Charming three bedroom cottage in private cottage area. Perfect for families, girls weekends and more.
Full kitchen, bathroom, and separate sleeping areas (1 Queen, 1 Double, and 1 bunkbeds)
Q. How many people can stay in the cottage:
A. You can comfortably fit 6 adults into the cottage. If you are intending to have more people stay, please let me know ahead of time.
Q. Can we set up a tent or two in the yard?
A. Absolutely. Personally I prefer to sleep inside on the bed, but it’s your vacation – go wild!
Q. Is the water safe for drinking?
A. Yes. We recently invested in a Reverse Osmosis system to improve on water taste as well.
Q. How far are you from the beach?
A. If I could throw a stone that far, I would say a stones throw – since I can’t throw a stone that far: about a two minute walk (400ish yards)
Q. Are linens provided?
A. Yes we can provide them on request and for a small fee. This includes towels, sheets, blankets and cleaning towels. Should you opt out of having linens provided - please ensure to bring all of the above.
Q. Is there a washer/dryer?
A. No. There is a laundromat in town.
Q. Is there a dishwasher?
A. Sadly, no. Hone your inner pioneer and enjoy the process of washing by hand – hey it will be an educational experience for the kids.
Q. Is there a BBQ?
A. Yes, there is a BBQ and an exchange tank – if you happen to run out of propane, simply exchange it at the gas station and retain your receipt. You will be reimbursed as propane is included in the rental.
Q. Is there a grocery store nearby?
A. There are two (No Frills & Sobey’s) as well as 2 pharmacies, an LCBO, and a Beerstore.
Q. Do I have to bring condiments?
A. Do you like your hamburger plain? Some condiments are left on site, and if you finish a bottle, please replace it for the next guests. If you prefer to bring and use your own, that is fine as well!
Q. Can I have a campfire outside?
A. Yes, please practice campfire safety, but certainly, enjoy your outdoor campfire. Logs are available for outdoor burning. Please note I said logs. The cedar chairs are not available for outdoor burning. They were a wedding gift.
Q. Can I use cedar logs inside?
A. Due to sap, I prefer that you burn hardwood inside. There is a small amount available for your use.
Q. Is there internet or a phone?
A. If you can work, it’s not really a vacation, is it? There is no internet or landline phone available. Bell gets great service, Rogers is spotty.
Q. Are there things to do in Kincardine?
A. Absolutely. Some details will be left for you with restaurant/activity suggestions at the cottage.
Q. Is there anything to do at the cottage in case of rain?
A. Yes! We tried thumb wrestling and staring contest - but realized that wouldn't entertain us for more than five minutes. We have a variety of board games, crafts, puzzles, DVD & VHS movies, and a small tv.

Why Virginia Ridley chose Kincardine
This property is great for an economical getaway either with friends or with the kids. We are fairly relaxed owners, and hope that you enjoy our cottage as much as we do. There is so much nearby that you have the best of both worlds - a cottage getaway and only minutes from town.

