Spacious 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom restored house with mountain views

Casa Rosina is a haven of peace and tranquility set in a hamlet only 5 kms from the white village of Periana. The perfect get away from it all location in the mountains of Andalucia. It is one hour's drive from Malaga and located along an easily accessible track. The house is full of character with traditional features including wooden beams and hand made tiled floors. It is stylishly decorated with Moroccan and Spanish textiles and furniture. With its own private pool and BBQ area, the front and back sun terraces offer stunning open views to the mountains, lake Viñuela and Mediterranean sea. The well-made track to the house winds its way through olive groves, assorted fruit trees and wild flowers providing a romantic backdrop to this peaceful, mountain retreat. It is perfect for summer rentals for lazing by the private pool and also in spring and autumn when with more temperate weather offers many opportunities for walks and other sporting activities. The fascinating Moorish cities of Granada, Cordoba and Sevilla are all in easy reach by car. The coast is only a half hour drive with many beaches and coves and small towns to explore.

Children of all ages are welcome! We provide a cot and high chair. The pool is fenced off with a lockable gate to prevent small children from wandering into the pool area unsupervised.

Golf: There are several golf courses along the coast within easy reach of Casa Rosina. Baviera Golf in Torre del Mar is the nearest 18 hole golf club. We can pre book rounds for guests.

About Anne Ritchie

Originally from Scotland we came to live in this lovely part of Spain to have a more peaceful life, to learn a new language and experience the Spanish culture. We love living here and have adopted 4 dogs (or rather they adopted us!) as you can see from our picture above taken outside our house which is only 15 minutes from Casa Rosina.

Why Anne Ritchie chose Alcaucín

We had never been to Spain before a friend told us what a great place Spain is to live. So we came in 2000, fell in love with the Axarquia area and quickly bought our house and the following year bought Casa Rosina to rent out. We love having people from all over Europe come stay in Casa Rosina and we try our best to make their holiday as good as it can possibly be. Casa Rosina is set in such tranquil surroundings of the mountain hamlet and we enjoy meeting everyone who comes to stay. The nearby villages of Periana and Alcaucin are full of great tapas bars and restaurants and friendly Spanish locals who are very gracious in helping us with our Spanish!

What makes this villa unique

Casa Rosina is ideally situated in a small traditional hamlet surrounded by olive groves and fabulous wide open views to the lake and Mediterranean sea.The hillside goats come through the village daily and drink from the village fountain and then wend their way on down the tracks to other hamlets and olive groves. It is truly a place to unwind, read a book by the pool in the shade of the fig tree and get away from the hurly burly of life. When we first saw the house we fell in love with the stable gated front door which leads into the spacious house opening up to rooms on different levels. The winding staircase takes you up to the top floor with the lovely big master bedroom with great views down to the sea.

The large downstairs bedroom opens out into the front terrace - a great place for breakfast or just relaxing and reading a book. The house is large enough so that there is plenty of room for everyone to have their own space.

We sometimes have a few days there ourselves to enjoy the pool and the lovely views!

We would like to say how we enjoyed our stay in Andalucia. Not only is the area beautiful but we also loved the mountain villages and of course Cordoba and Granada. Our trip was made particularly pleasant by staying in Casa Rosina. The house is exactly what we expected, it is so spacious and well arranged. In addition the equipement is complete, nothing failed us and we always found what we needed. Added to this is the quiet place and superb views over Lake Viñuela.   • The very spacious upstairs bathroom (3.3m x 3.1m) by the main bedroom and is fully equipped with large bath and shower attachment, bidet, loo and wash hand basin. Views overlook the swimming pool and mountains beyond. The en-suite shower room (3.5m x 1.8m) is on the lower floor with loo, wash hand basin and shower cubicle.

  • The main bedroom (9.6m x 3.8m) with a king sized bed is the one everyone wants! It runs the length of the house with it's own sitting area. The views from the 3 shuttered window look out to Lake Viñuela and the mountains. There is ample space for a cot. Moroccan hangings and stained glass lantern give a romantic feel to the room with a traditional timber beamed and rattan ceiling. There is a day bed and 2 rocking chairs. The second bedroom (7.8m x 4.0m) is on the lower floor with French doors leading onto the front terrace, an ideal breakfast spot. It also has a relaxed sitting area with a sofa and table. There is one double bed and one single bed, a kitchenette and an en-suite shower room. The third bedroom (3.8m x 3.8 m) with twin beds is on the ground floor of the lounge with views to the lake. The fourth bedroom (3.5m X 3.5m) recently converted from the dining room has a single bed. All the bedrooms are very tastefully furnished and have their own wardrobe and chest of drawers.

Charming, relaxed old farmhouse.

The house is lovely, full of old-world Spanish charm. Visitors should be aware that it is in a tiny hamlet, no amenities within walking distance, and reached from the main road by a mile or so of narrow, rough track. However, if you like that sort of thing (and we do) you’ll love the house and the beautiful views of lake and hills. In August, the pool was much appreciated as was the shady eating and BBQ area under the old fig tree. There are shops available only a very short drive away and a hyper market about 20 minutes away down the main road. Beaches about an hour away and lots of interesting towns and villages to visit. Hosts Anne and David were so helpful, recommending places to visit and even rescuing our luggage after it failed to arrive on the same plane as us!

