfortable and well taken care of. We could not have asked for a more central meeting place for SIUC graduation. There was plenty of room for our family and loved the open concept of the dining room and kitchen. Couples that we were traveling with for graduation that stayed in hotels are making arrangements to come here for vacation and visit the wineries of Southern Illinois. We will definately be coming back!

Great Bachelorette Weekend Getaway!

  • 4 of 5

We had a great time at Villa de Bertolino! We spent a long weekend here for a bachelorette party/getaway. There were great vineyards close by, the home was perfect for a group of girlfriends, and the weather was perfect so that we could enjoy the hot tub and patio area. We want to come back when the pool is open! Dan was wonderful answering all of our questions and giving us great recommendations. We look forward to a return trip.

Great location to enjoy nature and friends!

  • 5 of 5

Villa de Bertolini was a great getaway. We enjoyed wine, yoga and great fellowship with friends. The house was clean, and quiet. Views spectacular. Close to local wine trail and Giant City State Park for hiking. A great getaway for family, friends, or just to disconnect from your regular routine.