Comfy and relaxing
We had a fantastic vacation at 4 Verna Lane. Was nice and quiet yet really close to town. The fridge was a bit small & The BBQ is in need of new grills. The yard is a great size and lots of room for the kids to roam around and is pretty close to the beach. They loved the trampoline and the tree house. The bugs were at a minimum. The cottage itself is quite comfortable yet clean and tidy. The movie selection was vast. The new flooring was super easy to keep swept up. We would book it again!
We're glad you enjoyed your stay!
We would welcome you back anytime.
Great cottage on a beautiful lake
Our stay at the cottage was awesome; it has the comfort of home but rustic enough to be able to disconnect and enjoy a restful and relaxing getaway. Having a good selection of games and movies was great entertainment in the evening and for a rainy day. Fresh clean bedding and blankets were provided and the cottage was well stocked with ameneties that you would probably pack yourself...very thoughful of the owners to have such things as band aids , Q-tips etc on hand. Loving our BBQ's we were a bit disappointed in the condition (very rusty grill) and opted not to use it. Our 2 dogs were welcome which was so appreciated knowing that most cottage owners do not allow pets, the short walk to the beach was nice and there were no issues having the doggies off leash and in the water. The outdoor hand shower on the front deck is an absolute brilliant idea!!! All in all our stay was amazing and we would go back and stay longer in a minute:):)
Thank you Virginia for sharing your wonderful cottage.
We are glad you enjoyed yourself! I will get that grill figured out for next year - not sure how it rusted so fast (was new last season!)
WE would welcome you back anytime.
Not worth the price
The place was not great honestly and certainly not worth the money. There were ants everywhere when we were there and the place was not clean (ashes and dust). When we drove up to the place the grass was long and toys strewn about. We did enjoy the games and movie selection on the rainy day but left early in the end because it was not what we expected. Small details like no lid on the garbage and no instructions for the hot water tank were irritating.
I'm sorry that you did not enjoy your stay Laura. The wood stove does cause ash and dust, and it could have been taken care of better.
Yes, the grass was long - our regular maintenance person starts in June, and cuts weekly, we didn't realize how long it had gotten since our last trip up there.
I will make sure that we have instructions on where the water heater switch is for future renters. I appreciate your feedback.
This is an amazing property, I would recommend this to anyone!
Virginia is very easy to work with. She responded very timely and was really good about answering questions.
The yard is very large and contains parking for 6 comfortably. There is more than enough room for multiple tents. There is an awesome picnic table and large area for sitting around the campfire.
The cottage it self is very homey and comforting. 3 decent sized bedrooms one with bunk beds. I very nice shower and a complete kitchen. Storage space for food is slightly lacking but not really a problem. There is a 3/4 sized fridge and freezer combo that was a little small for us but still did the trick great. Book and movie collection was really nice to have. Puzzles and games were included, one puzzle was missing a piece which sucked for us.
The beach is realy close just a 2 min walk to the beach, unfortunately the water was really high this year (all of huron is) so there wasnt a lot of beach and the first 20ft were rocks.
Overall this place is really really good. It has everything you need to have a good vacation.
Me and my group (7) plus a few extras during the day really enjoyed our stay and may be back next year!
Great, quiet vacation spot
We really enjoyed our stay. Virginia was awesome to deal with leading up to and planning our getaway. I was so impressed with her pdf of instructions and details - even where to eat, where to find things stored in the cottage, etc. When we arrived at the cottage it was a rainy day and cool out so we were so happy to be able to build a fire in the lovely wood stove. It heated up the whole place nicely (the walls do not go all the way to the plank ceiling at the cottage - so the heat spread nicely...as does sound! :) ). We were able to have several friends and family members pop by for a night here and there during our week at the cottage and Virginia was really flexible on this, even letting my brother pitch a tent in the yard. The cottage itself has been updated partially - new flooring and doors and that lovely stove - and they plan to continue the updates gradually from what I understand. The mattress we slept on was amazingly comfortable - not like some of the ones you find in other cottages - and our daughter was tickled with the cozy bunkbeds and kid-friendly movies, books and games. The beach was very wavy the first day we got there and so we ended up driving into Kincardine a number of days to the main beach (just about 5 mins away)...silly us! The beach at the cottage is rocky in places, but if you go down and to the right you'll find a glorious sandy beach. We approached some cottagers there and they were so friendly and assured us our kids could swim with their kids and pointed out where it's sandy versus rock. So just don't discount the beach too quickly - there are sandy portions, you just have to find them (perhaps we're the only idiots who didn't figure this out immediately, but if it saves someone else...). The fridge at the cottage is a little small, but that might have been amplified by the number of guests we had come up with food in coolers! There are lots of local grocery stores, restaurants, shops, LCBO and anything you could need in very short driving distance. The neighbours are quiet and the fellow across the road is very nice and has two friendly dogs. And there was also a trampoline, which the kids really loved. All in all, great value for the money and a wonderful vacation spot! We'll be back!
Will return again!
If you have not been to Kincardine, I would highly recommend it. NO BUGS. I cant tell you how huge this was for me. The cottage was perfect for what we were looking for as we did not spend most of our time inside. The cottage is not the ritz, its a modest place and 300m walk to the beach. And only 5 minutes out of town. It has that remote feel, without the worry. It had a very home-y feel, and reminded me of times when I was growing up. The neighbors were so very friendly.
The yard was great, lots of trees of privacy, and the firepit was a bonus. Again, No BUGS!!! I even checked with the locals...they say there are hardly ever any bugs.
Regarding the owner. Very quick to respond to emails when we had questions.

Additional information about rental rates
Linens are not included with the rental. If I can make arrangements for them to be dropped off and picked up either by myself or someone in my network, I can include them for an extra fee ($30.00). The cottage should be cleaned and ready for the next person before you leave. We check the cottage between renters, should this check result in more than 30 minutes of additional cleaning, we will deduct from the security deposit. We have never had to do this, but reserve the right to should the cottage not be left in a rentable condition.