Just to clarify the nearest beach is at Torre del Mar which is 30 mins drive from Casa Rosina. The beach which we recommended to Andre and her party was El Cañuelo which is past Nerja and is about an hour's drive. Its a fabulous beach, less crowded with 2 excellent chiringuitos ( beach restaurants)

Wonderful setting, private garden, warm and cozy

THis is the second time we have stayed here. It feels like paradise, up in the mountains away from all the hustle and bustle but still near enough to visit some beautiful and busier places if you wish. The house is roomy yet cozy, is wonderfully equipped with anything and everything you could ever want or need. David is always on hand to help with anything, although we have never had any issues. The pool is wonderfully clean and cool. We really cant fault it. You definitely need a car, its about an hour away from Malaga airport. Last time we visited Granada, a couple of hours away and this time we visited Cordoba, but primarily we came here for a get away from it all experience. The only disturbance is the goat herd coming by.

Rural & rustic.

The property was ideal for us, as a family of 5 there was plenty of room for everyone without getting on top of one another. The pool was a lovely welcome after a spot of sunbathing. The sunsets were stunning! At the end of the day, having the lower ensuite bedroom, we'd simply tell the kids we were off to bed, then we would slip out onto the front terrace for a nightcap.

All in all we had a fantastic holiday. Thank you so much Anne & David xx

Anne and David thank you very much for the lovely welcome and lovely time we spent at Casa Rosina The house is just perfect, very well equipped and so spacious, amd the library of book provided is an added bonus. Such a peaceful place it is. Anne has been helpful from day 1 when I emailed her giving me all details and answering all my questions even prior to or after the booking.

We loved spending our breakfast and lunches under the amazing shade provided by the fig tree. And later a dip in the enclosed and not overlooked pool.. The kids loved it..

While we were there we contacted Anne and David regarding an issue and they promptly attended and solved our issue and they were not in the least annoyed or seemed disturbed by it.

The washing machine and dishwasher were really good to have we didn't have to pack in a lot of clothes and not spending time doing dishes Is very welcome when on holiday.

The directions to the house were clear and precise and we didn't find it difficult to get to the property. Although it's Hugh up in the mountains and as Anne recommends Irs best to have a bigger type car .

David comes to clean the pool twice a week and we enjoyed a little chat with him but he is in no way intrusive.

Please take up the offer to book hire car through Anne as it's less hassle . We had an hours wait for our car n car seat from where we booked although I paid for fast track it still took that long. David later mentioned that if we had booked through them it would just be a 5 min wait at airport . The house has 2 booster seats for your use for no extra charge.

We had a great time and we look forward to going again in the future.

A Happy House!

Thank you to Anne and David who were superbly welcoming, helpful and funny. We had a wonderfully relaxing stay at Casa Rosina. It is a very quiet area but if you are looking to chill out, watch stunning sunsets amidst gorgeous mountain scenery, relax beside the sun-trap pool and eat leisurely lunches under the coolness of the house fig tree then this is absolutely the place for you. We hope to return in the very near future.

Superbly equipped, wonderfully peaceful

The directions to the house were second to none and we had no trouble finding the house. It was just like the pictures, very well kept, beautifully clean and superbly well equipped in the kitchen, bedrooms etc. David came up to see us within a few hours of arriving and filled us in on the local supermarkets, places to eat etc., There were 6 adults in the house and we found there was plenty of space not to get under each others feet at all. The pool was wonderful, David cleaned it twice a week and it was cool and fresh. Early mornings on the patio under the fig tree with a cup of tea was one of my favourite times, likewise under the fig tree in the evening with the barbecue going with the family. Only 20 minutes from the coast, with spectacular mountain views we were very impressed with the house and the location. Good places to eat, large supermarkets 20 minutes away we would definitely return. In our party were 4 middle aged adults and 2 young adults, the youngsters visited the water park about 20 minutes away and the coast regularly where the rest of us stayed more local although visited Nerja on the coast which was great for typical holiday visiting and Granada for a day of culture. The house was so relaxing we spent many days just sitting around. A good choice of books to read - we had the best of holidays, many thanks to David and Anne for this,

Casa Rosina is located in one of the most beautiful parts of Andalucia surrounded by mountains, lakes and national parks. Olive and assorted fruit trees cover the hillsides and a multitude of interesting places and historic Moorish cities, sport and recreational facilities are within easy reach. The house is set in a tranquil hamlet ideal for enjoying the peace and quiet and sipping your chilled wine as a herd of goats walk by. Within easy range are tennis courts, mountain biking and horse riding. There are many excellent local tapas bars and restaurants located in the nearby white villages of Alcaucin and Periana. The Moorish town of Alhama de Granada, only a 30 minute drive away with its hot springs, fabulous gorge and excellent tapas bars and restaurants, is not to be missed.The nearest beach Torre del Mar is 30 minutes drive. Here you can find many good bars and restaurants or take a stroll along the sea promenade and pop into a chiringuito for a refreshing drink and tapa. Guests may either laze in the sun on one of many beaches or take part in water sports, sailing, water skiing and jet skiing. There are several pretty, secluded coves near to seaside towns such as Nerja which has retained its Spanish feel. Along the coast there are many golf courses which we can pre-book for guests. The fascinating historic towns of Granada with its stunning Alhambra Palace and Arab quarter, Cordoba with the amazing Mezguita and beautiful Seville are within easy reach of Casa Rosina. If you would like to visit the Alhambra Palace in Granada we highly recommend you book your tickets as far in advance as possible as it is a very popular place to visit all year round. There are many fiestas held in the local villages throughout the year - a great way to experience local customs and colour. We provide a book with details of great places to visit and will give you our recommendations.

Prices include electricity and gas. Bed linen, bath and beach towels, a cool box, welcome bottle of wine and bowl of seasonal local fruits are included. End of stay cleaning is included and for guests staying more than one week, mid stay light cleaning can be arranged at a slight extra cost.
